The best revenge of them all is when Beast kills a few of the mutants, avenging Beauty. I'm sure my neighbors heard my "fuck yeah!" when I saw those scenes.
I was 15 when I saw this movie, in theatres, with my uncle and younger sister. She insisted on coming. It was the first time I saw a horror movie that had me turning away as much as this one did, but I couldn't help but be fascinated by what I was seeing. It was such an intense and unforgiving experience. And by the end, none of us could help SCREAMING at the screen (yes, in a theatre) for the hero to prevail. Excellent movie.
This is why cinemas are hesitant to let teenagers into their R rated movies.

I had a similar experience. Me and a few buddies wanted to see this, so my friend talked his mom into taking us to the theaters. Holy shit, this movie was FUCKED. It was the most fucked up sequence when the dad's tied up burning alive, the daughter getting SA'd, the mutant dude breast feeds and then kills that chick and the mom , and then kidnaps the baby. I was like what the fuck! My friend's mom got up and left the theater and went to sit out in the car for the rest of the movie. We were all a little traumatized after watching this one lol.

A Perfect Remake Alexandre Aja took the original concept from Cravens script and evolved the story to improve respect and modernise the premise. The make up work by KNB was superb and the location of Quazozate Morroco was a brilliant choice! ❤
The buzzing sound that movie has is traumatizing all on its own.

Yup. It’s the first thing you hear in the movie and it’s almost like a warning saying that what you’re about to watch is super fucked up lol

This remake and High Tension are brutal, love them both. Aja is a great director when it comes to grit.
LOVE HIGH TENSION! That's what got me into French horror.
High Tension is a wilde ride with an atrociously idiotic ending. But yeah, still own the 4k :) Worth it for the intense ride!
@interdimensionalsteve8172 yeah that was ending was completely unnecessary. It was scarier with the way it was playing out before all of that.
I Love Both The Original And The Remake. Something about the remake though, probably just the right age and still could be “scared” by movies… One Of my favorite horror movies of all time
Doug is up there with Arkin from the Collector as one of the most bad ass protagonists in a horror movie.
It’s a shame that majority of horror films don’t use “final boys”

I loved the remake. The nerd badass was a great twist and a lot of dialogue. Cool traps and doggo for the win
People can say what they want about the early 2000s. But, horror was on another level during that time period. None of that stuff would be allowed to be made today. Not in the mainstream at least.

I love Wes Craven, but I didn't like The Hills Have Eyes. It was boring and drawn out. The remake was intense as hell, though.

That's how I feel about Tobe Hooper's Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Maybe I saw it too late in life at 13 years old in 1990 (Started watching horror movies at 4). By then I had see all the Halloweens, Friday the 13ths, ANOES, and others that were released up until that point. And a hillbilly special ed guy with a chainsaw didn't scare me at all. Only ONE person is killed with a chainsaw🥱. Especially the family hootin' and hollering at the dinner table was over the top to me.

But the 2003 remake was WAYYYY better! And R. Lee Ermy was at his absolute 2nd best behind Full Metal Jacket.

I started watching horror really young too but I never really got into those kind of classics till I was older. Of course I loved evil dead and whatnot cuz they're so fast paced and crazy funny. But I'd think if you enjoyed the first Halloween you'd enjoy TCM

The loud pulsating sound was such a genius idea. It fits the theme perfectly and it’s the very first thing you hear in the movie like it’s serving as a warning siren that what you’re about to watch is extremely disturbing lol. I remember as soon as I heard it in the theatre as a kid that I wasn’t going to have a pleasant experience 😂😂 and I didn’t. Had to exit the theatre right after Lynn was shot. I was uneasy for WEEKS afterwards haha. Fantastic film.
I agree with the character arcs. From the boyfriend to the brother and sister. This flick didn't paint them as milk toast cookie cutter characters. They were crafty fighters after they realized the situation they're in. I've always admired that.

Is one of the most disturbing things I’ve ever seen in a movie,
Probably because of how real feels. It makes total sense for the mutants to use bob as bait instead of just killing him right away to set a trap. I’ll never forget When the mother of the child is fighting the mutant for the revolver and he just slowly inches it closer to her head that still is one of the craziest scenes I’ve watched
I absolutely love this more than the original. RIP Mr. Craven.

I remember the Remakes DVD main menu being super creepy
Yes alone in my room at night.that menu scared TF out of me
Grainy footage of them going down the road shots from throughout the film with little effects here and there and to top it all the foreboding music on the menu
I watched this way way to young with my mother and it terrified me for the rest of my childhood. This and saw. I couldn’t even see a billy the puppet on tv without changing the channel.
I love this remake, and that music is so damn good.

