To me Ronaldo, “the phenomenon”, is the best. He influenced a whole generation of footballers, and his story is great: in 99 he suffered a knee injury that made him stop for 5 months, in 00 he suffered another injury in the same knee that stopped his career for 15 months, he recovered and in 02 he conquered the world cup and the ballon d’or. The rest of his career is also great but that recovery was epic.

*This Ronaldo #R9 aka Fenomeno was the 1st one, then came Ronaldinho (Ro-nal-di-neo), then Cristiano Ronaldo #CR7.
*Ronaldo #R9 and Ronaldinho are both from Brazil, Cristiano Ronaldo #CR7 is from Portugal.
*It's like basketball, the era was more of the defining point. Jordan era will always be considered the tough, intense, physical and more exciting era,
Similar to Ronaldo #R9 he will be the Jordan of football, facing defenders head on and traumatizing them, while Ronaldinho is like Kobe, and Cristiano Ronaldo #CR7 is LeBron, he is of the new era.
*In terms of accolades and accomplishment. Ronaldo #R9 and Ronaldinho both are world cup winners which is the greatest of any sports medal, Cristiano Ronaldo #CR7 is not, on the hand Cristiano Ronaldo #CR7 have won 5 Uefa Champions League, Ronaldo #R9 never won it during his career. World cup is nationality based and Uefa Champions League is club based, and it is the highest club football medal.
You can Wikipedia both of them for more intricate details, but if ask any true football head they'll tell you Ronaldo #R9 was the complete footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo #CR7 and Messi broke all the records but never won the world cup.

I love diego maradonna but the game evolved, with centre backs like nesta and cannavaro.
A pele would get man marked and bounced off by athelico madrids giminez and godin. It’s a fact.
The R9 ronaldo is timeless, he would dominate any era. In terms of individual success Messi and CR7 are the best. Diego Maradonna was my personal favourite but if we’re talking ability and talent, R9 and Zidane are the best ever.

7:26 Easy. Messi and CR7 are among the greatest, legends of the game. But what separates Ronaldo Fenomeno and Ronaldinho is that they were also big and hard to bring down. Cristiano Ronaldo is big, but he runs tall, so his center of gravity is higher, so he ends up on the ground a lot. Messi runs low to the ground and has great balance, so he's hard to bring down, but he's not as physically strong.
Also, during late 90's and early 2000's defenders were on some gangsta sh*t. They could get away with a lot more than nowadays, before tricksters and superstars became the protected species. You had the likes of Jaap Stam, Sol Campbell, Alessandro Nesta, Paolo Maldini, Gattuso, Keane, Vieira etc. who were stopping people in their tracks by any means possible.

Brazilian Ronaldo (R9) is the OG of the Ronaldos. He is my favourite striker/forward of all time. when he was in his prime, before his second major knee injury, he was unstoppable. He was the first player that was as deadly with his right as he was with his left foot. He could dribble with the best of them, and that speed was ridiculous. Even when he gained a few pounds, and was 'out of shape', he was still too big for defenders to knock away from the ball, as his balance was second to none, and his vision and passing skills were also excellent.
Ronaldo (Portuguese) R7 has proven to be a great forward, although in this era of the game, the physical play is not as crazy as it used to be during the 90s. R7 is an awesome player with excellent speed and size, but he is not the passer that R9 was. I like R7 over R9 in free kicks and heading, but everything else I give it to the OG from Brazil.
Ronaldinho was an attacking midfielder, and never a true forward, so it is hard to compare him to the other two who are forwards. Ronaldinho was, in basketball terms, the best point guard of his generation. R10 (as he is also known) was the most creative passer, and his free kicks are among the best of all time. He was not a speed guy, but was not a slow player, but it needs to be understood that because he played in the middle of the park (as he was a midfielder) the ground he covered was typically in positions where he would need to set his teammates in the attack. R10 just happened to be a killer with his right foot, making him a trailing attacker in the case he advanced into the 18 yard box ready to strike, as he did so many times.
I think that the debate is between R7 and R9 about the best ever, with perhaps R7 winning due to him being able to stay healthy for so long, while R9 may have been the most gifted, but needed to take long periods of time rehabilitating from NASTY knee injuries. Brazil has not been able to find their killer touch in front of goal, as they did when they had R9 taking care of things. Neymar is nice, but he is soft and immature, and so far has not showed the killer mentality that R9 had from the time he was a teenager. Brazil needs a new saviour, and it is not Neymar. As far as R7, Portugal will miss him, because he has been everything to them, and easily their best footballer of all time. Eusebio (another Portuguese legend) was awesome, but R7 took the Portuguese game to levels they have never seen it played.
My heart says R9, but my brain is saying that R7 because of his ability to stay healthy. R10 was the most entertaining, but that is about it.

