Genius. Miss him a lot. Jackson Brown wrote it, Greg Allman perfected it.
I agree. I love Jackson Brown, but Gregg brought the song out to an entirely new level. He's always owned it in my eyes.
Jackson Brown and Gregg Allman are both American music treasures.
Both so under rated...
"Please don't confront me with my failures, I'm aware of them.." what a line 💔
SERIOUSLY...MY FRIEND
for your soul, love all, big
ABSOLUTELY ❣
This line makes me cry.
@@lorigage1361 your not the only one Lori, love all, big
“Please don’t confront me with my failures. I’m aware of them.”. That’s a masterpiece of words.
OMG!
11 words = infinite complexity.
My life story.......
When you grow up with the best and you look for a healing song and it pops up you know there's an 😇 looking down on you.
After 44 years, I still do not get tired of his voice.....He is still King!!
I heard he liked to take it up the ass.
Gregg's version is better than Jackson's
Maybe.
I was so lucky to be alive during this era..
I first heard 'Laid Back' sleeping on the couch of my grandmother's house in Liverpool,England in 1975. My father had recently died, and my mother who was only 39 at the time of his death, needed to get away from all the sadness of the post-funeral period, decided to visit relatives on the other side of the world in Australia. Well I was a bit lost myself, at 16 years old,but Gregg helped fill the void, and support me through that difficult time, and I have always come back to his achingly beautiful songs throughout my life. Rest in peace Southern Gentleman, you'll never know what your music meant to me.
I'm glad Gregg's songs helped you through a difficult time. I've found that music has helped me through many difficult times in my life. I wish you a life filled with musical melodies.
I lost my daughter recently and this song is the only one I have found to assist.....
What beautiful comments here. My Brothers headstone has The Road Goes On Forever inscribed on it. I'm grateful for all those shows I experienced with him all the way up until the beginning ❤❤
@@rhondalong942 Thanks so much.
@@philholdbrooks3737 I'm so very sorry for you. I hope comfort comes to you in the sweet memories of your precious daughter.
55 and just discovering Gregg Allman. What a talent. Sorry I didn't pay much attention to his music in my youth. but man I man I enjoy this song. RIP Gregg.
Better late than never...
@@KevinKerwin You can say that again! I'm in my sixties and only noticed him some months ago! what a talent, I'm catching up big time😊
& i presume you will for the rest of your time on this beautiful earth of ours i hope you do ❤
You got ripped off my dear! I was listening to Allman brothers at the age of 13, thanks to my older sister.

