I truly love seeing your plants!!! This video kinda got me searching into Cacti 🌵 and Euphorbia again!! I have a Euphorbia Lactea Ghost 👻 and the key is HIGH LIGHT! So the new growth comes in a hot pinky color! Lots of light exposure! And MORE WATER than cacti!
Thanks for sharing! Share more! LOVE LOVE LOVE YOUR VIDEOS !!!
perfect, thank you Chloe!! I am going to move the euphorbia to higher light
I think it's helpful when you mention the lighting and watering frequency when you show us the plants, thanks Fern!
Currently watching this and at the variegated bear paw part, and I remember I found out about bear paw succulents after a video of yours back last year - and a few months later I came across both the green and the variegated varieties just casually at like a DIY store and got both and love them!
I have them, too!
If you’re open to video ideas i thought it would be cool to see your friend’s houseplant tours, like maybe that friend that gifted you that monkey tail! Would die to see the momma plant of that monkey tail ugh
sadly the large piece I have was the last of hers 😩 the plant was destroyed in the heat wave and she was sooo kind to gift me what was left of it.
When summer comes, you should cut the top section of your euphorbia ghost, leave it to harden for a few days and pot.
You will have 2 plants, but the top section will hopefully stay ghost white.
Try not to put it in direct sun as I think the brown is a type of hardening due to sunburn, as there is little chlorophyll in the plant.
That's what I'd do.
Hope this helps.
Jo from NZ
Thank you for giving "epiphytic cacti" Channel a shout-out! Epiphytic cactus are so much fun and so easy to grow once you get the hang of it! They grow so fast if you put them outside for the summer and then they give themselves and you a break during the winter. So weird so fun so low maintenance!
Thanks for always sharing your watering sched for your show and tell plants! So helpful!
You are so welcome!
I have my ghost euphorbia under a grow light and it's doing amazing. So I'd say it is light related.
I'm no euphorbia expert, but I think it was you who said they are not cacti and need watering more often so I started to do that and saw much better results. Mine was in a South window and I watered it probably once a week and it grew like a weed even in the winter.
Ah good to know ! Just got a baby
i love your updated collection so much, focusing on the ones i love is something im trying to do in the new year!
thank you so much 💚 and yes, it feels so good to be passionate about all of my plants again!
I think your white ghost problem is light related. This Euphorbia is lacking in chlorophyll. I think if you put it under your grow light it will do better. Good luck 🤘🌱💚
You are probably right! It can only be water, light , soil or amendments like fertilizer. So it probably is light related. If it’s getting light .. move it back. If it’s not getting enough move it closer 🤷♀️
I was thinking the same thing, it seems only few inches on the bottom have some green… some virus or fungus may have attacked the plant due to insufficient loght
@@succulentlivingbymarija8872 have you had it a year?! Or since last summer?! Could it have had fungus prior to getting it?! I got a moonshine sanseveria that had fungus when I got it.. sprayed fungicide on it.. it’s still “damaged “ but hasn’t spread.
@@liskalangdon6576 typically doesn’t spread after treatment. Mine was under light and not that pale but I had this problem with few other euphorbias
My Euphorbia Ghost took two years to show any growth, now doing beautifully. Have in east window and lights. You’re killing it ✌️❤️
I love my variegated bearpaw! It bloomed this last summer for me and it was so cute and the blooms smelled like honey for me 👀. I wanna get the fully green one soon.
I just made my first ever chunky mix thanks to you! I may explore cactus world now, I have very few I find them so slow at growing lol
They can be, but I find they can also really take off in the summer if they get adequate sun. I love how many different varieties there are, and how low maintanence they are. Definitely recommend trying some out :)
I live in an extremely different climate than you do where is very hot but I think the advice still stands for the euphorbia plant issues I have discovered that they actually love a lot more water than you would think. But maybe try watering more once summer time comes around lol. Our summers here get really hot and stay in the 100 degrees Fahrenheit. I’m a classic over waterer so mine was staying tiny for a long time but I put mine outside last summer and watered it everyday instead of every month and it more than doubled in size. I trust you know your plant best but more water and more light is my best advice. Good luck!