It's true that Ronaldo didn't work as hard as Cristiano is doing right now (because he didn't have to) but some things, like the disorder Ronaldo had, are just written in your DNA and can't be changed. I do agree on the heading part. Of course Cristiano has scored more freekicks but that's because he took more. Ronaldo didn't take a lot of freekicks because he usually had specialists in his team (when he played for Real Madrid for example) I wished that we could see the ratio's and other statistics of them.

I do not share the sentiment

My list is based on my perception of DEMONSTRATED TALENT. It's not about stats nor number of trophies. This is a top 5 of the "best" players as those who i consider to have shown the most talent. A lot o things can enter in a discussion of "who was the best". To me, the best is always that guy who does stuff that no other can do and gathers universal respect of his peers.
    This being said:
    1. Maradona probably was the most technically gifted player in history but he was a cocaine addict. He was so good that he took average teams to the pinnacle of football and changed the game forever. Much of the mystique of the n10 jersey comes from him. IMO he was the best player that ever lived as much of what Pele has done was in the 60's against amateurs in the Brazilian league. Pele was overrated as fuck and more like a media product for being FIFA good boy (unlike Maradona who spent his life accusing FIFA of corruption and hanging out with Che Guevara and Fidel Castro).
    2. Ronaldo was the best player that i saw in modern times. Bare in mind that he had 3 CAREER ENDING INJURIES where he snapped his knee ligaments. And yet, 2 of those times, he still came back to be the best of the world despite having lost most of his speed and explosion. I firmly believe that Ronaldo would have became the greatest of all times without a doubt has he was merely 22 when he had his first injury. And please remember that Ronaldo played in an era where guys like Zidane, Figo, Rivaldo, Beckam, Ronaldinho and so many otheres where at their prime. Still... No one came close for as long as his body held out.
3/4. Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi in no particular order. They are both still writing their stories and have had MUCH better careers than Maradona and Ronaldo. But to me they never had the unbelievable irreverence mystique of Maradona (who unlike Messi brought Argentina to glory while he has been failing miserably every attempt) nor the universal acceptance that Ronaldo had at that time. Ronaldo was considered by EVERYONE the best player they ever saw in their lives. There was no competition possible. He was called the phenomenon for a reason. He changed the way forwards play for a reason. He had the power of Cristiano while retaining the techinque of Messi.
    5. I will say Ronaldinho because he was the only one with the kind of technical ability and magic that we can compare to Maradona. His talent was absolutely out of the charts and he own the world for a few years up until he started to pay more attention to partying than the rest. It's comprehensible for a Brazilian that, after the reign of Ronaldo and Zidane, and before Messi and CR, was the absolute nº1 with the added advantage to have a pure style of entertainment has we never saw before and since.

We have great ones, but The Best Player in Brazilian football history is Pelé, he won 3 World Cups for Brazil National Team, 2 World Championships for Santos FC, every sports Journalist agree he was for 11 seasons the best player of the world... He was a complet player, who could play in every offensive position, he had a style was a mix of Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, A Mix of Neymar and Ronaldo Fenomeno, a dribbler + striker... We also had Mané Garrincha, world champion as well, best player of the world, and Romário, Rivelino, Zico, Bebeto, Ronaldo Fenomeno, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Robinho, Kaká...

