This is one of those modern songs that really came along and shook country music. It was breath of fresh air to hear something that sounded like classic country and had such a beautiful message. First time I heard this I was in the Navy and we had a radio playing in the hangar bay and this came on. Everyone just listened and was like wow.. That was awesome. Great memories

Jamey Johnson - In Color, when he said "And if it looked like we were scared to death like a couple of kids trying to save each others, you should've seen it in color" he's really meaning by "... in color" you should've seen it for yourself because them pictures don't really express how it was back then.

This song is one of the most genius country songs ever. He is bringing out the difference between how we see things in black + white, meaning in hindsight, as opposed to in real time (in color), when you’re going through it. The anxiety we all feel right now, wondering how bad will it really get, will grandma and grandpa in the nursing home make it through, no photo of any color will ever be able to capture. This is an incredible truth about life and memory, and he put it all into this 5 minute song.

I've seen him several times. Fantastic each time. Last he opened for Lynyrd Skynyrd. As part of his encore he did 4 Walls of Raiford, a song by Skynyrd and he absolutely nailed it. This song definitely reminds me of my grandparents . Grandpa was a WWII Navy veteran of the Pacific war. My dad, aunts and uncle were all depression era kids. He wrote Give it Away both he and George Straight had #1 songs with it. He also did a duet with Allison Krause of the Ray Charles classic Seven Spanish Angels

I'm 45 years old and was blessed by God to have known my great-grandparents on my dad's side.
My great grandfather was born in 1896 and passed away in 1986. My great grandmother was born in 1901 and passed away in 1990. I can vividly remember sitting in their living rooms and listening to them talk about major events in the world. They were there and remembered so much. The loss of the Titanic, hard times and sacrifice during WWI and WWII. They remembered how this nation came together when we finally put a man on the moon. They raised a family during the great depression. They lived through so much and I was able to hear about it first hand.
We used cassette recorders and spent hours protecting their stories. Recently we had them transferred to digital media. Hearing their voices was kind of like this. To someone on the outside you hear a voice, but have no connection to it . . . no memory to set the voice to. I get to see it in color. The yellow flowers in grandma's dress and the red in grandpa's can of pipe tobacco as he lit up to tell us about going to school in a one-room schoolhouse or working on the farm from sunup to well after dark.
Too often people today overlook the elderly and write them off. They don't share in conversations with them, learn from their past and experiences. We're losing history every day.

I grew up when black and white was still standard but color was on the way in. I remember first color tv and Scooby Doo, pics of my Uncle Marty (RIP). I was the oldest and the only one of my generation that has actual memories of that James Dean handsome guy who was the life of parties. I still look at those old pics because how lucky I was to have retained memories of my uncle. Then, the sadness of his car accident that took his life and the fact my dad (his brother) had to be the one to tell their mother he had died. I think about those days growing up in an Indiana town of 2000 people, and all of the crazy 70s parades and small town stuff you see on videos did happen. So when my classmate died my freshman year in a car accident, it all came back in my head...and I got the pictures out again. Trying to find some logic in this life. The sadness in my school of only 200 kids was such a heavy air, it felt suffocating. Some went home. Rest of us who knew her tried fighting back the tears. Her seat in class was empty..and it was heartbreaking...im sorry..my thoughts took me back in my mind. the sadness never goes away, only dulls with time..but triggers happen. This happened 41 years ago and I can still see her beautiful smile sitting in the chair next to me. We still miss you Kristi.

Meaning they the picture only tells part of the story.

One of my favorites. It always reminds me of growing up with my grandparents and great-aunts/uncles. Seeing all the old photo albums and listening to their countless stories... Remember it like it was yesterday.

This is one of my all-time favorite songs. My son and my nephew played the guitar and sang this song for my dad's funeral. It's very fitting because as a family we've spent years doing family history and looking at old photos together. I can rarely get through this song without sobbing.

One of the Outlaw Country singers of today. You cannot go wrong.
He does an amazing Duet with Allison Krause "Seven Spanish Angels", an ode to Willie Nelson and Ray Charles.

I bought this album, and his Black and White album roughly 10 years ago and would listen to it in my truck a lot.
The Black and White album had two discs, and almost every song on the two are sooo good. The song, "I Remember You" probably impacted me most.
Edit: Scrolled through every comment, and I'm the only one who mentioned that song. **sigh** Lol

You should listen to Can't Even Give It Away. Jamey wrote it George Strait recorded it. The best part was he won an award for being the writer and while accepting the award he thanked his ex-wife. You can find him singing it too both are great

This is Grandma from Texas. I watch you almost every day and I just want to say thank you for bringing a ray of sunshine in to my life. It brings me joy watching you kids on CZcams listening to the old songs. Y’all are stars a definitely way more entertaining than any one in Hollywood. I like this song too and the part where he says “you should have seen it in color” means you should have been there or it was real life and we lived it. Don’t worry about the WuHan Virus too much. We are Americans and we will figure it out. Keep praying and trusting. We will get back to work soon enough and hopefully we will have all learned something 😘đŸ‡ș🇾👍. Oh have you listened to Blake Sheltons song I Lived It?

Thanks for doing songs like this , I’m a country boy and these songs really get to me , I lost my dad Jan 2020 and it’s been hard going through all his stuff , black and white photos just get to me . That was his life . 12/10/47 - 1-07-2020 Rodger Dean Hill sr.

You’ve listened to the group called Brooks and Dunn. Well Ronnie Dunn tried solo for a year or two. He has a song called bleed red and coat of living. They are both good songs. And if you have ever watched the Andy Griffith show, you should also listen to Rascal Flatts- Mayberry. The message in this song is amazing.

We didn't have a color TV until I was 7...and we had a whole 4 channels to watch. I was the remote control until I was 12 or 13 because my Dad always made me get up to go change the channel for him. Less than 20 years later I was carrying around a laptop worth about $8,000. Less than 20 years after that many people were walking around with far more computing power in their phone than what that laptop had. The advancement of technology in my lifetime has been nothing short of astonishing...but is nothing compared to what the younger generations will experience.

This has been out for quite a while and I always liked it when it came out, but it didn't blow my mind. For some reason when I saw the performance that he did live, I think for Farm Aid, I lost it. I haven't seen him sing it live where he hasn't shed a tear. It's an absolutely beautiful song and it's a testament to his family and how he was brought up that he would honor his grandparents like this. You definitely have to look up that video, also because he looks like a different person than he used to. He's gotten completely a different persona thing going on. It definitely works for him!
