I'd say that the easy answer if you're trying to maximize value is to get both just like you said. Building out that Chase Trifecta has been a huge way for me to get a lot of value in the credit card game, especially early on. And the more SUBs the better!
Agreed 100%, the more SUBs the better!!
Loved this, I was literally deciding between these two and this helps me make a clear choice! Thanks John
I would love a video on dual bank set ups. Like example, Chase FU, and a Sapphire + Amex Gold, and Amex Plat...all in one wallet

Thanks for the freedom unlimited bonus link I’ve been getting so many points from everyday spend !
Hey man, question for you. My very first credit card when I was 18 was the b of a cash back rewards, and I currently have the 3% category set to gas. Is it better to use the CFU for gas at 1.5% since I can combine with my CSP? Or should I keep using the B of A as my gas card? I don’t want to close the card so I really only use it for gas to keep it active.
One thing worth considering is visa vs mastercard. Shops like Costco only accepts visa.
I decided on the Freedom Unlimited. Easier to keep track of the points or cash back. I got a $10,00 credit limit, I got the $200 sign up bonus for the Spending $500 in the first 3 months. I feel the Annual fee cards only offer Travel perks. Since I don’t travel often, it’s harder to offset the fee.
Did you use the link for that? if so do we get the $200 bonus and the 1.5% or only 1.5%?
@@cemperor10 no, I didn’t! Just applied the Chase Website.

Can you make a video on how to transfer cash bonus from the freedom flex or freedom unlimited up to the Chase freedom preferred/reserve cards for travel/hotels? That part confuses me. TY
Hey, great video. I just subscribed. I have a quick question, is there anyway to take advantage using the affiliate link in an actual branch? I only ask because I have an appt set in store and want to use the link.
Hi John! Thank you for making tis video! How much longer will your link be active to apply for the freedom unlimited? I want to see If I can wait a little bit longer to apply for this card.

Update: The Freedom Flex bonus has been changed to only $150 after $500 spend, personally if you're not in a huge rush I'd wait around for the $200 again.
John I just got approved for a chase flex card yesterday with the $200 bonus. Could be because I'm a current chase account owner?
I got approved for the Freedom Flex yesterday with the $200 bonus after $500 spent and an additional 5% back on BOTH Groceries and Gas stations for the first 12,000 in a year.
@@reshimanivannan8386 Where did you get the offer? I only ever saw either 5% on Gas station up to 6k or groceries up to 12k per year
I watched one of your videos recently about building credit and the 30% utility rule, how does this work? Can I spend more than 30% of my limit and then pay it off, and if it’s below 30% before the deadline then I’m good? Or should I never spend above 30%? I’m just thinking about spending more to gain more points.
@@VoltaireIIyou can spend more than 30 just pay it off before they report to credit call customer service and ask when is the reporting day
Question a lot cellphone insurance. Does it cover your phone only? Or everyone on the plan that is paid by that card is covered?
I was reading the fine print on your affiliate link for the chase freedom unlimited. I seems like rather that the 200$ cash back and the extra 1.5% on all purchases up to 20,000$ (300$) value. It's just the 1.5% on all purchases up to 20,000 1st year. a lot less attractive. can you clarify and confirm otherwise?
Want to see your chase trifecta video, interested in learning about chase ecosystem for future planning of cards
I don’t see the flex card listed on the website you linked for your promo. I understand the bonus also changed. Did it get taken off the promo too?
Would love to see a video on the chase trifecta sir.
Bummer! I just recently applied and got approved for the chase freedom unlimited about 3 weeks ago. Wish i had known about the additional 1.5% link

