Hello everyone,
Welcome to the world of not terrible restorations, where I bring old and neglected treasures back to life.
In today's video, we're diving into the fascinating world of restoration with a keen focus on a single, iconic coffee grinder - the ESM "Die Krone K02" from 1957.
Get ready to witness the transformation of this German-made coffee grinder, taking you on a journey from rusty and broken to pristine and fully functional. From casting broken plastic parts with precision using casting resin to the finishing touch of powder coating, I'll show you how I breathe new life into this retro coffee grinder.
This video is a treat for all coffee lovers out there who appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into each restoration project. If you're a fan of ASMR restoration or a DIY enthusiast, you're in the right place.
So, whether you love coffee or just enjoy watching calm restorations, make sure to hit that subscribe button and ring the notification bell. Stay tuned for more exciting projects coming your way. Thanks for watching!
The beer review will be at the end of every project from now on. I've thought about this for a long time and as many comments I get from viewers who love the tasting, I get from viewers who don't like it. Personally, I am Dr. Beer and will always enjoy my cold beers. But I understand that people get distracted from the core of the restoration in the videos.
My understanding is that putting the review at the end is a good compromise for everyone. So if you don't want to watch it, just skip the end. If you love the review, you can look forward to the grand finale.
If you can't live with this compromise, just visit the millions of restoration channels out there :)

@@NTRprojectsyou are new to me. Very nice. This is on the order of My Mechanic in my opinion the benchmark of restoration.
Will continue to watch going forward
do you sell your projects? your restorations are among the best I've watched.
You are the only one restorer that start the restoration with one item and finished with 2 same items 😅😅 sorry for the spoiler 😁 you have my respect for the whole hard working you put in this video 👌 hat off mate 🎩
Thank you my friend. I look forward to your video. But I will watch it in bed tonight, when I have the time to enjoy it to the fullest
Thanks for ruining it
Ruining what? Really? 😂@@TheTheRanger1

In case the grease comment was a strange reference for someone out of the US
That's just how good he is!
You destroyed the haters with the surprise at the end. Amazing work, especially recutting the grinding gears. Well done
The manufacturer was very sincere and careful in making that machine. Your restoration matches that perfectly.
Not only are your restorations a joy to watch, but even the video editing is stylish and very creative. You are a true artist. Thank you for making these episodes and for restoring elements of our past.
Okay definitely your best one so far. So much work put in one easy to watch video…respect.
Thank you my love. I'm free now for our next project together. Will call you later 😚
Absolutely beautiful work! I was particularly impressed with your work milling the grinding wheel. Such patience and precision! You always inform, teach, and entertain. Thank you.
Thank you very much my friend
Oh man, that green is absolutely beautiful. Really pops, and very period appropriate. Nice work!
Extraordinary work. Your channel is very inspiring. The humorous title of your channel is self deprecation to the n’th degree. You must know that your work is up there with the very best. Congratulations.
As an engineer myself, your skills are an absolute joy to watch. I doff my cap in your general direction, sir. 😊
Thanks a lot zed
I love your choice of color. You do amazing work.❤
I LOVE your choice of the green! Excellent restoration! 👏👏👏
Great work on those machine; I prefer Belgium beer...
Thanks a bunch! I'm glad you liked it. Cheers to Belgium beer! 🍻
What I like the most in your videos is that you don't modernize what you reapair but keep the vintage touch. Awesome work as usual!
Also love the quote to The Emperor's New Groove at 22:11
Oh yeah, it's all coming together.
You have to marvel at the amount of precision engineering that went into something as simple as a coffee grinder back in the day. Your restoration is fascinating to watch with amazing results.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I really appreciate your support and I'm glad you found the restoration fascinating.
@14:55 Wow!
@26:30 LoL!
Great restoration(s)!
Haha, I'm glad I could give you a "Wow!" and a "LOL!" moment in the same video! Stay tuned for more surprises!
I love watching restoration videos and your channel is one of my favorites because the effort you put into editing your videos and restoring the items. Both keeping some of what made it cool and old and often adding your own new spin! Also love seeing creators that are environmentally aware and often use recycled parts in their projects.
You mention everything that is dear to me. Thank you for the appreciation
Tolle Wahl für das Grün, meine Fensterläden sind genauso ;)
Dann haben wir beide eine gute Wahl getroffen
What a nice restoration of even two machines! They came out very well 😄👍
About the beer test - I thought that people would complain about you drinking while working. I don't mind though 'cause I like have a beer from time to time 😀
he clearly drinks at the end of the work day once all the restoration is done, good honest worker we have right here
Yes but in fact that was misunderstood by many people as they thought I drink while working...
These belong in a high-end coffee shop!
Oh to have freshly ground coffee beans every morning!
Thats the answer.. im always wandering where you go...since you not upload video.. this two really takes you long time 😅.. anyway really superb for this duo "RETROsration"👍🏼👍🏼
I appreciate the work to put into the video production, from description, audio, chapters, closeups, to captions. The care you take with restoration shines through in the production. Great job, beautiful work, thank you.
that was in great shape. you found a gem. I'm 30 seconds in. Excited to watch the rest.
