  • I bought a couple of great cacti this week and I wanted to show you how I am growing them in my cactus garden. Obviously before I do anything I have to propagate them to turn my 2 plants into many more!
The Cholla cactus is a vigorous grower and im excited to see how I can shape it in the future. I also couldn't go wrong with the Opuntia because of its iconic shape and look.

I just bought Cylindropuntia plant. Mine is big so I’m gonna take some cuttings. It is best to take a cutting out a limb from the bottom of the branch joints. However cutting it in half it will still propagate. Also here’s a tip if you want US to branch out as you know if you cut a section from a side branch it’ll sprout new growth another directions.

I live here in Eastern Washington, Zone 5, and have a three foot Cholla that is now my Christmas tree cactus, lights and all, and our temps get down to single digits, and it is still going great guns! I am trying to make my yard into a Cacti/Succulent garden area! I am specific on the hardiness, and if they don't make it through the winter, out they go! So far so good! I have only five Hens/Chicks that didn't make it! So far I have about nine varieties of cacti and six or seven hens and chicks!....I'm still looking! Good luck on your garden! Now try them outside in the winter!

Before I watch this video, I still don't know, if after cutting the cactus, we need to dry it for several days. I put it in the soil after i cut it, and have been on the soil for one day. The question is, whether my cactus will survive if I take it out from the soil after one day, and then follow the normal procedures (dried it up to several days)?

    • @ExpeditionHomestead