Hi, will the Sapphire cards transfer out to choice hotels?
Can I use your offer for the freedom unlimited then after the first year switch over to the freedom flex?
Please make a video of the Chase Trifecta!!!!!
Can we see a Chase Sapphire Preferred vs Chase Sapphire Reserved vid soon?
How do I get both the referral link AND the bonus offer of 5% the first year on gas and groceries!?!?!?
So I have the chase sapphire preferred
I’ve had it since 2016
I want to downgrade and then apply for reserve so I can book a vacation and get the sign up bonus
Should I downgrade to the flex or the unlimited
I plan on having the trifecta
And how long should I wait before I apply for the reservev
Does it have to be used toward a high end hotel im not trying to spend 500 or even 800 dollars a night
What creed bureau do chase pull from for personal credit cards
I hv VentureX & CapOne Miles card w/$39per year for 2PPC (my first credit card). Should I downgrade the Miles card to no annual fee?
I have the Chase Ink Business Cash. Should I apply for the Freedom Unlimited or the Sapphire Preferred first? My main personal card is the AmEx Gold.
Question! If you get a sign up bonus on either of these cars can you get the other signup on the other card? Does Chase have a time before you can apply for the next card in the trifecta?
There’s also a link floating around that will give you $200 back and 5% back on groceries for 12 months up to $12,000 total spend. So 80k points total 20k SUB + 60k from groceries.
Heads up, y’all:
1st: as of the day after this video was published (17th Aug ‘23) the public welcome offer is $150 after $500 spend, not $200. How-ever…
2nd: I know he was pushing his affiliate link on the Freedom Unlimited pretty hard, but even with that extra 1.5x back vs. the reduced public offer, unless you are prepared to put at least $10k spend on that card in the first year then you’re better off taking the $150. That’s the point at which the extra 1.5x back nets you more than the $150 you get with the public offer. It’s basically “Spend $500 to get $150” vs “Spend $10k to get $150.” The return on spend for his offer just ain’t worth it unless you’re sure you’ll spend well over that $10k anyway.
True for cash back, but for traveling with points the value goes up exponentially compared to cash ROI
@@MrEggomylego I’m comparing two different UR point bonuses. You’re right, UR points usually have more value when transferred to travel partners, but what’s that got to do with my comment? One SUB requires a much, much higher spend to get the same amount of UR points.
weird, i just got my offer and it's 200 not 150
@@luisrivera3131 yeah welcome offers change all the time. It’s gone up again since my original comment
So you don't get the bonus offer and the extra cashback bonus with the Unlimited?
If I already applied for the credit card can I apply again to get the bonus with the link?
I for both within 5 months if each other. Good to have a visa for when Mastercard isn’t accepted
How good is your link? I signed up for it, but now I don't think I'm getting 5% back on gas + groceries or that $200. Instead, get this mid 1.5% boost that is not worth it. Thanks man!
Wish they had a soft inquiry option before we commit and apply,, My credit history is fairly new and I’m not sure I’d get approved 😢
The way I’ve gone about with my cards is that even if I get rejected, I just apply for another card to make the hard inquiry worth it
@@Erik-mn5zc Can you give an example? Are you saying if you get denied for the Flex you do an application for the Unlimited on the same day and would get approved?
how new is your credit history? i got a discover card about a year ago (im 19) and i have a car payment but thats about it, and i just got approved for the freedom unlimited
Regarding the Freedom Flex, why didn't you mention the additional 4% on groceries up to $12K in the first year as well as the Mastercard World Elite benefits that the Visa Signature Freedom Unlimited doesn't have? Just using basic math, for most people the Freedom Flex is the hands-down winner. While the Flex could perhaps use a bit of mid-life spicing up, with a 1.5% cash back as its only superpower, the Unlimited is an also-ran.
I agree - that's why I was pretty much set on Freedom Flex - it's easy to get another 'everything 2%' card that beats the '1.5% on all other purchases' of Freedom Unlimited; however now John's link has the new offer of 1.5% extra for 1 yr, which makes 'all other purchases' effectively 3%, that's tempting.
However, I'll have to see if the $200 sign-up bonus after $500 spent in 3 months is also part of the new deal - it's not mentioned on the page from his link. If there's no $200 sign-up bonus, even with 6.5%/4.5%/3% back, the new offer will probably require least $5000 spent to get $200 back. And no mention of 5% back on gas and grocery in the first year either.
Be like me and get both plus the sapphire reserve 🤷🏾♂️
Instead of cashback, can these cards earn chase points?
Hey John. Your affiliate link for the Freedom Unlimited shows the aditional 1.5% on all purchases in all categories, but it doesn't say anywhere that I'd still getting the $200 after spending $500, aka 20,000 Chase ultimate rewards points. Was wondering if you could confirm that. Reguardless, great video!
No, you won’t get the $200 bonus if you opt for his link. If you’re not a big spender, take the public offer
@@reshimanivannan8386thank you. Kinda funny because if you use it correctly the current offer I see on the website is better. With John’s link if you actually spend all the $20,000 of the 1.5% you get $300 or 30k points. The current offer I see is the normal spend $500 get $200, as well as 5% of first $12000 of gas and grocery’s which would come out to an additional $600 if maxed out. So all in all, if you just spend the the $500 in 3 months to to get the 10k plus $1500 through out the rest of the year, you will get at least the 30k points that you would get if you maxed out the $20k of spend. Love your videos John, but being honest, would recommend just going into an incognito tab and checking now and again for the standard offer with gas and grocery (also this g and g offer is for both the flex and unlimited)
I just got the aditional 1.5% on all purchases in all categories but not the $200, I am sad about that. can I call chase to switch the offer?
@@reshimanivannan8386
The bonus 1.5% you talked about on top of the reward % already offered with the Chase Freedom Unlimited sounds bogus. I signed up through your link last week, received my card, took it to the teller at Chase today, and she said she had never heard of an offer like that. I didn’t get anything extra for using your link…
When something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Same