i love when you include pictures or clips of when you first got the plants! i watched almost all of your videos in the past couple of weeks but i don’t remember how each plant looked like when you welcomed them in your collection, so that’s cool to see a side by side :)
Ahh thank you! Glad you liked that 😃
I keep my monkey tail cactus outside year-round (granted I am in FL), but it gets late afternoon sun and is on my front porch, (East facing), as long as you keep them away from direct sun (12-3ish) when the sunlight is most harsh they’ll thrive!! I’ve read that if you mist them they become more hairy!! I love your channel and that your cacti/succulents are getting the spotlight! I started collecting aroids and still love them but am mostly interested in cacti/euphorbia/succulents now 😁
Oooo great tip - thank you! So jealous that you’re in FL 🌞
Hey Fern! Fellow Canadian here, I think you are right about the dragon fruit cactus. I recently chopped one up to propagate and that's exactly what the new growth looks like, they are so cute and do amazing under grow lights!
thankssssss fern, i've been waiting this video for while ❤🌵
You're so welcome! hope you enjoyed :)
Love your collection especially that monkey tail. I just added a euphorbia cactus bones to my collection. The swirl of green and yellow is so cool.
I’m so happy I was able to catch up on some videos I missed of yours today! Can’t wait for more!
❤️❤️❤️
ive been WAITING for this one!!!🤩
ahh yay!! I'm happy to deliver 🙌 filming this made me so excited for the warmer weather, when these guys will flourish!
I love your cacti/succ collection. That monkey tail is my favourite. It's so cool to have a lifelong heirloom plant. The Mother light is amazing! I have the stand-up kind. I would never have found anything like that if it weren't for you🙂 I am really thinking about the same grow light system you have just for my few cacti/succs. Fun video as usual🥰
Thank you Olof!! 💚💚
I love your collection videos so much! 💚 I got a monkey tail cactus this year too and I’m invested in the marathon of growing it out 😅 I got mine from Crystal Star Nursery and Crystal told me it enjoys being outside in the summer and will encourage longer hair growth!
ahhh perfect!! I didn't even know CSN sold them - how cool!
Thank you Fern. Great video🌵
I pot cactuses with similar watering schedule together and it looks beautiful
Thanks for sharing 💗 beautiful cactus 🌵
Love the monkey tail! Good luck with your big euphorbia!
Epyphitic Cacti is a fantastic channel. I love jungle cactus especially rhipsalis with their curtain growth and blooms - they grow so well inside and outside in Tasmania and my collection bumped up to 30+ over the past few months. They propagate easily and are relatively inexpensive down here. I'm now on the hunt for ' mature second-hand older plants from long time collectors'. Rhipsalis paceco-leonis might be the name of your R. paradoxa 'minor'???
I don't have that type of euphorbia but my euphorbia milk tree was doing really really bad as well. I know that it has petals so it's different in that sense but I had no idea how thirsty they are. Once I started watering regularly it took off. No more crisping or petals dropping. I water it as soon as the soil is completely dry. Again, it could just be the type I have. It is incredible though, I wish I had one. haha
Also, thank you for showing the product you are using for your thrip outbreak. I haven't seen the larva on my leaves since I applied it the day after you posted that video and I've had them for roughly 7 months now. We just have nothing for it in Canada and I didn't know that dr. doom existed, fingers crossed they stay gone.
Hope you’re well! Your plants are always amazing! You’re a great plant mama!!
You’re an inspiration you a lot of plant people and future plant people! You should take pride in that!
Hi there I don't want to recommend my channel or anything but I'm a newish plant t youtuber and if you was looking for more planty videos I woukd really appreciate any support 😊
Hey Fern! I live in the pnw as well and have a var Bear paw. I put it under a strong grow light and it grows pretty steadily. Definitely recommend doing that. Love your videos 💖🪴
How beautiful it is! Here in my country, Uruguay, it is difficult to obtain... I was recently able to obtain the spiral cactus, it cost me a lot. I was able to bring it from Argentina! Greetings cute!!! ✌🏼💗
Your monkey tail cactus is soo cute!! I keep thinking that it’s going to break because it’s growing soo long and low!!! Can’t wait until it blooms!!!❤️💚❤️💚
I managed to root a really stubborn melanochrysum cutting using your video on perlite propagation! It worked really great and it grew roots in no time!
