After watching James May’s latest crash, you realize that the phrase “big one” is actually their code for major accident. Thus, this is totally not staged. But once Jeremy sees Hammond is okay he definitely leans into the drama and I love it.

@nodafy They already admitted that they scout ahead for safety and to save money doing re-shoots n such. But there's always a real danger to the shit these guys pull off. Not inc their age alone! From an americans standpoint the bbc treated these guys like Tom fuckin Cruze, wit em doin their own stunts constantly. Clarkson alone is lucky he hasn't broken 100 more bones thruout his carreer wit the wild shit he pulls. I bet the BBC only got rid of him towards the end of his career cus the life ins payout outweighed how much money theyd made off a season lolol 😅
@@nodafy from aerial perspective is very hard to tell how steep it is especially a desert dune also they don't fly drones 24h in the middle of the desert, they are not Navy seals

The boys on the ground didn't know, they don't pause at every dune, Hammer went over at quite a sharp angle (vertically) whilst also being half sideways
Jezza genuinely didn't know what happened - once he saw Hamster he may have played it up for drama, or he might just be dreading going down such a steep cliff, but either way it's not in question whether the initial reaction and radio chatter was staged, it wasn't.@@nodafy
you can tell there is genuine care in Jeremy's face when Hammond went over the edge. you joke about hating each other but the truth shows through.

This is one of my favorite episodes of tg/gt .. I have no idea why I found myself jealous of 3 old men being miserable in the desert, but I watched this repeatedly ...
Because even though they are utterly miserable in the desert they are miserable together with their friends which makes it fun.
And that’s something we all just want to do is just go out and be utterly miserable with our friends but everyone is still enjoying the experience while we gripe and moan about it the entire time.

I know it makes no sense to have a v8 with almost no horse power.

Very good episode and special! The whole special felt way more realistic and less scripted than all the episodes before. The guys seemed to have more fun with each other and were much funnier (imo). As an old TopGear fan I loved the special, keep it up!

Whenever you hear "big one" you know it's unscripted. I don't recall Clarkson ever having a big one, but I know for a fact Hammond has had at least 3, and May at least once. I literally thought May cracked his skull on the side of that abandoned tunnel when I first saw it.
You guys are bastards for pulling a cliff hanger on us. Also, you should have made a literal cliff hanger over a dune. Can't wait for part two. You guys are doing some legendary stuff! Can't wait! :D

A lot of them are staged, but at the very least you have the Dragster, The Rimmac, and the Reliant down a cliffside - he may not have been particularly injured by that last one but smashing into a dozen trees and crumpling the roof I'd say had every possibility of threatening his life

Richard's Dune Buggy is awesome. Definitely the beetle I would take for a Namibian adventure.
Every time Hammond pulls off something dangerous Clarkson and May probably feel like they're going to have a heart attack.
However much of this show is scripted (and is still entertaining), I watch for the moments like this that seem really genuine.
I feel a lot isn’t scripted it’s just them fucking about with things like this (this scene you can see Jeremy going from joking to serious with Hammond)
If you hear them cursing, you know it's genuine.
So genuine that they left out the footage of the drop from Hammonds perspective. 😂
There's a difference between staged and not good for tv - an instant replay would have been pretty shit imo, especially when it takes away the mystique and just shows him straightening out and going down a rather steep hill@@Shteev91

I do hope the chaps or people from the TGT production team check these comments. They should know that the show is getting better and better. The first few shows felt a little forced when it came to the banter between the 3 chaps, but the show with the eco cars felt like a return to form to me. I laughed at their antics as I did when they were still on Top Gear. The chaps are back!
