It's 2021 and i obtained one for next to nothing. The thing is a bull and started right up and runs great. I'm going to sand and grind all the rust and give it a new paint job.
It was a great machine, but a good day when I sold it! No more snow for me, and I especially appreciate it now that it's starting to snow in the Northern Hemisphere while I am walking along a sunny beach in New Zealand! :-)
I sold it four years ago. No idea how old it was - old! I bought is used. Worked great. Very powerful. Digs even through hard snow that has melted and frozen again several times, or has been compacted by a snow plow. Ariens is a good brand. I had an Ariens ride on mower as well. Top quality!
I have no idea what an Ariens ST824 cost back in 2014 but in Dec. 2020 they retail for $799. They probably go for less on sale. why would you pay over $550 for a rebuilt rusted unit with minimal (if any) warrantee ?
I bought an ST824 in 1990. It still runs great, it's like a tank. I used it twice so far this year - 2022.The only repair it ever needed was a carb overhaul. Not unusual for a 30 year old engine. The control panel on mine is a bit different. It has 2 reverse speeds, and the throttle is on the engine, not panel. It cost $1299.95 new in 1990, free delivery!
I am not entirely sure why that would matter. And there is not much point thinking about it, since thankfully I now live in Auckland, NZ, which means no snow - ever! 😊🏝️

My Ariens st724 works AMAZING I would by it over and over again it has a 6.5hp motor from harbor freight though
It is a 1980 something
That particular one is an 1983 you can tell by the throttle placement

Pardon my French but the new ones are pieces of shit in my opinion. I have a 89 ariens... and I prefer it over my 30inch 2018

Do the driveway first then do the sidewalk.