I've always used Chase but lately, the savor one & venture x is a tough combo to beat. I feel like Chase cards have way too many overlapping benefits.
How'd you know I just made a video on that?!!? hahaha
True but they’re partners are way better than C1
You are the best
I signed up with your affiliate link for the Chase Unlimited and got approved. However, I don't see the additional 1.5% cash back on any spending category within my account... wishing I would've just signed up with the public offer since I now won't get the $200 cash back offer.
Lauren - thanks for reaching out. My guess is that the additional may be added at the end of month vs shown live per purchase. Hope that helps!
Any update?
How poorly does signing up for multiple credit cards in a year effect your credit score? I'm trying to get into the sapphire preferred and don't want my credit dinged for the hard inquiry
A hard inquiry only lowers your score by about 5 points, but once the new account hits your credit report if you're approved it will lower by about 15-20 points or more
Unfortunately, our service is only available within the United States of America.
The Freedom unlimited is better to get first but the flex is great to get too!!
why
sooo the rotating category schedule changes annually? it never stays the same? its always random?
I'll make this easy for ya'll just get the Freedom Flex! The only major difference is the 1x vs 1.5x otherwise they mostly have the same point earnings and benefits . It isn't gonna move the needle that much even with transfer partners if you value UR at 2cpp its only 2x vs 3x. Now the only time I would only consider the freedom unlimited is if the 5x promo on gas and/or grocery along with maybe the promo John mentioned with the 20k sign up bonus. Unless you really don't value the rotating categories, in my opinion its not a must have right away save your 5/24 slot.
Well said your absolutely correct 👍🏾
my first credit card was a discover student card, after a year i got the chase freedom unlimited, now its been another year so im trying to decide what card to get can you help me out ? i was thinking the capital one quicksilver but do you have any recommendations? im about to turn 20 in like a week and i wanna have 3 credit cards total by then
quicksilver makes no sense, you're already getting 1.5% cash back and it doesn't offer anything new. if you want to get a capital one card, look at the savor, it has some good categories that chase doesnt have such as entertainment and streaming @ 3% otherwise add the flex to get the 5% reward points, then later, combine all the points together with using a sapphire card for an additional 25% bonus when used for travel, but that card has $95 annual fee.
Can I apply for the freedom unlimited if I applied for and got the flex on June of the same year ??
I have the Freedom unlimited, But Chase turn me down on the Flex 😢
the one and only thing that is keeping me from applying for this card is the foreign transaction fee :/
My husband is thinking of closing his Wells Fargo account and get one of the chase credit cards instead to use for everything. 😂
I got the Freedom Unlimited in March with the 5% on groceries and just got the Freedom Flex with the 5% on gas and groceries last week. 5% on groceries from Chase for a year and a half and 5% on gas for a year, 9% when on both during their quarters.. just going to stack a ridiculous amount of UR points 😂
The grocery deal is over right??
@@boolerhouse7646 There was a Ben Hedges video about a week and a half ago that had a link to an offer on the Freedom Flex for gas and groceries. You have to open up the deal in an incognito tab a few times but it eventually pops up with that offer.
@@Johnsfinancetips._ Yeah I've just gotten super lucky. I got the public offer with the Freedom Unlimited. Then I saw a Ben Hedges video about a week and a half ago talking about a link to that Freed Flex offer. I had just been approved for the BILT card but said screw it, it was too good of an offer to pass up and got approved. Ethan Patrick had a video the other day talking about it too, saying that you will get 9% on the gas and groceries quarter. I haven't used it for gas yet to confirm it though.
I had 0 credit history and I started with the Chase rise card. If I have a solid income, little credit utilization, and on-time payments, how long do you think it’ll take me to qualify for the freedom flex and would you recommend getting the freedom flex before the sapphire preferred?
Flex in 2 years, sapphire pref in 3-4 years…. Presuming you building credits.
@@oneup8 are you sure 2 years is necessary, what if my credit score is gets to above 700 before then, is there other factors?
Highlight:: “you had 0 credit history”, it takes time bro. Unless you hv a car loan and/or other insecure loans that reflects on your credit hx/credit score, you shouldn’t rush because each hard pull deduct you score, each denied application is not going to help the future. I mean since your score is pretty accessible nowadays, keep an eye on it periodically but don’t sweat it.
Apply for cards like the discover IT , Capital SavorOne and citi double cash. These chase cards are a little harder to get since you need actual credit history but my recommendation is to apply for each card i named above every 4 to 5 months , don’t leave more than 10% of your credit limit in debt when the closing date comes and never miss a payment. The guy above saying 2 years or 4 years is far from accurate. As long as you’re responsible and don’t put yourself in debt , you can apply for standard credits and get approved just stay responsible and apply every 4/6 months. Not sooner
Could you please tell us how long your offer lasts for! I would love to apply with your link soon
Yes me too
Have you had either of these cards?
Hey can anyone help me out with some questions. So right now I have only had a debit card I got from chase and that is who I bank with as well as my entire family. I am 20 right now going into my junior year of college. I want to get a credit card right now and would want a chase one or honestly any card that would be great for me. Something that might be important is that my mother added me as a authorized user for her card but she has a capital one card so does that help me with anything or does that mean theres a good card because of this fact? Thank you for all the help.
Hi, is your offer for the double cash back still available if I apply today?
Unlimand flex are also doing 5x on gas and groceries right now
How long do you think they will continue to offer the 5% gas/grocery promo?
I would say it'll probably be a main stay of the card since that's such a big expense for most people
@@johnsfinancetipseven though they have cycled 5% gas or groceries off and on up until this point?

