This guy is a genius-level actor. Played a brilliant Hearst, just impeccable!
And played the Dad in Jericho, the respected and loved leader of the town
McRaney is an old school pro! Character was brilliantly played. Made me hate a guy I love.
Thanks for interviewing this great man, he doesn't get enough praises for his portrayal of Hearst.
Simon and Simon was awesome back in the day!!
Never seen any interviews with the McRaney on this iconic role. His addition absolutely made him my favorite antagonist. Thanks for this.
He was excellent as George Hearst! Seems like a very nice guy in real life :-)
What an amazing job. He was great on Simon and Simon too.
My buddy. I miss my lunches with you on the set at Melodyland. Great man and actor.
keone young You weren’t too shabby yourself, Mr. Young. Great respect and thanks for your work on the show and film.
Mr Young, your "Swedgin ,,,cocksucka " scenes will always live in cinematic glory.
@@michaelhall2709 Thank you very much.

Gerald has long been a favorite of mine, ever since he played Rick Simon. He was fantastic in both the Deadwood series and the movie. Much love.
His second conversation with Mrs Ellsworth was chilling. Incredible acting and dialogue..Absolutely stellar
Such a lovely man and wonderful actor. I also loved his work in Longmire.
What a commanding presence and voice! I could listen to this fellow talk about anything.
Thank you SO much for this. I have hardly if ever seen this truly giant of a talented and extremely flexible gifted actor in interviews. Gerald is one of, in my opinion, best actors I have seen. I recall my Mum saying to me as a little boy "if an actor can make you hate them they are doing a really good job and are a very good actor". Mum's knows best. He played a real life character perfectly in Hurst. Vale an eyeless 'Captain'. The writing, cinematography, the actors, everything was perfect, although for me and many I bet will agree not enough 'Wu time'. Little Wu was a blast. It was amazing to see the genuine chemistry between all these actors, as tiny Sophia now a teenager, Charlie the same, so many wonderful examples of magic. The ending was for me mixed. If the will is there and David Milch is able the story of Bullock is a story/series that should be told as his impact in American law enforcement was huge as was his extremely close life long deep friendship with one of our greatest Presidents. Teddy Roosevelt. Me thinks Seth channelled a lot of 'US Deputy Raylan Givens' in this movie, he quick draw dropped one of Hurst's Pinkertons, and the other Pinkerton knew as he stood with his hand on his weapon 'not' to draw down on Seth. Brilliant interview.
He was great on Jericho as well
Brilliant Actor, He’s stolen my heart.❤️
A marvelous gentleman whom I acquainted briefly at a function. He was so generous with his time to everyone and engaging, funny, present.
What a great interview. He is such a kind man and has played such nice people through the years I couldn’t imagine where he found all that viciousness in him to play Hearst so convincingly. Bravo
Gerald played it perfectly!!!!....great performance!!!...
It was his idea to grab Hearst by the ear at the end of the movie? Legend
This man made a fool of me. When he arrived i said "Major Dad?". But his performance flattened me. I have been taught a lesson by you sir.
Gerald Mcraney is amazing good actor.
Gerry is a delight! Love this guy
True professional. One of my favourite actors loved him since Simon and Simon when I was a kid.❤️
Hearst is my favorite character and was beautifully played by Mr McRaney! Awesome acting!
Class !
I've never failed to enjoy his performance in anything I've seen him in.
"Has Ed Begley Jr. done his?" I'm not doing mine" lol!!
"His respect and love for literature is a reflection of his respect and love for the human condition." That in a nutshell is the purpose for literature.
timothy olyphant = seth bullock= raylan givens Gerald mcraney = George hearst = barlow Connelly
He really is a highly talented actor because he's nothing like the menacing character of Hearst.
watch the shies: i take it that you know him personally then.
Mcraney gained my upmost respect for this role. He was bad ass.
He was great in House of Cards too.
I hated your guts in Deadwood. Saying that, you sir, are a brilliant actor. 🇺🇸👍🇺🇸
Loved Hearst in Deadwood
Rick was my favorite Simon. Mr Mc Ramey nails his part no matter the character. True Pro not enough praise for such a brilliant actor.
You should mic your guests!
The build up for Hearst as the antagonist for Deadwood season 3, pared with his performance is why Deadwood sits up top with the other HBO greats that ushered in the golden age of Show we are experiencing now.
Despicable vile man...in the show.
Great actor...
Love joy was a comic classic....
Good one Georgie
Love and respect him as an actor, wanted to slap his character!
His most evil character was Bastian’s father in the Neverendind story. “It’s time to get over your mother’s death you little shit!!!”
I used to watch Simon & Simon with my dad as a kid. And l loved his fun loving attitude and l couldnt beleive what a monster he played as Hurst. But it hurt the feelings of my innerchild seeing him be so evil. But proved what a great range Gerald can act. Great show and l just loved Gerald or felt like l knew him in a way because l use to watch him so much as a kid. Lol
"i was fantastic" 1:38, well he's not that modest lol
yeah, it's not possible to disagree with the statement (he was), however imagine Ian McShane being that candid! Americans huh.....
Hes so good i want to beat him .
George Hearst would have died one year later after the events of the movie,I of a heart attack.
He lost some weight, though. I hope he's okay. Great guy.
In an alternate universe I'll bet he would have been an excellent Walter White.
Anyone know any online sources other than the brief Wikipedia piece on the Homestake find that discusses any evidence that Hearst was the way he is depicted in Deadwood? Most mainstream sites I've found say he is misinterpreted in the show. Not saying this is accurate...
Incredible hulk
The character you love to hate, in the time of Trump.
