    About The Event
On Friday, January 10, 2014, music stars and friends joined together for “All My Friends: Celebrating the Songs & Voice of Gregg Allman”, a special concert in honor of the legendary singer, songwriter and musician. The star-studded concert took place at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia and featured once-in-a-lifetime collaborations by friends and admirers coming together to pay tribute to Allman’s music. The lineup included GRAMMY, CMA, ACM, Americana, W. C. Handy Blues and Dove Award nominated and winning musicians. An all-star band led by GRAMMY Award-winner Don Was served as the musical director.
    About Gregg Allman
Gregg Allman is one of the most acclaimed and beloved icons in rock and roll history. A founding member of the Allman Brothers Band and successful solo artist in his own right, Allman possesses a voice that has resonated through four decades; a voice that once heard is never forgotten. A legendary songwriter who expresses visceral human feelings in words and music-joy and despair, dreams and nightmares, loneliness and love-Gregg Allman writes from the heart and touches the soul. At the 54thAnnual Grammy Awards in 2012, the ABB was honored with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, in part a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the group’s seminal double album Eat a Peach. Gregg himself, inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, was also nominated for Best Blues Album of 2011 for his first solo record in 13 years, the captivating Low Country Blues.

Cried so hard hearing this version. Generations dying, irretrievably lost. I could never explain what the Allman Brothers meant to us in the 70's. It was so pure, perfect, soul-stirring. Where did this music come from? I hope it lasts as long as the earth. And what a gentleman--that Jackson Browne--so smart and elegant to step in.

We felt the same way about the Allman Brothers Band in the 70's. When Duane Allman what a heart break. I believe that must've been so incredibly hard. Their music was so unique no others were like them, the blues, the great song writing, arranging and composition to me is unique. Greatly blessed these songs were completed for us to enjoy, forever and pass down to our children.

Gregg Allman: “The first thing comes to my mind is I said to myself, ‘Gregory, do not cry. Do not start crying.’ If you watch the part with me and Jackson [Browne], we did ‘These Days’ and ‘Melissa’ and if you look at him during the second verse of ‘Melissa’ he was singing and he had a huge crocodile tear out of the outside of his eye and I was thinking, ‘Don’t start, you’ll get me goin’!’ I just happened to look down at the first three or four rows, they were all crying. Everyone in that place.”

Hang out and played such as James Taylor, Carole King, David Crosby , JanisJoplin, and many others as the club had open mike nights and many performers would do their thing before becoming successful and well known. In interviews about those days. All of them speak highly of Jackson Browne being in that scene and circle of friendship. Also the Eagles and Linda Ronstandt were there as well ! Actually, he wrote "Midnight Rider" at age 17. This song was written later on when he heard a woman in the convenience store call out for her grand-daughter (named Melissa) and Gregg realized that was the perfect 3-syllable name he needed to finish the song he was writing (Sweet Barbara just wasn't cutting it... lol)

When I was a teenager in the 70's I wanted to go see all the great bands in concert but my father wouldn't let me go. Thankfully my brother went and each time I couldn't wait until he came home to tell me all about it. He saw the Allman Brothers live several times and I am so jealous. To this very day we talk about the concerts he went to and all the things that happened. We both share a love of music and I am so thankful for that! Music is a bond that never ends!

Gregg Allman just smiles when Jackson Browne is singing. This was so special to Gregg finally getting to share the stage with a man that he thought so highly of in the music world. I haven’t watched many musicians who had as much joy performing as Gregg Allman. Miss you, brother. I know you’re smiling down with Duane and all the fellas right now!

@@user-ww8gy8cs1y You're wrong: Gregg Allman spoke at length about this song in an interview with the San Luis Obispo (California) Tribune on November 30, 2006: "I wrote that song in 1967 in a place called the Evergreen Hotel in Pensacola, Florida. By that time I got so sick of playing other people's material that I just sat down and said, 'OK, here we go. One, two, three - we're going to try to write songs.' And about 200 songs later - much garbage to take out - I wrote this song called 'Melissa.' And I had everything but the title. I thought (referring to lyrics): 'But back home, we always run... to sweet Barbara' - no. Diane...? We always run... to sweet Bertha.' No, so I just kind of put it away for a while.

I've been listening to and playing this song for over 40 years, and have never tired of it. This is absolutely a wonderful version. I can't think of anyone else I'd rather hear accompany Alman on this but Jackson Browne. Such a shame that this generation of singer songwriters will soon pass into history.

Great to see Gregg and Jackson, two old buddies, play this together. Jack Pearson's solo on this is so underrated. It is impeccable, perfect example of using less to gain more. The spaces he leaves between the notes are just as riveting as the notes he plays. Love Jack Pearson.

The surprised look on Jackson's face when Gregg joined in on what then became the last verse is priceless. Chuck Leavell obviously thought so too; It's like Gregg was saying "I'll come in whenever I want to, I wrote it!" Yes you did Gregg, you sure did! RIP
