- Decided to re-grind the USN heavy cruisers for the Research Bureau, and man, I had forgotten how good this line is.

The AP has higher shell velocity than the Baltimore, Buffalo and Des Moines. The ballistics are very comfy on the New Orleans
What I like about the New Orleans is that it does a good job at giving you a feeling for T8-T10 USN CA's, same with Myoko at her tier for T8-T10 IJN CA's.
Its not the super heavy ap, thats why its faster. You trade alpha and pen for it.
shells are lighter, even at 18km difference is barely 0.5s

@@lonemarkkingoftypos3722 Des Moines has better overall DPM and comparable penangles, I'm not saying that both ships are equal to each other but both have their individual playstyle and Des Moines is far from being irrelevant these days even after being in the game for so many years.
She’s so good in fact that in irl she had her entire front end blown off up to her B turret! Astonishingly her crew saved her by fastening bamboo and timbers to her broken hull that kept her balanced, and still managed to sail backwards to reach Australia!! Definitely a great to play and a ship with an amazing history!!
I had trouble with the USN CA line, but this one's easier to play than the others since the citadel is tiny and mostly underwater.
Lately it seems like I get double up tiered in tier 8 way more often than tier 7. So that's helping the New Orleans a lot.
Yorck is my favorite cruiser right now for exactly the same reason. The only Tier VIII in a Tier X team is not at all fun, two games out of three. Yorck is a bit tougher than New Orleans, which works a bit better at my skill level.
T9 also having +2 mm since Supers exist helped T7 mm alot. Its of course not like in the glory days of T7 but still decent.
They really need a surface ship only mode. 🤩🤩

Watching the animal potato 3 times in a row was wild, especially with the skip bombers where a player with 2 fingers could CBT you from the edge of your AA range.

Guns are great- accurate, decent range. Playing it without getting blown up almost instantly takes some skill.
I am on the Baltimore atm, very good ship. the 10k surveillance and almost 10k spotting dist is pretty strong, not to mention the OP AA

Wg should expand the heavy cruiser line of American tech tree, add a 3rd line for ships like new orleans, indianapolis, portland chicago etc. It would be great to have some tech tree usa heavy cruisers instead of only 3 premium ones like congress alaska and puerto rico

Played the New Orleans when it was an 8. I absolutely hated it, of course it was before US 8 Cruisers had Radar. Was my first Cruiser line to reach Tier 10, I wasn't really impressed with any of them after the Cleveland when it was also a 6.
Lol the gold ole days. Hop in cleveland and roll a flank. Oh and cv's had limited planes.
Yeah, the NO and especially Baltimore with its no-radar, slow-ballistic, non-improved-pen-angle, 15 (!) second reload design - on tier 9. That was a rough grind to get to DM.... @_@

@ucup63 I'm mainly a console player, and when I booted up PC WoWs, I was amazed to see that she had 25mm of plating. on console, she has 19mm, which is painful when you shot, but she's still my favorite anyway
Flamu called Heavy AP Shells a juicy skill, but I don't know. He did 116,109k damage with the AP and HAPS would have added 5,806k damage for a grand total of 121,915k damage. But then again, when I manage to get into those prime positions to shoot broadsides, RNG rewards me overpens or complete whiffs. For example, the other day I was playing Ranked, sync dropping with some clan mates playing my Massachusetts and had a Almirante Grau sail out from island cover at 5km, full broadside. I fired both front turrets thinking I had a insanely easy kill, only to have RNG award me with 1 shell hit.
The bad part is that they can't do a sub rework cuz they STILL have no idea what they're doing with them.
People always forget how OP American AP is in mid tier Cruisers...
IJN Heavy cruiser line has destroyer dispersion, more guns and better ballistics, the only downside is that you don't have improved pen angles.
Guys on CZcams do not know what Baltimore ranked experience was like....

i personally dislike this ship as well for its bad rudder and slow turning guns. but then again its certainly not the worst in its tier
