Learn How To Manage Opioid Toxicity in Acutely Unwell Patient
Where you are: You are night doctor on duty in the busy Acute Surgical Unit.
Who the patient is: Mr Davidson is a 67 year old gentleman who was admitted to hospital 2 days ago due to bowel obstruction secondary to bowel cancer. He underwent uneventful emergency laparotomy. You are bleeped by the staff nurse as Mr Davidson is not responding.
Other information about the patient: His observation chart shows that he had been stable during his hospitalisation. On arrival you found that Mr Davidson is not responding.
What you must do: Please see the patient and manage his acute issues. You are expected to manage him and perform the necessary investigations. At two minutes warning discuss the management plan with the examiner.