Get well soon-wishes to Olive
that is amazing to hear - yay! perlite saves lives. thank you so much for sending olive your love x
I recently found some desert roses 🌹 on Etsy , I had never seen them before.
They are from the Canary Islands and go dormant in the heat - closing up and turning pink looking just like a rose bud .
I have quite a few now and they open up and grew once I watered them . Definitely interesting .
I never saw a monkey 🙈 tail until yours So cool looking !
Oh girl loves the video can't can't can't wait to see the hoyas thanks Fern appreciate all your hard work
Thank you amanda 💚
Your shorter haircut looks so good on you! Love your videos.❤️
Hi there I don't want to recommend my channel or anything but I'm a newish plant t youtuber and if you was looking for more planty videos I woukd really appreciate any support 😊
I have 4 monkey tail stems 🌵and I love them, I got 3 more on my birthday
I had it outside this year to get more sun. This help fattened the arms
which grew in but were thinner. Also think it was mainly working on the roots
Planning to repot together next year.🌵🤗🥰
Aw I loved this video!! I am in love with my haworthia Cooperi, my lithops, my mammillaria plumosa, and my baby toes succulent! Definitely look up pics because they are all awesome!! Maybe you can add them to your collection 👀
Love the variegated bear paw.
I like Fern’s variety of plants but cacti are my fave tbh & ahhh this was a gr8 watch
ahhh yay 💚
Cuties!! My only succulent/cactus is a regular bear paw. I would love some more fuzzy guys though
Loved this video! I’ve been waiting for you to make it since your last one that I also loved 🙂 I would love to see a collection video about your Hoya collection!
Perfect! Thanks for watching x
Nice collection of cactus
Watching your video for the first time.
Thanks for sharing 😊
Great video! Love these collections vids! XX
Thank you so much x
I’ve never really had a ton of success with cactus but I’d like to put some big ones on my porch eventually so I should probably try to figure it out
I always wanted the bear paw plant I totally agree they are so cute and fuzzy. Not a common find. The Euphorbia ghost one of my wishlist plant and the Euphorbia variegated cactus aswell. Another rare find been seeing so many planty community have one. I think it could be browing if is not rotten or have root rot then could be burn from too much high sun. Another reason cold be too cold aswell and draught area. I love your money tail aswell I don’t see anyone else having one another hard find. You seem to be able to get rare plants. Not fond on the split growth at the end though.
Hi pretty! 💗 I love your collection, it's almost as beautiful as you are, those eyes hypnotize!!! 😍💕 I also have a collection, my favorites are the double crown of Christ, the black prince, the monkey tail and the spiral cactus! 🌵Greetings from Uruguay ✌🏼🇺🇾
I have always been into succulents but discovered my l Iove for cacti because of you, I love your videos fern!!!
Awe!! That’s fantastic 😃 thanks for watching x
I feel your pain. I also live in the pacific northwest and struggle with getting sunlight for my plants in the winter. Might need to move for that sole reason lol.
Amazing collection 😍 ❤ I soooo loved your old bear paw it was sooo cute , also I would love to see a philodendron collection too 😊
your euphorbia ghost might be just browning to protect itself from too much sun,or "scarring" I think the windowsill might be too much direct light for it, maybe placing it a little bit away from the window might help!
oh i love yours jungle cacti! i have some holidays cactus with different bloom colors, hope one day i get the variegated too
I think your ghost euphorbia is corking, it happens to cacti when they mature to protect the plant so it can get larger. I actually have never seen a euphorbia cork before, only cacti, but I tried researching it a bit and i think they do (?). It's not a bad thing unless you don't like how it looks, you can always cut those bits off and maybe start a cutting of your main plant so you have a younger one that won't start corking for years.
Such a cute collection! Love the variety. My favorite cactus in my collection is for sure my boobie cactus
ahh yes - love that one! 🍒
Weirdly enough I reported all my cacti and succulents last night into bigger terracotta pots. I also made my own potting mix and added orchid bark to see how they'll like it.
perfect! it must feel satisfying to have that done 🙌
@@wildfern it was! The pots all look cohesive and really cute together now.