Dad and daughter is the best duet that could be. I have a 2 year old daughter and she is the best thing in my life, so keep going with your work.
For Ronaldo, this player is the best striker ever that played football, many consider him as the best player of all time. The injury scene in the video is an iconic moment for all soccer fans because he was injuried in his peek and he was off for three years, some say a non- injured Ronaldo is the best ever by far, and i confirm that. I grew up whatching him and even messi and cr7 (cristiano ronaldo) are below him

If you want to know something interesting about Ronaldo I'll tell you one story. He was injured of his right knee several times (crossed ligament problems)one of those he was injured during 6 months, and he came back in the Italian Cup final and 30 minutes after getting into the field... he got injured from the other knee, but this time the injury wasn't so easy, he had broken the tendon of the rotula, a complete fracture.
it took him 2 years to recover and when he came back (considering the type of injury it was a miracle that he could even walk) he won his second World Cup and after that he signed with Real Madrid and he won practically everything.
    Phenomenon!!

Ronaldo's name is Ronaldo Nazário. When he started in Brazil, he was nicknamed Ronaldinho, which is something like Johnie... a diminutive suffix also used for endearment when in names. That because he started at 16 in the professional team of Cruzeiro and at the Brazilian National Team (Ronaldo was World Cup champion in 1994, although he did not play in any match)
When Ronaldo de Assis Moreira appeared at Grêmio, Ronaldo was already a big star worldwide, but was still called Ronaldinho in Brazil.
So Ronaldo de Assis Moreira was called Ronaldinho by people in his southern state and as Ronaldinho Gaúcho in the rest of Brazil, since Gaúcho is a gentilic for people born in that state.
The same with Juninho Paulista and Juninho Pernambucano. Both Paulista and Pernambucano define their states of birth (São Paulo and Pernambuco). While Juninho is a diminutive of JÚNIOR.
    Juninho Paulista: Osvaldo Giroldo Júnior
Juninho Pernambucano (best free kicker ever): Antônio Augusto Ribeiro Reis Júnior (a direct translation of that name to english would be "Anthony August Riverside Kings Junior" :))

This Ronaldo pre pre injury was the best player to play the game of football. He won the World Player of The Year at 20 (youngest winner ever) and then won it again the following year. Then he was struck by injury and didn't play for three whole years. He returned then immediately helped Brazil win the World Cup and finished top goalscorer of the tournament in 2002.
But from the age of 19-21 this guy was on a different planet. The game was at it's defensive best with the best defenders in history and he destroyed them all. That version of him at 19-21 years of age in today's game would score 80 plus a season. Only Messi from the modern era comes close.
And from the old-school era only Pele and Maradona are comparable.

(Ronaldo and Ronaldihno were almost like Jordan/scottie pippen of the 90s, they are retired footballers. Old legendary cats)
Good to see our American brothers and sistas finally joining the rest of the world to watch football. I'm sure you have seen a lot of comments on this but basically,
    1. This #R9 Ronaldo(from Brazil) is retired he played from the mid-90's to early 2000's, one of the greatest players ever.(striker/forward/scorer)
    2. His team mate was #R10 Ronaldinho(RonaldEENYO) also Brazilian, it means "mini-ronaldo" basically, both names are a latin version of "Ronald". He was also a great footballer, but known more for his dribbling and entertainment skills.(he was just as lethal as R9, but not as much a scorer(midfielder). Also retired.
    3. Cristiano Ronaldo is from portugal and Messi is from Argentina (they are the new cats in football, and the world still debates who is better...)

This Ronaldo (Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima or R9) is the greatest of all time. Without him a lot of the tricks and skills used by the current greats (Messi, C. Ronaldo etc) would not have been considered. Also, R9 suffered 2 cruciate ligament injuries in his career and still came back as good as he was before to win the Balon dor (best player in the world).

R9 Ronaldo was one of the best ever. If wasn't for his seriously bad knees injuries, i think you could argue he would be the best ever. I was able to grow up watching him and Ronaldinho, and was a joy. But I'm a huge CR7 fan too. Pele was great, and despite the period he played in, he never conquered europe like so many of his compatriats.