The words to this song can crush your spirit. And can lift you up to be a better human being. Great song.🙏
+ Chris Keilison. Better thank Jackson Browne my man.
Nobody sings this song like Gregg Allman. Been listening to this since my teen years.
2023 still listrening to all their songs.
Such a beautiful artist. Humble and kind. Great in concert. You are sorely missed.
It sounds corny but the ABB changed the course of my life. When Gregg passed away, I was at a cook out w a lot of friends. I went in a room all alone and cried. I’ve never done that w any artist. Hell, I’ve had family that left us and I never cried. That day I cried.
Hell, I cried when Duane died. What fabulous talents those Brothers were.
i cried when i heard that stevie ray vaughn died. i heard it on the radio driving down the road.
@@moonlightmile70s96 me too...driving to class at Kent State University. Heard the news on the radio. Cried like I lost a friend. Turns out I did.
As much as a really love his music, some of his songs touch me so deeply I try not to listen to them a lot because they make me cry. I have over 45 songs by mostly him, and the Allman Brothers in my iTunes library. I love him so much!!
BW Wells proves you have a soul that runs deep...something just has to be soul wrenching to bring it to the forefront...🇨🇦🇨🇦
This is the best vocal performance I have listened to, in forty years of careful listening to popular music. It is straight up sterling.
Gregg Allman has 1 of, if THE MOST heartfelt soulful voice I've ever heard...BAR NONE, RED, YELLOW, BLACK OR WHITE
Sterling would be correct! Ty Gregg.
Yes.
For me.... there will never be another voice that Comforts my soul the way Gregg Allman did !!
Amen
My late husband turned onto him and just Love his music he Anouther man and one of the greatest song writers singer of our time. RIP Mr Greg Allman
First time I saw The Allman Brothers play was in Warner Robbins AFB, in 1969, in a airplane hanger.
I was 13 and was flipping out because they were so amazing!
I have been a lifelong fan since then!
The first time I saw the Allman Brothers in Burlington, Vt, blew me away n still does! RIp Mr
Gregg Allman, always will miss u
I love Gregg's rendition of Jackson Browne's song, he changed the lyrics some to fit the way Gregg was feeling, and it's beautiful..
Awsome. I've only heard David Allen coe's rendition of this song till today. Didn't know it was a Jackson brown original!
@@Unholcannoli760 The song has been covered by some 50 artists. Gregg's is the best. See Elliott Smith and Saint Vincent.
I only knew the Jackson Browne version of the song. Jackson wrote it but Gregg recorded it before Jackson did. Jackson says that when he recorded it he "tried to sing it like Gregg did but..."
All of the lyrics are in Jackson's original version.Gregg took sections of the song and digested it
I took my nephew to see Gregg Allman a year before his death, he was with his band and they were great, the next month we went to see Dr John at the same venue in Kansas City, and he was fantastic, they were both gone within a year, I am so glad that I introduced my nephew to these great artists
One of the greatest songs ever, by one of the coolest and most talented dudes ever.
Rips me up everytime.
My heart aches realizing how great our music from the 60's and 70's was and seeing these photos from our heroes from back then. What a time.
Hard to believe Jackson Brown wrote this tune at 16 years of age , amazing !
wow
Jackson Browns version brings tears to my eyes. A song from the perspective of an older person written by a guy only in the middle of puberty
Siscokidd that’s what I said. Brilliant
Jackson is considerd by some to be a poet, especially in his early years, the same way that Dylan was. I personally think that Jackson could touch base and be more grounded with an audience than Dylan, but Dylan was in a world all of his own with no competitors and he was almost a decade earlier than Jackson. You said it so well, stretch54 about the perspective of an an older person , written by a mere boy.
@@debbiedavis5346 and thank you my love, no disrespect, lovers think alike
"please don't confront me about my failures, i'm aware of them"

Wow man..what beautiful homage you pay to an old friend...love it..celebrating life..what its all about...all the experience...lifetime in the road...loves and losses...I never want to lose my brothers...bless you Duane and Gregg...The Alman Brothers...
What a lyric. Gregg’s is the best version of a song that was covered by many. He really captures the desolation.
"I don't do that much talking these days."-RIP Gregg. Thanks for everything.
Thank you Gregg
NEITHER DO I ANYMORE. ? CAN'T. TO MUCH PAIN
@@Elaine-ce5vp I stand with you. Hard to get up anymore.
wonderful tribute ....been a fan and saw the brothers several times before the passing of Duane and Berry. Greg's laid back lp always was a go to for me when I was down.... these days and queen of hearts being stand outs on the release. thanks for the post and excellent pics & tune !
They paved the way for country rock 🎸. I truly love your soul

Just WOW! No one better...Ever... Miss this music so much!! LEGEND!
That last line, "please don't confront me with my failures... I'm aware of them." Guts me every time
.
ME too, I know my failures, I don't know why people throw in your face! I know, ok... actually they have been failures too at sometime, but forget about their failures.. shut up already, geeZ! wtf! nobody is perfect!
+ramajama32 Pretty heavy lyrics for a sixteen year old boy. What failures would someone that age.
susan colby
It hits hard every time I hear it too.
Gregg didn't write "These Days". Jackson Browne did. It still fits Gregg.
Freaking amazing that a 16 y/o Jackson Browne wrote these lyrics
JB is our best songwriter. "I look for the friends I used to turn to. Looking into their eyes I see them running too." From, Running on Empty. The song perfectly captured the letdown decade that was the 1970s. Peace did not prevail even in Vietnam, love did not conquer hate, generosity did not supplant greed.
I have always loved Gregg Allman's voice. There is vulnerability that comes as an additional bonus.
I'll be listening to Greg's music til i die.
A timeless, soulful, irreplaceable voice. RIP Greg.
🥂❤

Gregg's voice is the epitome of the blues. It's like taking a quaylude and putting it on vinyl.
Amen amen amen !👍🏻🙏✌🏻🎸😎
You got that right..Like no other in my book.He was one SLAMMING MAN with beautiful music.
There music stands alone , timeless forever. Hes with his brother in rockin roll heaven
Jackson Browne wrote this. This is a great version, though.
Amen to that !!!!
Lame comment....rock and roll heaven? Everyone knows rock and roll is the devil's music. Hell has another angel on the way....?

