Welliver is one of those character actors who is really good in everything you see him in. Deadwood was pretty much just a show full of actors like that.
his impression of Milch is amazing haha
With the beard, period suit-of-clothes, and hair, Titus Welliver literally looked like he stepped out of a historical picture book of the REAL west. His portrayal was amazing.
Welliver is Bosch personified. Nailed the character perfectly!
"Why do I feel lucky we didn't meet across a poker table? " - Silas Adams
I tried to rewatch deadwood in lockdown, but I remembered it to much from rewatching deadwood in lockdown.
My comment was not to take anything away from Titus Welliver, because I have enjoyed watching him in virtually everything he has ever done!
Deadwood is a great show. If only there was about 12 seasons plus the movie.
So sad to hear Milch having alzheimer's. What a gem of a writer.
@@mysticsaxophone4181 He's a true mad genius.
If only there were 12 seasons instead of the movie.
@@geoffroy1970 I wholeheartedly concur with that statement lol
My daughter and I pay homage to David Milch's Deadwood: czcams.com/video/1HXC9azwn2U/video.html
I love Titus as an actor. So, so good.
Outstanding! David is a legend. A genius with a heart of gold. Self deprecating and hilarious. Your description of him is spot on.
Having watched Titus apply his craft for over many years..in heaps of movies & TV shows portraying many different characters..it wasn’t until the role of Harry Bosch came along that I became such a huge fan..for me the show Bosch “punches well above it’s weight”..he’s such a cool dude!
Great interview, phenomenal actor. He’s been fabulous in every role he’s taken on.
Deadwood was probably one of the best 5 or 6 series in television history
Man, I love his voice. It's so badass.
@Simon Lomax It was good, but I wouldn't say brilliant.
It could easily have been a 3 hour movie and still not had enough time to properly "tie up loose ends".
All it really did was rehash main plot points from the show, practically reintroduced the cast (as if everyone has forgotten), and played out like an episode.....instead of truly ending the story.
It left a few strings dangling and had a sort of very minor cliffhanger.
If you haven’t watched Bosch you’ve missed out. It’s outstanding. So is Welliver playing the title role.
i'll have to give it a watch. i loved him as Silas, didn't even put it together that he played Bosch (i've seen it advertised but i'm not a huge series watcher) lol. every actor on Deadwood i see in these sorts of interviews, i think "wow i loved them in that part" and there's such a rich detailed backstory of their character that flood your memory because the writing was so amazing. Titus certainly was a part of why i loved that show so much.
If any of you haven't seen Bosch, its very good and addicting
I love how he did Milch's voice
This guy that is doing the interview didn't even notice what a perfect impression of David Milch Titus was doing.
He had a huge grin on his face, he knew.
That was perfect
I noticed that too, spot on.
I like the fact that he looks the interviewer in the eye, many actors don’t.
Most actors, and people in general, don't because their EGO gets in the way.
@@owensweetland342 - Incorrect. It rarely has to do with EGO, child. As humans, our brains actually can't handle the tasks of thinking of the right words and focusing on a face at the same time. Some humans have less of an issue with this, while a vast quantity do. Keeping eye contact can be overstimulating and interrupt the cognitive process. This is why it's easier to maintain eye contact while listening, but the speaker will glance away when they begin to communicate.
"A recent experiment conducted in Japan suggests that eye contact draws on the same mental resources used for complex tasks, so trying to maintain eye contact can impede your reasoning. In this case, the break in eye contact comes not from emotion, but from the need to preserve cognitive resources. Eye contact can deplete your mental bandwidth."

I think I first discovered Welliver in Lost. Then noticed him in Deadwood. Then devoured Bosch. Loved everything he did but still love his character in Lost the best. This doesn't sound correct, but I guess I miss Lost so much!
I used to get drunk and cry and watch the ending when Jack's Dad tells him he died.
His Milch impression is killing me xD
I didn't know him from anything until LOST. The Man in Black. Then I realized he was in Deadwood! Stands out in everything from The Town to Gone Baby Gone. Even showed up on Celeb Ghost Stories.
Same here. : I think I first discovered Welliver in Lost. Then noticed him in Deadwood. Then devoured Bosch. Loved everything he did but still love his character in Lost the best. This doesn't sound correct, but I guess I miss Lost so much!
What an anecdote and quote right at the end there.
i enjoyed his acting in Deadwood. My wife & I just started watching Bosch and now enjoy him in that as well. Great actor for sure. Didn't realize he was all tatted up. :)
Was wondering if the tats are real, or temps applied for playing Bosch. He's also wearing the braided white cloth wristband as he does in Bosch. Believe his on-screen daughter, Maddy, wears a matching band on her arm. Would like to know the story behind them.
coolest dude ever-way more interesting than "bigger" mainstream actors
With the worst tattoos ever.
this show should be a podcast.
Lmao his milch impression is spot on
what a voice...
Loved him in LOST, DEADWOOD AND SONS OF ANARCHY❤❤❤❤❤❤
It's a shame he couldn't reprise his role for the movie.
I cannot wait for the next season of Bosch. Best show out there. Well, that and Barry.
Where is the whole interview? I wanna see it
Titus is also a huge Deftones fan so he is beyond a badass
I love this guy and all his characters, especially Silas Adams on Deadwood. Slow and sexy.
I got a feelin’ that I can’t let go
Filming begins next month on the Deadwood movie at Melody Ranch, CA..I see Emmy's across the board for the cast and crew!
@Don Antonio Why not?
Wow!!! Good for you douche bag.
Great David Milch impersonation !!
Great actor
Wonderful Milch impressions...