Euphorbia ghost plant may have some brown spots from sunburn but this is little different. Sometimes euphorbias can get fungus and have brown spots spreading. If you have pure neem oil make a mixture with warm water and spray on those spots and watered with it. It should stop spreading. You can always behead top and root healthy looking top and after doing surgery on it maybe bottom stem can grow new branches too 😊
Thank you for this 🙏 I may try to chop and prop in the spring…
I love my monkey tail cactuses… they grow so quickly for me! My friend that gave them to me said they are not toooo picky with their conditions. Just don’t have them outside in near freezing conditions :-)
I’m not sure if the little cactus in with your stapelia is a dragon fruit since dragon fruits usually get very thin and lanky when they’re grown indoors, but it’s definitely either a hylocereus/selenicereus or something in a closely related genus. If it ever blooms that would be a great indicator of its true identity ✨🌵✨
Hope your stapelia will bloom, see what color awaits, fun🌵
I love how she always says this is my favorite plant cause its like why would you own it if you didn't love it
All of my cactus and succulents (most) are out on my front porch. I can’t really give advice on the care as mine are cared for in a completely different way then yours!! I bring my succulents, aloe etc inside if there will be a hard freeze.. so maybe 2-3 nights so far lol!!!
I got a variegated bear paw a couple of weeks ago 🙌🏼
Love all of your videos, thank you for being real! I’m receiving a monkey tail cutting this week and was wondering if you could tell me the best way to grow it, specifically now that we are into autumn? Should I water it well and then just leave it till spring or water it like monthly?
I was thinking about your euphorbia possibly corking, buti couldn't see any of the browning at the base (?). It could be sun burn, especially the ghost, since it only seems to be affecting the older bits. When they leave greenhouse environments they have to acclimate to higher "harsh" light which could be why the upper ones haven't been as affected. Not sure though...
Great video, you have several cacti I’d like to get a hold of ❤️
Try increasing the light on your euphorbia - I had a sort of similar issue with my euphorbia trigona rubra, had it in a corner of the room getting what I thought was a decent blast of bright morning light but it wasn’t doing much and was looking like it was drying out (partly because I wasn’t watering like I should have been).
Moved it under a (weak) grow light and it literally took off over the summer to the point where it got too tall for my shelf lol. The one stalk (is it a stalk🤔) that I had to chop since it got soft has now grown branched arms, plus arms grew on my other two stalks 😁
He’s now directly in front of the actual window and I swear he smiled and waved at me the other day 👋🏾🪴 I have a couple of brown patches on his body from the hard times but there’s sooooo much new growth and leaves above that now I’m just 🤗
Thank you Nina!! I think I am going to try moving him and see what happens 🙏
My favorite cactus that I own are either my boobie cactus. My Rainbow hedgehog cactus or my twisted Peruvian apple cactus.. spiral cactus are VERY cool and I’m into crested euphorbias or crested cactus!!
Oh I loooove spiral cactus! I need another one for sure.
The Euphorbia Ritchii variegated is fab, I need one of those in my life 😂🥰
Can't wait for an updated Hoya collection video 🤩
Hi there I don't want to recommend my channel or anything but I'm a newish plant t youtuber and if you was looking for more planty videos I woukd really appreciate any support 😊
On your Ghost, you may want to cut those arms off and sprinkle some cinnamon on them. It could be a sign of rot. If you see rot going thru the cuttings, lop off the top and cut off the rot and let it dry off (wear gloves for the milky substance to avoid irritation). Then once the end piece is dry, stick it in dry soil and let it sit a week before watering. You may also want to check out ‘Desert Plants of Avalon’ channel. She is a wonderful lady chock full of information 🥰
Good luck with your Ghost and keep us updated.
love that the bear paw smells like honey! There's a Popcorn Plant (not sure what the real name is) that has yellow and white flowers that look and SMELL like popcorn.
Whaaat! So cool!
I would think the browning on the white ghost is viral or fungal or bacterial maybe? Mine is in a sunny window and gets watered once a month and does really good. The only other thing I can think of is if the higher humidity is causing problems. It's really dry here.
I would say sun , and heat . Lots lots of light. Mine was in about 8 hours a day of direct sunlight outside . Now it’s not getting as much but still a few hours, it definitely slowed its growth though.