I was afraid there wouldn’t be a beer tasting. While I don’t drink beer myself, I enjoy your reviews and one of the features that makes your channel unique.
TWO OF THEM! Love it!
Amazing video! In the search for the ultimate espresso restoring an old Mahlkonig EK43 would be the way to lure all the coffeegeeks to your channel.
The particle size distribution on those custom burrs is gonna be *interesting*.
That green is gorgeous. Its so vibrant
Klasse Video! Aber der Simson-Pullover gefällt mir am allerbesten🙌🏻
Den hab ich von meiner Freundin, passend zu meinem Star, den ich mir vor CZcams restauriert habe. Kannst du übrigens auf meinem Instagram ansehen
Damned nou I am craving a nice cold beer... Not terrible job you have done here.
Thank you Ben and enjoy your end of the week with a beer
Hello! Thanks a lot! It's great to meet you. You invent many things, One of my favorite channels. The lighting, macros and editing are all top notch. No frills, just a great restoration. 👍😘😘😘
I hope to see more, this is not terrible at all!
Great vid, beautiful colour 👍🏼
Thank you for your support! I really appreciate your positive feedback.
Hello mister beautifully restored good job well done
Thanks a lot for watching and commenting Vince Ianni
Love the blue one
just something that appeals to the soul when a device has heft and is rebuildable, and then is brought back to life. this grinder must have had an active life to wear the brushes down to the springs.
Thanks a lot for watching and commenting steve s
Special colours and perfect restoration
Excellent work ! and I love the little touch of beer at the end of the video. To drink in “Moderation”
Thank you for keeping the beer review even if you moved it to the end. As you said you are Dr. Beer and it is a unique touch you do versus other restoration channels. Danke noch einmal
My pleasure!
Love it great video as always 😄
Love it? I love you for loving it! 😄
Moedor de café restaurada ☕😉
Beautiful
Thanks @heathmurphy3735
Nice restoration, cheers.
Thank you Larry
One of your best yet ! The resin casting, peroxide treatment, powder coating all “not so bad” !!!
Came for the restoration video, enjoy the beer review just as much! Excellent job, as always! :)
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed both the restoration video and the beer review. It means a lot to me that you appreciate my content.
This video sir, was just an awsome pleasure to watch. I watched it with coffee on my balcony in the morning and for 29 minutes, every bad thing was gone. It was just another brilliant Restoration, i bet you can cure depression, and if its just for 30 minutes. Well done and greetings from Germany, Bavaria. Keep going.
Thank you so much for this
Awesome ingenuity on a most excellent restoration...that being said you should never spin a dry bearing with air..they can explode!!...my cousin was shrapnelled by one..
I did actually not know that. Thank you
@@NTRprojectsI learned it young..all the men in the family were old school farm mechanics!..unfortunately my cousin wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed!
What a beautiful restoration! This is pure perfection. As always great to watch your videos. Thanks!!
Thank you very much!
Thanks a lot for watching and commenting Axxl_24
Well done 👍
Thank you Roger
big respect for discs restoration
There is nothing to add, just perfect work👍
Glad to hear that you liked it so much darius janulis
Very good restoration, and your beer choices, cheers !
Well totally was not expecting that surprise at the end. Excellent work!
I also feel the original creamy color looks really good.
Excellent restoration as always. Cutting the grinders though....ooof talk about a tedious task. Well done for sticking through it 🙂
Thanks xxPenjoxx
Dude, I was starting to get worried something had happened to you
Glad to see you back 🎉
And I was worried, that noone will show up any longer, when I upload after such a long time
@@NTRprojects I see you've spent the time working on your editing skills, too
Who hasn't experienced coffee grinder grease drama?
Fascinating educational entertaining and a satisfying process to observe .
Immer richtig starke Videos. Kenntnisse auf so vielen Ebenen und gepaart mit dem Fertigungs Know-How - Chapeau!
Great job in both colors! Your attention, respect and editing are so wonderful to watch. Thanks
It is nice to have all the proper equipment for these jobs, coupled with the right skills. The finished product is way better than the factory produced!
I like the green! Well done.
Glad to hear that you liked it so much twerp715
👏👍👏👍👏👍👏👍👏👍👏👍🥃🥃🥃one of the most complete restaurations I have ever seen. Congrats!!!
We always enjoy your videos. Your skills are absolutely amazing and we love how you respect the integrity of each piece you restore. Keep up the great work, Dr. Beer!
Another excellent execution to restore those old grinders. Those of us that know, realize the powder coating was the perfect touch! It will last a
lifetime and has that perfect
shine.
Thanks a lot for watching and commenting so nicely Rickster
First vid of yours I have watched, definitely earns a subscription.
Great. Why do I feel like having coffee and beer now?
