    RECIPE-
    Fruit Roll Ups:
    2 1/2 - 3 cups ripe or slightly ripe raspberries
    2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
    Honey to taste
    Preheat oven to lowest temperature. Puree all ingredients in a food processor until smooth. Pour onto a baking sheet lined with plastic wrap, or a silicone baking mat, spread to 1/8″ thick. Place in oven and bake for 6-8 hours, until center is not tacky anymore.
    Goldfish:
    8 ounces, weight Sharp Cheddar Cheese, Shredded
    4 Tablespoons Butter, Cut Into Cubes
    1 cup Flour
    1/2 tsp Salt
    2 Tablespoons Cold Water
    1. Pulse everything (except water) together in the food processor until the dough resembles coarse sand.
    2. Pulse in water, 1 tablespoon at a time.
    3. Remove dough from the processor, wrap in plastic, and chill for 20 minutes.
    4. Roll out the dough and cut into desired shapes. Place on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet.
    5. Bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes, or until crispy.
    Fruit Snacks:
    2/3 cup fresh lemon juice or fresh orange juice.
    2/3 cup frozen or fresh berries (raspberries, blueberries, strawberries are all great.)
    1 - 2 Tbs honey
    5 Tbs gelatin
    1. Pour juice and berries into a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally until berries soften.
    2. Add honey and stir.
    3. Turn the heat off, and quickly whisk in gelatin a little at a time. Whisk vigorously until completely incorporated. Mix the gelatin very gradually to avoid any lumps.
    4. Puree mixture using a blender (my magic bullet works great for this! Just be sure to cool slightly before moving over.)
    5. Pour into a 8 x 8 or 9 x 9 glass dish. Refrigerate until set (30 minutes to an hour). Cut in small squares.

    For the fruit snacks, if you want them to resemble more of the traditional kind, I would suggest adding more gelatin. It'll make it more like a gummy candy, and less like jello.
    I can't wait to make these. I'm not a parent, but I'm always looking for some good snacks to make as a college student on the run instead of eating the premade junk food.

    A quick tip; say to your child that (s)he can choose how many vegetables (s)he want. For example; do you want 3 baby carrots or 5? Then your child thinks (s)he can make the most profit because (s)he will choose 3, but the quantity doesn't matter cause now (s)he will eat vegetables. Or what my mom used to do is just let me not leave the table untill I eat all my vegetables😂😖 Excuse me for my English I know it sucks😂💝

    pro-tip for the gelatin in the fruit snacks! Reserve some of the lemon juice to hydrate the gelatin (let it sit for around 5 minutes) then add a little bit of the hot strawberry liquid to it to melt it a fair bit. stir for a moment, then add it into the main mix. This should eliminate lumps completely, without the strain of whisking like a madman

    • @himynameishelen

      It's not so much that it will kill you as that it has a lot of allergens in it so it makes children more likely to be allergic to other things, especially if it's not locally produced honey

      +Bethany Edwards +Caren Collins I don't have kids but have heard about these methods from friends - have you tried putting some veggies in a fruit smoothie? for example kale or other greens, if you don't put too much in and make the smothie sweet enough with fruit and maybe some honey, the kids won't even taste it, plus the colour looks cool :) And personally I would be happy that my kids wouldn't like meat, there are so many plant options to replace the protein and iron from meat, such as chickpeas and other legumes :)

    • @JDXS448
      @JDXS448 Před 8 lety +3

      You could get your child involve in making a smoothie. When they think it's fun to put things in a blender and look at the veggies go round and round, they are more likely to drink it. My husband's niece won't eat anything but peanut butter and jelly sandwich and her mom was very frustrated. I took her to my kitchen and have her make with me a blueberry banana spinach smoothie with almond milk and chia seed. I even let her play with a few of the chia seed like squeezing them in her hand, she drank the entire cup of smoothie and wanted more

    • @JDXS448
      @JDXS448 Před 8 lety +9

      Don't put your kid on a vegetarian diet unless you have spoken with a registered dietitian, 2 years old is still pretty young, they need their complete protein and fat for growth. A lot of vegans and vegetarians suffer from iron deficiency and vitamin b12 deficiency because the iron in fruits and veggies aren't as easily absorb in fruits and veggies as in meat. Adult vegetarians and vegans have to take supplements but since your kid is only 2, finding the right supplements is difficult, we don't want them to overdose.