Love this most of my plants are cactus and euphorbias 🌵
Hi there I don't want to recommend my channel or anything but I'm a newish plant t youtuber and if you was looking for more planty videos I woukd really appreciate any support 😊
Love the collection. Faves are the V Opuntia, V Bear Paw and of course the Dragon Bone.
Hi there I don't want to recommend my channel or anything but I'm a newish plant t youtuber and if you was looking for more planty videos I woukd really appreciate any support 😊
@@MaisieVine oh me too. Check out mine too.
@@sasharandomly4221 will do 😃
That euphorbia ritchiei variegata 😍 new plant for my wishlist
Love the monkey tail cactus
I moved my white variegated euphorbia to crazy strong full sun and it completely took off and grew heaps of arms, so I think the pale euphys like a lot of sun. Mine has orangey browning on base which i hope is just some kind of callous from the stem maturing, but 🤷🏻♀️ idk, it seems fine otherwise.
Hmm! I am going to put it outside once it’s warm enough 🤞
I have a rat tail cactus that bloomed prior to my getting it. I am certainly hoping it blooms for me this summer 🤞
🤞🤞🤞
You’ve had me sniffing my bear paws 😂😂 nothing at all 😂
Darn!! I wonder why some of them have no scent
you very recently inspired me to add a baby variegated christmas cactus to my collection! the listing says it will have red blooooms! sooo exciting 😁
ohhh how exciting!! I'm so jealous
@@wildfern i would definitely be willing to trade or just share a propagation down the line! ☺️
I wonder if E. White Ghost may appreciate some sunlight, if you have a place that receives it. Though you may need filtered sun to begin with.
Hi, the name of the Aloe is Aloe Cape Ferox.
one of the stems on my bear paw succulent just started to droop and I had a few of the paws fall off. Do you know what's causing that?
I have little monkey tail plant 🪴.
I should put her in the growth light 💡
how r u feeling with your plants, i just did another down size, need the head space
Thanks for this video! That monkey tail is fascinating, I've never seen one. Won't
that look amazing with a bunch of them in a pot? Be sure to update how they grow.
Yes, it is surely going to look amazing as a full pot one day. I can’t wait 😃 thank you for watching!
I think on your Euphorbia there is a name for the browning, I was reading an article that said it was normal. I think it was called something like hatching .....anyway I was looking up info on my Candelabra Cactus that was doing the same. So I left it. Seems to be doing well.
Is it just me or was Fern feeling up on every single CACTUS 🤣
monkeytail cactus is freakin awesome. ive never gave them thought,,,,cuz i never ever see them. when i see one, im so getting it.
Ive always loved the look of the monkey tail cactus, but I'm also terrified of cactus because of the spines. I always have some Final Destination type of vision that its gonna fall off of a shelf and land on my face or ill fall on it or something hahahaha... anyways watching you actually touch it makes me wonder... is it actually a cactus? does it have spines?
Yay!! A new video from you 😁 perfect distraction from the vaccine side effects 💖💚
awww feel better soon!
@@wildfern thank you it means so much ☺️
Unfortunately succulents hate me!!! I cannot keep them alive. I would love to add some cacti to my collection, but I don’t have any south facing windows in my house. I don’t think I could give them the proper lighting to keep them happy. Your bear paw is adorable 💚💚💚
Awe! Thanks for watching even though you don’t collect them 💚
What soil mix do you use for your cacti and succulents?
Does anyone have more info on what she called a “prickly or mountain aloe” I was recently given a few looking varieties of this plant And have yet to been able to identify
My variegated bear paw grows super fast in my IKEA greenhouse cabinet! :-)
oh crazy! I didn't think they'd appreciate the humidity - good to know.
I'm not a big cactus fan, but I love the Pokemon one 😂
it's so cute 🥺
Pretty lady and pretty succulents? Sold.
Hola 💕🌿I have a monkeys tail it's long and growing many many new tails BUT NOT getting hairy what ya think ?
Is it fuzzy like my smaller ones? I think the long yellow hair comes with maturity. I'm not sure though, I'm no expert! Hopefully I will learn more once I grow mine longer :)
Since the arms aren’t quishy I think maybe the arms are sunburned. Euphorbia are not actually cacti and prefer lower light than traditions cacti. Stapelioids too