I'm espresso snub and I love your work. Both colours of restored machines look very nice, I prefer the green personally. With grinding wheels - I get it - you went with the best possible option, and that was a major PITA.
Thanks a lot for watching and commenting Agi Stan. I had to Google PITA. now I know what it is and I agree 😁
Never thought I’d laugh out loud at a restoration video, but you made me do it twice in this one! The “unspecified grease” formerly known as “coffee machine grease” shout out was pure gold and then the “don’t worry, I made one in the original color” was a joy. I say it was well worth the time and effort that you put in for that. Well done. Bravo. Also, don’t mind the critical people, thanks for all the effort you put into making these videos and keep doing what you love doing.
Dear friend, this is a magnificent work. I finished all my work, took a glass of beer and started watching your video. It was a big surprise to see the result (no spoiler 🙃), and it was an even bigger surprise that you made a beer review right after. I had a great half hour, thank you very much. Aufwiedersehen ✌🏻🍺
Prima. Sehr schön Arbeit. I want to be part of the haters : I was chocked and horrified to watch the state of your bench grinder, this guy is sceaming for a paint job. ;-)
Okay... That's not hate, that's a fact and I will one day give it the treatment it deserves. But I have so many awesome projects lining up. Everytime it's hard to choose the next one
Well, I think the green was an excellent choice; very 1950s. 😄
Thank you my friend
Once again, a beautiful result. Really nice molding work, you made that lid look awesome. I was 2 when that grinder was made, kinda nice to see things my age being restored!😂This was a fun one, Dr. Beer. Thanks for sharing it.
P.S. Great story telling and filming. I felt like I was standing next to you. I really enjoy that.
Thank you so much Vickie. I find your comments an all my favorite channels as well. So nice to see that you enjoy such videos as much as I do
@@NTRprojects ❤
I can almost smell the ground coffee 😊😊😊😊😊 Great vlog!
This was the most beautiful restoration I see on YT. Your care with details is awesome.
Thank you so much 😊
schönste!
Vielen Dank und danke für den Kommentar @dondalrymple5794
You have some skills, awesome project.
Fab as always
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your support and kind words. It means a lot to me that you enjoy my content.
I had another comment prepared but just read about your father's passing. Your words are a fine tribute and I am sure would make him proud. Clear across the ocean, both you and he have touched someone else. Mein allerherzlichstes Beileid und mein tiefstes Mitgefühl gelten Dir und Deiner Familie.
I saw that one too. This one is definitely nicer
Wirklich toller Content und handwerklich wirklich hochwertige Arbeit.....bitte mehr davon
That resin would look a lot clearer with a flame polishing. Great work though, looks amazing.
I did wonder why you chose to change its colour but didn’t dare to post anything like that. 😉
Recasting the hopper and recutting those burrs is truly amazing and top notch!
Thank you!
Wanted to add, I love the paint color! Excellent choice, especially with the high polish bands.
Glad to hear that you liked it so much rudy
My mind is completely blown. This was total bliss to watch. Thank you, and I loved the surprise ending with the twins 😁
This must be your best video so far, and you even restored two of them 🥲 I really liked that you actually disassembled the motor and cleaned it properly and didn’t just pour isopropanol over it 😄 It was a joy to watch, thanks for sharing!
Thank you my man. Hope you're doing well on your current project
@@NTRprojects kind of 😄
Love the colour of the new coffee grinder ❤
Thank you very much Natalie
Beautifully restored! Nice work!
schöne Restaurierung und gute Fähigkeiten, Videobearbeitung ebenfalls hohes Niveau.
Thanks a lot for watching and commenting @PerformanceAA
I LOVE your videos....I could watch them all day. If I were to come across a product you have refurbished, I would buy it with confidence!😊
Thank you very much for the lovely feedback
Hear, hear! Totally agree 👌🙌
Much better color green. Cool restoration :)
Beautiful job, as always. Stunning!
Awesome restorations! Love the color!
Very impressive restoration. And I loved the green colour just as much as the white. Looks as if it would be plenty fine enough for filter or cafetiere. Great job!
Thank you very much!
Both beauties, prefer the green.
I'm still unsure, but I love both
I'm in love with your video!! Everything is beautiful here: the design, the inscriptions, the division of the whole process into parts, the neat and amazing execution of each of these parts.
This is simply incredible, thank you so much for the aesthetic pleasure!
Me who loves restoring old equipment (except my old friend! no, I'm kidding, she's so beautiful) I sat behind my screen and ate some popcorn, thank you.
You should definitely find museums for both of these things!
According to the plate, ESM stands for ironworks Milspe (Eisenwerk Milspe) which belonged to the mining company Schaffgotsch.
I love it that they decided to design and made coffee grinders? Not something you expected from an plant which is more known for heavy iron and steel products. ^^
That's what I was actually wondering about. How did this develop. Would be so interesting to know.
Really impressive stuff! The silicon moulding and resin casting was especially masterful.
Two for the price of one. Yeiii
Who doesn't love a good deal?