By applying trough the link do we still get the first year 5% of groceries and gas station?
It looks like that 5% on groceries/gas offer has ended. It’s not available via his link or through the public offer on the Chase site. They’ve also cut the $200 sign up bonus to $150 so it might be worth looking at other cards and coming back to the Unlimited cards when the offer is better.
College student looking a first card, should i go with the discover or go for one of the chase cards ?
Discover it card hands down.
I applied and got accepted for the Unlimited using your link. How do I know I have locked in the extra 1.5%? Chase's site doesn't show that by any means
It will show the bonus 1.5% when you log in and check your reward spending categories. It's a separate line-item so you can see how much extra you're getting. Great way to rack up points on purchases that normally wouldn't qualify for higher multipliers.
Hey, So which one is easier to get accepted for?
So you missed a key point. I just got the chase unlimited and for the first year I get 5x points on gas AND grocery up to $12,000.
How come on Chase’s site it doesn’t mention the earnings you’ve received? It still says $200 signing bonus after $500 spent and no mention of 5% on grocery & gas. What you’ve received wants me to jump on this offer but can’t find anything confirming that.
@Bobbza it's a hidden offer. I had to search my phone, laptop, and tablet browser on regular and private before I finally found it. Most people are finding it on private browsers. I found it on my tablets private browser.

Where do I find the code for the additional 1.5 percent?

John, John I need your help here my guy...
I'm currently a 21 yr old in my college years and on the fence of applying for the Chase Freedom Flex with your affiliate link bc that additional 1.5x Cashback sounds mighty fine.
However, I must mention some things first. about 2-3 months ago, I applied and got approved for the Chase Freedom Rise, which put me at 4/24 for the 5/24 rule. I currently have a 725 credit score, which I feel is a decent score to apply for this card.
I want to apply for the Flex with your link, but I have some questions:
1. What are some other rules I might have to watch out for? I know Citi or Capital One has some rules like the 2/30, but it's so hard to keep track of which bank has what rules.
2. If perchance I am denied, I know I have the reconsideration line, but can I apply for this card sometime in the future? Like 2 years later?
Hopefully you'll see this, that way I can have more confidence in applying for this card 👍
Chase just lowered the welcome bonus on the flex from $200 back after $500 spent to $150 back after $500 spent

I don't see that
@@adrianbira2583 I was on chases site like 5 minutes before this video was posted just window shopping for cards because I'm currently 9/24 and have no chance of being approved for anything and that was the welcome bonus for the flex when I clicked on it
