  • On May 09, 2015, I travelled on American's first 787 between Chicago and Dallas. It turned into a very interesting flight. It was a very bumpy ride and the weather actually closed down DFW for a few hours during the flight, so we had to divert to Tulsa to refuel before making it to Dallas.
During the delay in Dallas, the crew was fantastic and gave first class passengers a tour of the cockpit and also the crew rest area. We actually had a great time and you could really tell the crew was proud of their new plane.
I hope you enjoy the video and comment / "thumbs up" below.

I retired from American Airlines as a Purser/In Flight Trainer. I was based at DFW and later SAN until I retired. I'm very proud of our f/a's from AA...they are the best!! I recognized the voice of the #1 F/A as I trained her ! :) Very nice post! :) And thank you for flying American Airlines!!!!!

I've had my experiences with the DFW weather. From an hour delay to a 7 hour delay arriving back home in Chicago at 12 in the morning. I avoid traveling to Dallas.. Unless I really need to go there. Great video by the way.

as a United flyer having had reverse seats for the better part of 7 years - you'll get used to them relatively quickly, and find that they are actually a nicer way to fly due to the tilt of the aircraft in cruise. I liked the custom-designed seat AMR designed for the 787 / 2-class 777 (this work started under AMR), but I like the 3-class 77W J seat more - it's larger in every dimension.

I remember when American Airlines had a huge fleet of ATR-72 turbo prop aircraft grounded at Ohare in the winter in the early 90's after a nose dive crash of one of their ATR's in a corn field due to heavy icing on the wings. They later replaced them with the Saab turboprops that can handle icy weather and sent those ATR's down to Florida for warmer Caribbean routes

    • @georgelurye6274

+Shukhrat Arifdjanov This aircraft is used for international flights. Sometimes, the schedule is made so that it arrives into one airport A from overseas, but is needed to fly out of another airport B later in the day to another overseas destination. That aircraft is then scheduled to fly a domestic route from A to B (usually two big cities with high demand anyway). It's called re-positioning. The Business Class seat is then sold and ticketed as Domestic First Class and gets the domestic level of service. It's a very nice upgrade when you can get it, but it's not very often.
I have a flight coming this year on this same aircraft from Chicago to Los Angeles.

Okay people And John Nolewajka , First of all b787-8 has e about a 8900 NM range on it with a full passenger complement on board . Second i live in Austin Tx where everyday for the past few years British Airways Flight from London UK TO Austin TX usa Flight no 190 and 191 . LHR to AUS & AUS TO LHR and i have not heard that the flights have every had to divert to another airport to get fuel . thoes AA pilots really messed up this trip. That's Cool it could possibly make form LAX to SYD but i doubt it .It to long of a trip Darien K made a great point how ever The the crew that assigned to the 787-8 will go to Seattle WA for there training and rating first then they fly back to the UK and make livery sometimes they will fly with the aircraft back and receive it when they land. i have a father who was a pilot in the USAF.SO someone who flew this flight need to get reevaluated and and have a couple more check rides. After i watched this video i just had to comment.

    • @georgelurye6274
      @georgelurye6274 Před 8 lety +1

+David Pembleton Aircraft only take on as much fuel as needed. No such thing as "fill it up." Fuel weighs a lot, so the more you have on board, the heavier the aircraft total weight and the more fuel you end up using to get around. Thus, in the interest of saving a few thousand dollars to tens of thousands per flight, the planes fly with the amount of fuel needed to get from A to B plus some reserve. That reserve varies on destination, flight duration, local aviation laws and options for diversion. For example, if you're flying out to an island where the nearest other airport is a couple of hours away (say Fiji or Reykjavik or the Maldives), your reserve will be larger than say if you're flying to Dallas, Los Angeles or New York, since there are numerous airports nearby to divert to.
Then, if it is a weather delay and the ops center doesn't know how long the delay will be, they're not just going to fly there and circle around in bad weather patterns for hours until they are cleared to land. They divert, take on some extra fuel and then when things clear up, they go. Dallas sees a lot of very strong thunderstorms and micro-bursts in the summertime, which are good to avoid at any altitude, so the diversion was smart.
I live in NYC where we get hundreds to thousands of international flights and tens of thousands of domestic flights each day between all the airports and diversions happen all the time. Newark Liberty and LaGuardia are especially prone to weather diversions.
No one messed up this trip.

From what I have read, airlines want smaller more fuel efficient planes so they can have more point to point flights vs having huge planes that all go to a hub with other connecting flights.

Good crew I bet TULSA was shocked to get a 787 I know they do not have the gate space for a 787. but good call for safety. Taking pictures and all since they prolly wont get another one plus the length of the runway too I am sure was a factor. Don't speed up the footage next time./

bobduvar yes, that is actually a normal practice for FIRST CLASS passengers. when youre on the ground waiting for fuel, it isnt that big of a deal. why? these flights carry air marshals. air marshals are armed federal agents, one in first class, another in coach. they blend in very well, only the crew knows who are the air marshals. the two air marshal are ONLY to speak and acknowledge each other as air marshals only in the event of an emergency. they might speak, but it would be a normal pleasantry, like hello, or, how are you doing? being nonchalant. what that means is the air marshal also got a tour of the cockpit. more than likely, the marshal was in the cockpit the whole time while others were getting their tour. so, no worries brother.

John Nolewajka great video, brother. this is hands down one of the best, period. i really appreciate your penchant for the little tiny details you posted. i am subscribing to you, hoping for me of these in the future, of other aircraft. its amazing how quick and and quiet those things beauty are. so much better than a scairbus. american horsepower at its finest.

Anyone can visit the cockpit on the ground when parked up, you just gotta ask the pilots and cabin crew. Don't be so shocked I live in the UK and do it almost every flight i fly on

+bobduvar You can only visit the cockpit before or after the flight, never during flight. You can't do much harm while you're parked at the gate. It happens all over the world, including the EU.

Herringbone backwards seat ... how is your neck after that ? I personally hate it because it depreciates the privilege of having a window seat.
    Thanks for video though

+Saint Lazare I get the same seat because I can look at the wing and engine the whole flight. It's beautiful.

Beautiful bird, but the new AA livery is awful. They should put the old Lightning Bolt on one of these new ones.

Great video! IMO, good accommodations, but not particularly great. The seat is almost the same as an economy seat, the only difference being a surrounding plastic cubicle, and a little more privacy. The food and drink were really not much different than coach or economy. Keeping in mind that it was a short flight, if I would have known what to expect, I would not have sprung for the first class ticket. What American should have done was offer a first or business class experience for all ticket holders at the same price. .

+Clifford Bodine Economy seats are 17.2" wide compared to 20" wide in Business. You have no neighbor. You get free noise-canceling headphones. You get lie-flat seat that reclines in unlimited ways. You don't even get a meal in Economy on that flight. You get 2 free checked bags. You get priority check-in, security and boarding privileges. You get a 100% bonus in frequent flyer miles. Shall I continue?

+Quinn Hughes I'm sorry to say Quinn, but I beg to differ. The Airbus A380 and Airbus A350 are known for its silence Roll Royce's engine. Unless you can prove to me with fact or an actually link that gives informative comparisons, I would have to disagree.

wel'l have to look at what type of RR engines these planes are using and see which engine type is quieter than the other.
