One of my favorite country songs of all-time. High Cost of Living is an absolute classic as well. He's a tremendous songwriter who unfortunately is suffering from effects of a TBI and hasn't been able to write much at all the last several years but still actively tours.
Just went to his concert and his voice is spot on and has some new songs! If you get the chance, don’t pass it up…. Go see and let Jamie preach to you.
I truly believe that this is one of those very special songs - especially when you see it with the video - that transcends music genres. One doesn't have to be a country fan to appreciate this song. And I'm really glad that you guys decided to check it out. I love your channel, and I wish you two all the best!
This is literally the story of my grandfather's life. He grew up poor on a farm in Tennessee during the Great Depression. He met my Grandmother just before WWII while they both were serving in the Marine Corps. Yes my Grandmother was a Marine back then. My Grandfather fought behind enemy lines and earned the Silver Star. They were married for over 50 years and he loved her until the day he died.
Beautiful story of your grandparents I love to hear the old stories my route my father in 1943 was in World War II and he was shot in the stomach, but his buddy behind him shot the German . so this song always reminding my dad
I’d never thought of the word proud used in the connotation that he used it, it was like an intense, immediate, visceral gut punch hearing it used in that manner. Beautiful.
When I was little any time I was at my mamaws house, I'd pull out all of the photo albums. I did that for years. What I didn't realize until I was older was the amount of joy it brought my mamaw and papaw when I asked questions about the pictures. I could see them going back to the memory. It initiated conversation. My mamaw would ask, "Honey do you remember....?" And then papaw would be off with the stories. Awesome song!
First time hearing!! Will not be the last!! Great story told in song. That generation was the greatest generation, in my opinion!!! Excellent job, fellas !!!
May I suggest , Take Me Home❤, thanks for a fantastic reaction. Love that you enjoyed this beautiful song. Thank you for sharing this video❤ God Bless🌹
Oh My….So Excited!! Y’all are hearing one of Nashville’s best Songwriters! Jamey’s semi-autobiographical song “High Cost of Living” is a Must-Powerful song. Thank you for a Country listen.
LOVE Jamey Johnson and this song! He can tell a story like no one else and the tone of his voice just grabs you! You should check out his song “I Remember You” ❤
I love this song as I feel I am that grandson. I don't remember grandma or grandpa ever talking about it but I am sure they lived through the depression and my grandfather was stationed in the Philippines during WW2. My grandparents had a picture on the fireplace mantle with grandpa is his military suit and grandma in a dress from their wedding that looks almost Identical to the one in the video.
Thanks for reacting to Jamey Johnson! What a fantastic singer/songwriter! You would love all his albums! All bangers! The Chair was made popular by George Strait.
Excellent reaction! Jamey's lyrics are like hitting the main vein. Takes your breath away. And so deep! Have a great weekend, Bros. This was a banger 💥✌🏼
Since you've opened that magical Country Music box and can appreciate a well written song/story, I'd love to suggest listening to (Hardy Wait In The Truck) feat: Lainey Wilson Incredible song
My favorite memories are sitting with my grandparents and going through old photo albums and learning my family's history. With today's digital world, it saddens me that many young people will never get to experience that.
Jamey is a great singer-songwriter. When George Strait recorded his song "Give It Away", a lot of people learned who he was for the first time. I like "Between Jennings and Jones". So danged clever - and pretty accurate. : )
This song alway's took me back to my childhood looking through pictures at my Grandparent's. My Grandfather was in WWII. He married my Grandmother in 1933. I'm in my middle 50's now and my grandkids enjoy seeing my old pics. They aren't black & white, but they are Kodachrome.
I used to ask my x father in law about WW2, Korea and Vietnam. He lived it all. I was mezmorized...Okinawa in 1945 then Korea and Vietnam. Marines for 30 years. THAT was a life
First I have heard of Jamey Johnson or this song. I listened because if the two of you are featuring it, there is a 99% chance it will be good or excellent. Thank you, this was excellent!
What a great reaction , you guys! So glad you popped up in my recommends. Jamey is an incredible artist! He's written for tons of other people as well. Check out "Mowin' Down the Roses" , or "Between Jennings and Jones". (If you want to hear one he's *written* but doesn't perform try "Honky Tonk BaDonkADonk" by Trace Adkins) New sub from me, thank y'all!
I love your reaction my grandpa was kicked out at 9yr to go work on a farm for room and board in the great depression he had to walk to school and dropped out in Elemetry school 6th grade then built a life and raised 5 kids
Another powerful one by Jamey is 'High cost of living' & I think you guys would appreciate that one as well. And, when you mentioned Andy Griffith, it made me think of a song you guys should check out. Brad Paisley has a cute song called 'Waitin' on a woman' & Andy is in the video & it's really special, because he passed not long afterwards. Check it out. It will make you smile; I promise.
Great song and great reaction, guys. Y'all should check out the late, great Merle Haggard's "Mama's Hungry Eyes," about living in a California labor camp during the Dust Bowl years.
Just discovered you guys!! Excellent reaction...you MUST listen to Jamey's song Lead Me Home!! Also, another good song by another artist is One Wing In The Fire, by Trent Tomlinson!!❤🎉
I think about my late great grandparents when I hear this song. Because my great grandpa served in the navy in the pacific during ww2 and his brother served in the army both served and also grew up during the Great Depression. Miss my great grandparents every day.
The high cost of living high is a banger by Jamie
So is "That lonesome Song" and "Redneck side of me"
Guy is an amazing song writer.

Shit…I’m 71 years old and now I miss my grandparents… damn it!
Me too, I'm about to turn 58 years old and I miss my Grandparents immensely.
64 and the same
Country Music is often called... "Three chords, and the truth." Such amazing storytelling.
I've heard that said by B.B.King about the blue.

Awesome song writer, he's got a bunch of them, he's another one that gave the opry the finger and went Outlaw Country.
You know the song is great when you would listen to it with just a guitar & vocal. 💜💜💜

Pure 🔥
Well that made me tear up. Glad I listened to it. The lyrics were hard, somehow made me think of Motorhead's ballad 1916, so hard, so simple, direct.
Those are actually his family pictures. One of the greatest hooks in a song
Great song❤
My favorite memories are sitting with my grandparents and going through old photo albums and learning my family's history. With today's digital world, it saddens me that many young people will never get to experience that.
Gets me everytime.