@@lorigage1361 I first saw greg, Dwayne all of the brothers in 1969. What a beautiful song. Thank you Gregg for the music you played together with the Allman Brothers Band for more than 4 decades.
RIP to one of the greatest voices we've ever known.
Jackson Brown may have wrote this song and at the time would have had no idea he wrote it for Greg to sing, but its "Greg's song" he makes us believe the heart break, the reality and the emotion of our own life. THANK YOU JACKSON THANK YOU GREG.
Right, this is the best vocal performance I have listened to, in 40 years of close listening to popular music. Sterling
10/22/2019- and still listening. Someone said, don't you listen to new music? NO
Elaine all the best songs have been written and sung.
Elaine ...this is what new music sounds like...
Elaine, stay strong and upright. Been a long road. This song carries on.

I love the music I was partying to in the 70's... still rather listen to the music from back then... what a great time to be young..then...where's the time gone.. I love ya'll peace
The dude had "IT"! Just the right kind of smooth southern rock-country-folk tunes that made us all happy, excited, amazed, & feelin' like we too were from Georgia. Gee -- who doesn't like a nice peach with ice cream? Or some peach in your iced tea? I even flew into the Atlanta Airport & appreciated the southern hospitality! We remember Greg & his band as a group that gave us all fine memories ....... lots of love to his family & friends from Robert Cavalier: Beaverton - OR Library; 1/13/19. *
It is such a great song! My 3 kids refuse to talk to me and none of the reasons have anything to do with what I have done to them! I am 60 years old and in bad health. And this Allman Brothers song is what will be sent to them some how and I will not be giving any inheritance money to them either. I have outlived my family except my 3 kids ... a daughter who was born Feb. 1982 and two sons born Nov. 7 1988 and April 30 1992. My daughter has 2 children which are my grandchildren that I never see . They are teenagers now. I do not know why my daughter stopped talking to me but my son born in 1992 told me that he and his brother had a problem with his Dad's friend. I took the friend to court but there was no proof !
God l miss The Allman Brothers Band concerts. Doesn't seem like summer. RIP Gregg. Thanks for the awesome music.
Jackson Browne wrote this song when he was 16. Man some folks are born with it. Greg's take is certainly the best.
Saw Jackson Browne 2 yrs ago , talked so fondly of Greg
and was fantastic !
my son died in 2014, this song says it all, RIP Jason
Today was the worst day, i lost my best friend, companion and comforter, She passed at 3;00 last night, She was my dog, but a family member to me,,She gave unconditional love, right to the very end in my arms,, Never judged me just loved me,,and im just feeling so lost,,God bless Love Girl RIP..
Greg was my all time favorite vocalist ever since I was 6 years old. Thank you for 51 years, I miss you, RIP.
It's hard to watch these videos and not tear up. He was with me all my life.... You're the King of Hearts.
Me too juice. Cried my ass off. My son at the time was 9. He saw me crying and asked why. Told him about Gregg . He wrote a note and gave it to me. It said He was sad to hear of our loss and hoped he was ok in Heaven . I'm still crying.
Until we meet again, I'm close to the end, my friends, I'll be thinking of this song when I pass this way again..and all the Happiness I had with my brother's, sister's, Mom, Dad never forgetting the strife, that's part of life that's my Wife ..happiness and the Happiness I'll miss, I guess I'll be fulfilled when they lay me down, I hope there's music where they send me!! That's when I know I'm in Heaven.
Thank you for sharing this sweet version of one of my favorite Jackson Browne songs. That slide show brought a smile to my face and a tear to my eye. Gregg Allman is without peer...
Gregg was such a cutie when he was young. So sad he died. The Allman Brothers Band is tied at № 1 on my favorite groups list with The Stones and has been for about 45 years. Such a tragedy losing Duane. Imagine the music they would have made if he'd lived on. Leon Russell was a big loss for me, too. No other passings of rock stars or movie stars ever affected me the way these guys did. Well, Aretha Franklin. Damn it. The world has lost some of its greatest musical voices.
Amazing Thank You Jackson for a great song
I luv this song! Luv hearing Devon sing it too!
by listening i'm crying for the good old days.....missed them !!
ME TOO, THINGS WERE A LITTLE EASIER THEN NOW...BUT THIS ENGORGED MY HEART, RIPPED INTO THE DEPTHS OF ME, SO TRUE ARE THOSE WORDS, IT HIT HOME.
As I'm writing this I have tears in my eyes. This has been a very sad may. Two of the greatest rock singers of all time have passed on. GregAllman and Chris Cornell. Two of my favorites. Their music was real and solid. They spoke to me in ways most people can't. Today is my birthday and my hero is gone. Farewell guys you will never be forgotten. You will live on forever threw all the great music and memories you left us.
Happy Heavenly Birthday Gregg 2023..❤😢
Beautiful. RIP Gregg 🙏🕯
That voice..the voice that captures hearts, soothes souls, touches places that sometimes brings tears, other times brings euphoria.Gregg Allman is an American icon and we are so very lucky to have had him around for all these years. God bless you Mr Allman, I hope you are blessed as you have blessed us with your musical genius. Does the word 'love' describe all I feel for you ? I think there should be a word that surpasses even 'love' It just doesn't seem enough.
Hey Julia,
I agree...adore is my word. I met him at Sam’s Famous Bar in Daytona back in ‘75. What a sweet, tortured soul that man was. Did you know he was very smart and actually studied music theory and several instruments in college and military school? He was actually very accomplished. I wish I could have been in his life. He always sings about how woman always did him wrong. So sad. I miss him and play his music a lot!
I couldn't have said it better my self . Saw him 34 times . Met him , shyer than me ,but a gentleman . I grieve him today . I actually just got home from a Government mule concert . Biggest disappointment in a while . Hoping at least SoulShine .5 songs . One Rod Stewart and the others I didn't know . EVERYTHING else were instrumental.so sad . Warren certainly lost a fan tonight . 22 year fan club member .saw him at 16 years old .dating my now grandpa hubby at the Charlie Daniels Volunteer Jam .. Then about 20 times at Bike Week Daytona . Like I said I grieve him today . If you all don't have his last one "Southern Blood " go buy it tomorrow . You won't be sorry ,but you might shed a few tears .
What a wonderful message Julia S