Bosch wishes he was this open. THAT GUY is sealed up and caked with the Amontillado.
That’s a great Milch impression
Damn shame his character is not in the Deadwood movie....I wonder what they'll say about Adams in the film.
My first exposure to Titus his playing Jimmy O'Phelan on Sons of Anarchy. I totally thought he was Irish, fer shure. Imagine my surprise when I learned he's a Yank
I have to say that David Milch is a genius at writing a script. He just steers all the actors toward the outcome that he wants. However, my comment is mostly about Titus Welliver and his many tattoos. I have never had any desire for a tattoo, because I many scars that tell a much better story than any tattoo could ever tell or show!
He’s great in Deadwood, Lost, Sons of Anarchy and I heard he’s good on Bosch
He always reminds me of James Nesbitt..
@@ZigUncut Now that might be worth seeing..
@@ZigUncut I replied as a joke anyway.. I thought it might be just me that gets these two actors mixed up.. A lot of it is their behaviour, facial expressions and mannerisms etc. For me anyway.. It is said we all have a double anyway, somewhere out there.
I knew he was Adams from the first second, but i wish they would have shown a picture of him in costume.
Bosch Series 4
3:20, my new favorite term
I was this many days old when I realized Adams, was the IRA guy from SOA
Damn! Sounds just like David Milch!
It's a beautiful scene in NYPD Blue when Titus' dr. character shows up at Sipowicz's precinct as a followup regarding Andy's prostate surgery and prescribes him Viagra. Whoo...you could've hung laundry off the guy.
It took me at least 5 minutes I was listening to Silas
That’s exactly what Milch sounds like.
Then why didnt he make time to come back for the deadwood movie. It would have been awesome having him in it.
I wish in hindsight that they'd had some sort of throwaway line for why Silas wasn't around; it would have made sense if he'd moved to Yankton and worked in politics in some way.
“I don’t use personal experience in my work, that’s not acting.”
Cut to today and if you’re not already like the character, you don’t get the part. 😄
I wonder why Titus wasn't in the Deadwood movie.
Being disappointed by miss Isringhousen would have been delightful.
Where the Hell was he in the Deadwood movie....????
Why would she dump him middle of production? Crazy!
If it was so unique why didn't ya show up for the moobie, Welliver? We missed you
Shamanistic writing.

Interesting tattoo choices...and by that I mean, "WTF?"
thats the beauty of art, it doesnt have to mean something to everyone; as long as it means something to him.
He should never, never try to do an Irish accent ever again.
When your job is to be a chameleon who can portray any character in any period of history- and you get ridiculous arm tattoos.
Long sleeves and makeup are a thing now, friend. And who cares? As long as you don't have some Nazi shit inked on yourself, tats are fine
Why do you put tats on your arm if you are a actor ?
The same reason you get them if you’re not an actor; you like them, and they have personal meaning to you.
his character in deadwood was pointless. but great show
You could argue that about a few of the characters. That's what is so good about the show; there is room in the story for those characters and moments that add texture to the world without necessarily adding anything to the story.
why is this b&w? doesnt add anything to the interview, in fact it detracts from it.
it only detracts for those so far gone on drugs they can not focus unless it goes BANG BANG and EXPLODES
Terry JP ok douche, have fun thinking of urself as clever...
@@nancybabbage1169 Shut up douche
Derek T good one generic simp, what enviable wit you have...
If he thinks bringing personal life feelings/ experience into acting is not acting.. Brando, Pacino, and DeNiro called, they're willing to give back their Oscars and denounce their work..
Great acting can never NOT incorporate personal experience and emotion, it's not possible.
Is it possible to do a serviceable job without creating that in your head? To a point yes. But if you want to convey truth, your body and mind is forced to use what it knows, regardless if you're playing a role that fits you or not, meaning your ability to feel and act on an emotion comes from who you are as a person. It's then you as an actor that takes that knowledge into your work.
Does someone need to 'be in character' 24/7 to reach this point? Not necessarily, but it does make the experience more fluid and easier to access.
Acting without needing to access your well of feelings and thoughts is what bad acting looks like. It's blank and not in touch to what's happening. It's completely surface with nothing underneath. Anybody can do that..
What makes this business an art form is the ability to harness and focus bad acting, into great acting. And that is done with preparation, relaxation, and focus. Intermingled within that is your ability to access the depths of your being, the knowledge of your emotions, however you want to word it. And then the way you deliver it is the technical skill.
Bit if a rant here, but I cant fuckin stand it when an actor, even one with a resume, says "well I don't think that's acting.."
But there are actors more talented than yourself who do! So that kind of craps on your point.
De Niro, Pacino and Brando are three of the most overrated actors ever; they've done about five good films between them....and yes I watched most of their stuff. De Niro gurns and Pacino rants and chews his way through the scenery in most of his roles. Welliver is better at his craft than than those three.
And how much acting have you done...armchair expert?
@@steven2809 Google my name Stevey.
Roger Wayne Fair enough...but I’m reminded of a story told by Dustin Hoffman filming Marathon Man who went without sleep for 36 hours to film a scene where he was supposed to be exhausted and ‘out of it’. His co star a certain Laurence Olivier (you might have heard of him...) said to Dustin...”Next time dear boy...just act!” I think that sums it up...you don’t need to BE the character... it’s about the CRAFT of acting. 🙂
@@steven2809 I can't even remember my thoughts 10 months ago when I wrote this. Yeah the Hoffman story has been recycled for years, and it has merit, but Olivier mainly was a stage actor. What I'm really referring to is film acting. Really good, raw, acting for On-camera.
