My Grandad was a man of very few words, but my Grandma told me a lot. How he dropped out of school in the 5th Grade to help feed the family. She showed me food coupons. He lost the sight in one eye, so when WWII came along he was turned down to enlist. So he left his wife and 2 children behind and moved to go help build battleships. That is why they are the Greatest Generation.
I'm 78 so have all my mom and dads black and white photos . I am only child left. This was a walk thru memories of conversations with my dad from depression to 1942 my dad was in Phillipines. Still have all those photos to be passed down to my sons, their grandchildren.
A very straight forward country song musically and vocally, but the storytelling and emotion conveyed really make this an interesting listen. It has a very old-school vibe to it...much better than modern country music IMO. While I'm not a big country music fan, this was a very nice listen. Good stuff. Speaking of modern, old-school sounding country, have you ever heard Colter Wall? He sounds similar to Johnny Cash IMO...maybe check out The Devil Wears A Suit And Tie (live version from Original 16 Brewery Sessions). Cheers!

Give Jesse Dayton’s Daddy Was A Badass a try
"Should of seen it in color"......you should have seen it in real life
