Replace Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch: 2011 KIA Sorento 3.5L Engine

  • Replace the oil pressure sensor/switch when you see the oil lamp coming on. At times the lamp light may not be flashing, but stay on constant too. Either way you'll want to check the pressure sensor right away.
    If you allow the oil to leak too much and not address the issue soon, you may end up replacing a failing alternator as well. As engine oil will leak out to the sides and pour into the alternator. So to avoid another costly job, I recommend you check the flashing engine oil lamp as soon as possible.

    I recommend going to the dealer to replace oil pressure sensor.

    Thanks. This helped a lot when I did this job on my 2011 Kia Sedona. For those facing this job, the best tool to unscrew the pressure sensor is a non-impact 3/8" drive 15/16" deep well socket with a swivel attached. I tried a 15/16 box end wrench, which only allowed for a couple degrees of movement (not even enough to break it loose), and the sensor hex may be in a position such that you won't even be able to get the wrench on. I also tried a 1/2" drive socket, which was too big to work into the position where it could be placed over the sensor hex. The shorter length of the 3/8" drive socket did the trick. I also recommend that if you place shop towels into the intake to keep stuff from falling in while doing the job, as was done here, that you make sure to remove them before reassembly. Don't ask me how I know.

    Good job, thanks for taking your time to shoot this video, that is a really poor design for Kia to put oil pressure switch deep in the engine like that ! This probably caused a lot of misdiagnosis because it appears to be rear main seal leak looking at leak from outside. Thanks for passing your knowledge on.

      No worries! Glad it helped! I think manufacturers do it to discourage diy guys from getting in there as well. On the books it says its about a 4 hour job.

    Hi all, I have a fix to prevent this happening or happening again bc this happened to me twice. Had to fix the rear main seal and pcv valve twice.
    FIX: Pressure relief valve set to ~4PSI

    great video, did you replace any gaskets?

    Oil light comes on after driving it was suspected oil pressure sensor and I found oil coming out of the connecter once replaced. What would cause a blinking check engine light if it was all put back together in reverse? Would it be the plenum and lower intake gaskets? I was sure to be careful with the gaskets and the lower intake gasket seals appeared to be flattened so would that cause a sealing issue? 2012 Kia Sedona 3.5l with 134k

    How long to do this repair?
    How much is a good price from a garage ...including part?
    I just had mine done and curious.

    @10:49 you say thread it in to the red tape line but the old one taken out you could see red tape before you touched it? I ask because I've been told by others when i do this job make sure you dont overtighten cause you can crack the engine sensor mount. I just finished threading mine in but i can still see about 3 threads of red tape? Is this ok? I am also going to replace all my spark plugs tomorrow so i still have time to thread it in more if i need to. Thanks in advance if you answer me in time 😊

      @AutomotiveForBeginners  Před 2 měsíci

      Seems fine. Overt Tightening will rip the sensor apart. Safe is better.

    Good video , mine still leaks after replacing the sensor ,but just drops not like it used too , did i didn’t tighten it up, or is there oil still left out where it leaked before?

    • @AutomotiveForBeginners
      @AutomotiveForBeginners  Před 2 lety +2

      Mine leaked for a month straight. You have to clean up the dirty oil under intake. Will speed up the process.

    Kia could have placed the oil pressure sensor somewhere much easier to get to than taking the freaking intake off! Just a way to get more money out of the consumer! I'll never buy another Kia in this life or the next.
