Vince played with Pure Prairie League in the late seventies. Not really a country band and they had some big hits. He always hung around Albert Lee who became a country star. Albert played with guys like Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page. You hang with those guys you better be able to play a guitar.
You want to hear real guitar playing watch Albert Lee play country boy. I believe he was guitarist of the year six times.

Let's not forget, Vince and Gregg both are cut from a very high-quality cloth. When Gregg was laying down hits with his brother, Duane, Vince was establishing himself in Pure Prairie League. The 70's gave us so many southern/hard rock legends, and there's 2 of them on display here.

Vince is so funny - he said in one show that he lives in a big house because he sings like a girl. But he shreds like an all time PRO....never hogs the stage, always shows respect to the other players and is seriously humble. Great guy.

It's amazing to hear just how incredible Allman's voice was even at this age. He sounds EXACTLY like he did when he was in his 20's. Very, very, VERY few guys were able to maintain their voices into their 60's.

I can see why Vince Gill is in the bunch. Greg needed him for his wonderful falseto voice background singing and outstanding guitar. There are some people who are so good, like Prince that you see in videos with other folks. I think that Vince plays every stringed instrument in the known world and that says alot.

Gregg Allman lives on forever. A legend and great man. God has a phenomenal musician in heaven.
Greg had his issues like most of us did in the 70's. But he was a righteous guy. He came into my shop one day and was looking at a nice leather jacket we had at "Comes the Sun" in Buckhead Ga. When I saw him , I began to look around for Duane, who was my guitar god. Duane was not with him on that day but Greg wanted that jacket. I told Greg I'd give him the jacket at my cost (50 % off ) if he would wear it on his next album cover. I never thought about it again until I looked on the back of the live at Filmore album and sure enough he had it on. He was overshadowed by Duane and Dickey for many years but had immense talent that the world realized eventually .
You can tell how humble Vince Gill is.....in the background. Very underrated

As a die hard southern rocker I always felt Gregg was shafted by life having to live in his brothers shadow but everytime I saw Gregg Allman the show kicked ass! I cannot say such things about the Allman brothers band. Both are great but one was a true artist playing anywhere , anytime. His name was Gregg Allman

that's truly a great performance. And I must disagree, Vince Gill isn't under-rated...he's more than proved himself in a wealth of venues and groups as a tremendous singer, guitar player and mandolin player going back to the PPL days, his Emmylou days, and before that. His accomplishments are ( and have been) well documented. RIP Gregg...you'll always be remembered.

Especially when you get a phone call from Chet Atkins that just totally blows me away. I hope I have cleared this up. I'm never going to be in a class like Vince Gill and don't want to be. I am a troubador and I have had a taste of road life and concerts. I loved the bus! I am more happy playing clubs and I can work my crowd just fine. You meet a lot of different people when you tour and I would rather do one week jobs, at the most two. If it's a club you like you keep it on your calendar. If not, you don't go back. Hope you had a wonderful Easter!
With over 20 grammy's Vince has nothing to prove. A very humble and gifted musician. He has never let fame get the best of him.

This performance is epic! Chuck Leavell on keyboards totally gave the song a melodic tumble up and down the register that blew it out of the water! Kenny Aronoff on drums is inspirational and of course Vince Gill slayed it vocally and on the guitar. Gregg Allman, you rocked it! R.I.P.

My friend Kim Payne was a roadie for Gregg and Co. in the early days,he lives in Alabama. Greg called him at his house one day and said we are going on a national tour again. Can you come out to Ca. and join us? So my friend got on his 1968 CB350 Honda and rode out there on it in several days. On his way out he wrote this song in his head when he arrived he told Greg about it and they sat down tweaked it and put it to music. His name is on the sheet music as co writer with Gregg. He has the gold record in his house,he is mentioned several times in Greg's book He's pictured on the back cover of the Live at Filmore East album wit the other roadies. He also has a new book out called Roadie. He is a friend and I feel lucky to know the lost history of this song and know the true story. Now you do too......

Nathaniel Bozarth exactly across the board he is one of the most talented musicians to ever live and he loves to play with other greats and other greats love having him play with them. You can bet Greg Allman didn’t let just anyone on stage with him and by him having Vince and Zac on stage shows his respect and their ability. Zac himself is very underrated on the guitar.

I've had the pleasure of sitting and talking to Vince Gill while working security at a venue he plays yearly. The guy is so humble and down to earth it's amazing.
Zac is a PRO!! He's very careful not to upstage Gregg's vocals by over-singing his parts, and instead chooses to shadow Gregg's beautiful voice in perfect step. That's the sign of true respect and a fine human being.

LOVED Vince Gill's guitar solo. Kenny Aronoff's drumming was superb, as always.
I came here to say something about Kenny's playing. Dude is THE boss of the kit.
Kenny Aronoff is everywhere playing with everybody. He’s just awesome on the drums. I’ve always been a big Vince Gill fan. He’s one of the greatest guitar players and is so under rated.
Clapton's keyboard man ( Chuck Lavelle ? ) is one of the best in the biz'.

Allman Brothers Band is a highwater mark in the world of music. Greg's voice is the perfect blend of soulful, gritty and somehow buttery all at the same time. Usually these big group jams bore me, but this one is especially good.

I love the guy, he is all that you said plus just a great human being. Here, he looks like he was mowing the yard and cleaning up some brush and got a call to come sit in on Midnight Rider...where he proceeded to sing beautiful, perfect back up vocals and nail a badass solo. So great...the whole thing

RIP Gregory 💔 the real Midnight Rider ! I heard him perform this song live in 1971 and several times after. It always sounded the same with that gorgeous raspy voice of his. I'm sure all the performers in this group were thrilled with to have the chance to play and sing the song of such a Legend!
Vince's high harmonies made Gregg (and Zac) sound best ever on this song.
Greg always sang like an old man, even before he was 20. In this video he actually looks like he always sounded.
