    Still disappointed that Willem Dafoe is being ignored for his brilliant performance in The Lighthouse. I would give Dafoe Tom Hanks spot in the Best Supporting Actress category. Finger's crossed that he still has a chance to get the Oscar nomination, but it might not happen.

    MARGOT ROBBIE WITH TWO FILMS NOMINATED IN THE BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS CATEGORY AND MY JAW DROPPED.
    Another jaw dropping moment is that Greta Gerwig wasn't nominated for Best Director. I also love how they chose Jonathan Pryce over Antonio Banderas and Adam Sandler, but no Robert DeNiro? That's sad. 1917 and Joker dominated the BAFTA's. Wow.

    I can't explain until now why Marriage Story only have 5 nominations including for Driver, ScarJo, Dern and Baumbach from Original Screenplay. They deserved, at least, 3 more nominations like director, score and picture. And Banderas, Bale, Lupita, Erivo, Noah and the females directors was snubbed from the nominees.

    Lol, when the nominations were announced I went to The Guardian to read what they had to say about Joker (as 3/5 reviews they posted were negative) and they didn’t disappoint.
    The gist of what they said was “but didn’t they read our negative reviews?! Didn’t they see our controversy?! This is so surprising!!”
    No, it’s not surprising. Only critics are surprised by its award success because of everything they tried to cultivate before and after the film’s release.
    Its film festival success, Guild success and awards nominations are telling a broader story about what this film actually is, and it’s breaking their hearts.

    I don’t think Scarlett or Margot gave a strong enough performance in Jojo Rabbit or OUAIH to be double nominated this year. If anything, their extra spots should have went to Awkwafina and JLO.

      I have an out there prediction... So I think ScarJo is pretty much the heart and soul of Jojo Rabbit. She’s the loving character that rebels against the Nazis and people cry over her. My guess is that she not only gets nominated, but wins Best Supporting Actress. I’ve heard a few people saying Dern is vulnerable, and that this is more a career Oscar than her actually being the best (kinda like Glenn Close). ScarJo might realise that Zellweger is too strong up there in actress, and decides to go all out in Supporting.

    You keep saying "This was its last chance.", but it's not the case, you know. These awards are all voted based on voters' top five choices. The Oscars are voted on a preferential ballot and number 1 votes count. Portrait of a Lady on Fire in cinematography, the poor dad in Parasite - these are passion picks and they might still get the number 1 votes they need to get nominated. When it comes to cinematography, it doesn't matter that Ford V. Ferrari is everybody's (let's say) fourth pick. It matters here, at the ASC as well. At the Oscars, being number 4 on most ballots means NO nomination.

      @Dan Sandford not strictly true. Diversity is good, it keeps things fresh and brings interesting perspectives. However this forced diversity nonsense is tiring. Britain is indeed majority white yet media nowadays seemingly doesn't represent this distribution. That's fine, it would be awkward to have a precise amount of diversity according to population census but it does mean that it shouldn't be unexpected that white people are represented most in our country

    Regarding BAFTA: You consider 1917 the objective front-runner. The film lacks screenplay, editing and acting at the BAFTAs.

    My prediction is that '1917' can't win the BAFTA for Best Film, because it's not nominated for Film Editing and Original Screenplay. There's going to be an upset in that category - however, it can win Outstanding British film.

    I still think that Song Kang-ho has a good chance. I do not have a ton of faith in Hopkins because it seems that the foreign award shows (Golden Globes and Baftas) LOVE Two Popes, and the American award shows (The Guilds and Critics Choice) aren’t super crazy for it.

      @Diego Pisfil I was so pissed when Mcdormand beat Margot at the Academy Awards. For a start, Margot's performance was very nuanced and believable, a career best. Mcdormand's was good but pretty monotonous and repetitive. Secondly, she already had an Oscar anyway.
