The Chase Freedom 4th quarter categories were just released. Let's take a look at them and how you can maximize them.
I'll be answering your questions and talking about my upcoming trip to CardCon
I shop at both Costco and Sams , so those to app will come in handy. Thx
Using ChasePay through fuel station apps (e.g. Phillips 66, or Shell-as you said) should let many people continue to use Freedom for fuel in Q4. Personally I use Phillips 66 because the app itself rolls back $0.10 per gallon. That makes my effective savings with the 5% Freedom cash back roughly 8.5%. I’d think Chase would be well served to just leave ChasePay as a 5% category full time (in addition to whatever else they choose). If they really want market share, you’d think they would find some value to offering up this benefit...at least until they either hit their targets or decide it isn’t “moving the needle”.
Can you compare what hotel cards would be best.. thanks
Sure can. Added it to my list of videos. Did you see my video on hotel free nights? czcams.com/video/DuyOS5wK2Xk/video.html
How do you get additional points for Sam’s club?
If you use a shopping portal, you can pay for you items online and pick up in-store. You'll earn the 5% from the Freedom and the rewards from the portal
American Express travel reward cards should earn extra points on restaurants worldwide not just in the USA. Hilton & SPG are examples.
PS The SPG cards need a better earn rate. I want to use the card but it just doesn't make sense to use it.
I agree, the categories shouldn't be only restricted to US. I have a list of things Amex needs to improve/change :-)
Unfortunately, the SPG card is now a sock drawer card
How do they select who to give American Express Platinum offers to?
Are you referring to the 100k offer?
@@WallersWallet yes sir.
Do furniture stores fall under the "department stores" with chase freedom 5% category?
It all depends on how the store is coded. In most cases it would need to code as a "department store" to receive 5%. You can check how a store is coded by using www.visa.com/supplierlocator-app/app/#/home/supplier-locator I have found it to be pretty accurate, but not 100%. Some department stores might sell furniture. but if you are looking for a CC that earns 5% on furniture stores, you might want to look at the US Bank Cash Plus
I really want this card. Im trying to get my score closer to 700 (it’s 682 right now) next month I’ll probably apply. I want to get my foot in the door with chase. Considering the gold cards they have (Chase Trifecta)
The Freedom is a great card, it gets even better with the others Chase cards too. 👍
Waller's Wallet Does it matter if I get the Chase Freedom unlimited before the Chase Freedom? Which would you recommend getting first?
I'd personally I go Freedom first, the 5% categories would yield a higher return than 1.5%. Especially with the many ways max out the category with gift cards if you wanted too
can use Chase pay via the Walmart app I believe. Do you know if biglots is a department store? Thanks for sharing
I took a look at the visa supplier locator. It shows you how stores are coded (not 100% accurate, but pretty good). Big Lots is listed as "Discount Store/Warehouse/Wholesale." It might be worth doing a small test transaction, but it might code as wholesale store.
you can use chase pay through samsung pay now so you can use chase pay anywhere
Great to know! My pixel doesn't offer the MST payment. I wish it did. Samsung was very smart to buy Looppay a few years back.
Unfortunately I just found out today when i got my Ink Cash card that it doesn't work on mobile payment systems :(
Yeah unfortunately is the case. I wish they'd fix that too.
You should ask Amex why the SPG luxury card is underwhelming compare to the Hilton Aspire when it comes to Status, sign up bonus, earning categories rates, (aka 3 points on restaurants and airline is not a “bonus category” compare to old SPG system. 1spg on everyday spent= 3 Marriott) etc. Call me a salty SPG customer. Albeit, I know this is mostly on Marriott, but I feel Amex could’ve done more to work with them to bring a much more competitive product.
With that said, The wholesale clubs works with me with my Chase freedom and CSP. My family usually spends $200-300 weekly on groceries. I also normally use my Amex BCP on Grocery stores, but there's a lot better quality food at Sam's Club. 5% is less than 6%, but I'm guessing with the Freedom/CSP combo I come out ahead with transfer partner. Plus you can buy other stuff then groceries items at Sam's club
I'll jot that question down and ask them!
Agreed. You'll come out ahead this quarter with the Freedom, especially if you move points to CSP. Don't forget to stach with Dosh. It's and easy $20 based on your spend!
Waller's Wallet Waller's Wallet thanks! Also ask them why the Luxury card isn’t metal. The Ritz card that it’s replacing was metal.
And thanks for the advice, I’ll stack with dosh.
Luis Perez Second on the SPG luxury card. If it’s the successor to the Ritz card, it’s a mandate that the card be made of metal and have the $100 discount similar to what was on the VISA Infinite portal.
