He had everything. Strength, speed, dribbling, shooting, passing. The only thing he didn't have was time. The football world will always wonder what sort of player we might have seen if that awful knee injury never happened so early in his career. Even after his injury he was still one of the best in the world. But it really limited his potential.

He's by far the best striker I've ever seen in almost 40 years of watching football. I'm old and lucky enough to remember his early years in Europe (PSV Eindhoven, Netherlands) and we were all flabbergasted by his skills and the numbers he was churning out.
He was an alien at the time: skills, strength, speed, goal awareness and lethal finishing (especially 1 on 1 against the goalkeeper) up to a level never seen before. Like an adult playing with children.
He was the prototype of the modern striker, dropping deep to get the ball and start his runs whereas most of the strikers at the time were roaming in and just outside the penalty box. A true shame that injuries, thyroid problems (which led him to gain weight every easily) and his easy going lifestyle cut his career short.
For info: Ronaldinho means little Ronaldo in Portuguese. Just so you know where the nickname of your favourite player comes from.

He's the youngest player in history to win the Ballon d'or at 20 and he almost won it at 19. This guy was the best teenager in football history, he was regarded as the best striker in the world when he was just 19, sadly injuries and a condition that didn't let him build up his muscles properly stopped him from becoming the greatest ever, nevertheless he won 2 world cups and still had a great career, it's just sad that we never got to see the full potential of the most gifted player ever

He had amazing technique, insane speed going forward and incredibly strong. Phenomenal!
Everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY that played football in any neighborhood in any city, in any country played pretending they where Ronaldo. The biggest star on the planet and definitely the best player of his era.
He's the chosen striker in the Ballon d'or Dream Team. Beside him is the likes of Pelé, Maradona, Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
To be considered the best striker of all time when we only got to see him three years before he started having serious injury problems, shows you how ridiculously good he was. Even after three years of injuries he comes back and has 4 great seasons with Real Madrid.
"Without hesitation, Ronaldo is the best player I ever played with or against." - Zidane
"He was physical perfection, and he seemed like a mythical figure. I love Messi, I played many times with Cristiano Ronaldo and I adore him, Neymar is outstanding, Ronaldinho was exceptional-but if you put all of them together, you might get what Ronaldo was that season."

Only reason Ronaldo Assis Moreira was called Ronaldinho (Little Ronaldo, or Ronnie) was because Ronaldo came first.
In fact, in Brazil, R9 was called Ronaldinho (because he started in the brazilian league, amazing everyone, at only 16). So the nickname stuck.
Then came Ronaldinho R10... since there was already another Ronaldinho, in Brazil we called Ronaldinho as Ronaldinho Gaucho (because he was the Ronaldo from Rio Grande do Sul State, whose inhabitants are called Gauchos).
Pretty common in Brazil to have two players with same name or nickname, then using the state of birth to differentiate them
Juninho Paulista (Osvaldo Giroldo JĂșnior) - SĂŁo Paulo
Juninho Pernambucano (AntĂŽnio Augusto Ribeiro Reis JĂșnior) - Pernambuco State
Juninho being like a diminutive of Junior

Then he had a second knee ligament rupture and was given multiple prognostics that his career was over and would be lucky to walk normally again. He was so fun to watch..., there were all kind of players, heart players, but when you those who are having fun, give you fun. I was always football fan, not one team, one player... So watching football from all over Europe, watching some players that moved to different teams made it great each time that leaves an impression as individual.

Great reaction guys! Yeah he was a beast and for you Hoops lovers :) Have MJ in your mind when think of Ronaldo. They have same exceptional physique mixed with exceptional talent. And both went straight to the goal, no matter who (or how many) was between them and the goal. The most crazy thing about ronaldo was that he was able to do the dribbling, change of direction and close control in top speed.

the thing that makes this is even more unbelievable is he played for Barça then he moved to Madrid.
he also played in inter milan and moved to Ac milan
2 biggest rival teams in la liga. And no fans even ever talk shit about it.
to make sure you guys understand how crazy this is I'll give you another player who did the same and what happened to him.
Luis Figo is a Barcelona legend, he moved to Real Madrid and he was trashed in newspaper, TV, and stadiums. the first game back against Barça, the fans started to throw anything specifically at him

Almost Everybody says "if not for the knee injury, he would have been the undisputed GOAT," that is a good way of putting it.
But I like to view players at their best moments, if you do that, then there is no match for this guy, his peak was higher than everyone else in the world, by a decent margin, he may not have won the most trophies, but there's still a player to come close to him, only the likes of Maradona, Pelé, and maybe Zidane and Garrincha could touch the guy.
For those who didn't watch him at his peak and wanna know what was like, take a top 10 plays of Messi or CR7, that was R9 *every game.*