masterpiece of a song. i didn't think i'd find a cover of this better than the original.
until i found this.
so soulful.
Gregg and Duane went to a military school in my hometown. The place was a hell hole and the locals called the cadets "goobers". I was at the August Jam in 1974 with 250,000 other fans. The ABB went on after midnight and Gregg was fried. They took a break so he could sober up. By this time it was 3 AM and almost everyone had crashed from the heat and drugs so I was right up front. During a lull in the music I screamed "goober". Gregg was laughing so hard he couldn't start the song.
I Miss you so my friend.. we had a lot of fun in Savannah growing up in the clubs, miss your bother too... You're with him now baby, sing those songs in Heaven, my mom will love them , liked she loved all of us..

Gerald West : Hey Mr West, I’m with you...I was 14 first time I heard him but I was 21 the first time I met him. God I wish I’d known then what I know now...would have spent even more time after he was done playing. It’s just that he was soo darned high I couldn’t relate. It did seem like he wanted to though...he sat down next to me at “Sam’s Famous Bar” in S. Daytona. After we talked for a bit he got up and played his guitar and sang. I couldn’t believe he could play. He was so high. I feel so damned haunted by him. He was genius with a cross I guess.
Love Gregg Allman & Jackson Browne doing this song!
Perhaps appropriate to see again today, RIP.
I just finished reading his book for the 2nd time. I always end up in tears. He was such a warm, sweet man. so talented and humble. He is missed very much but it makes me feel better knowing he's with his entire family in heaven along with Barry Oakley, and Butch Trucks all making beautiful music.