I remember seeing this when I was 16, and to this day it's still one of my favorite horror movies.
I always hate how underappreciated this remake is. It was right around the time when they were remaking as many horror classics as possible like The Thing, Halloween, and Nightmare on Elm Street. This is the best example of taking cool stuff from the source material and actually making it bigger and better.
You’re so right. Texas chainsaw massacre remake too. Even had the same tone as this movie but didn’t land. The opening scene of Texas made to look like real found footage scared the crap out of me when I was 12

I was 18 when this came out. I had no knowledge of the original movie. I got so freaked out I slept with a knife in my hand that night
Great video! This truly is one of the best horror remakes ever and stands proudly alongside others such as John Catpernter's The Thing, David Cronenberg's The Fly, and Zack Snyder's Dawn Of The Dead.

Its in my top ten horror movies but the remake is one of the only movies that scare tf out of me if im alone. God the mutants are fucking brutal.
I saw this movie in the 5th grade and it scared the shit out of me. Had to walk outside when the girls were being violently sexually abused, that was a little too much for kid me. The movie is incredible though, it's stuck with me and I still show it to anyone that hasn't seen it.
Let’s also not forget the subtle but iconic movie poster. Love that shit
I love this movie, especially the awesome fight scene. Great cast as well. I'm so glad they got an award for that fight scene. 😊
I don't usually see horror movies in the theater but for some reason I saw this on a date and was shocked at how good it was.
The original was good for its time but the remake was just brutal in a good way. Like this was something you could really see your family being put in, you felt helpless right along with those characters.
I always thought the assault on precinct 13 2005 remake was really good and a better action movie than the original

This was probably the first horror movie I was able to force myself to sit thru in my mid 20s, & it was FUUUUUUCKED UP!!! Whenever what’s his name there ”Lizard” I think it is was shoots Lyn in the head I was like; 😳🤯😳🤯 I really thought they were going to shoot the baby. I had such issues w watching horror movies when I was younger bc it would actually affect my sleep, I could never think up those scenes & seeing them would get stuck in my head, however I take 200mgs of seroquel for sleep now so nothing I watch is that bad anymore.

I think The Hills Have Eyes remake is one of the only movies where it's pretty indisputably better than the original.
I really enjoye this film, and watched it again recently. I kind of forgot how incredibly brutal and cruel it is. Relentless cruelty throughout the runtime, and it's a little overwhelming. That said, the build-up between when they initially get stranded and that firt night where the crazies show up is absolutely impeccable filmmaking. Insane tension.
This was probably one of the best (if not the best) remake of a horror movie in the last 25 years. Absolutely solid work and it still knocks me on my rear when I watch it after 18 years (!) following its initial release. Great video for this great flick! Cheers!

I remember this being my all time favorite movie for a short time in high school. I watched it every chance I could.
So good! As a horror fan, I'm fairly desensitized, however, this movie gave me some genuine creeps!

I find it neat that I think I spotted the Cadillac from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas when it gets to the part were they find a bunch of destroyed or seriously damaged vehicles the main reason why I think that is the same Cadillac is the roof being peeled back like a sardine can

This is absolutely one of the few remakes that i put in the category of better than the original. This was a fantastic film with a great cast and having Ted Levine was very welcomed.

I saw this movie in theaters with my girlfriend when I was 15 and I had so much fun I took two of my buddies with me to see it again the next weekend!
the remake is one i absolute most favorites along with tx chainsaw to be completely honest ...i like them much more than the originals as sacrilegious as it might sound.
Watching this as a kid I never cried. Now with a family I can’t control myself. It’s like a faucet.
I rewatched the remake a few months back and it wholeheartedly improves on the original in every aspect. The sequel isnt bad either.

This and Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning really pushed the R rating to it's boundary. I'll throw the Devil's Rejects in there too based solely on the motel room scene. Yea the Saw movies are gross but they lack any real gut punch moments. They are more likely to make you squirm and/or laugh. They aren't *mean*.
Man, I've never understood why the two TCM movies from the 2000's don't get more love.

Saw this with my parents in the theater when I was 9. The music/opening alone nearly made me piss my pants. I had no clue what this film was about beforehand.
I love the original, but the remake was just a little bit more..... JUICEY!
Never saw the original. This stuck with me though. It stood out to me that it was a family being pucked off one by one. Far more impactful than it being a group of friends. Families are often the subject of the threat in horrors, but I thought this was done so competently that it really made me feel it

This remake and TCM 2003 got it right when making remakes . The Hills have Eyes remake took the plot of the original and changed several aspects. I like how they take more into consideration the surrounding military base and nuclear test sites. The cannibals are mutants now and the clan is even bigger. This version is gorier and not to mention the ambiguous ending.
I watched this 3 times in one day when it was on PPV in 07 I was like 13, and till this day it's one of the purest scariest horror movies put to screen, in my humble opinion. Thanks for the awesome videos JoBlo.

I personally love the slower pace of the original and I find do to it being toned back in spectacle the horrific scenes just disturb me to my core. I definitely understand the love for the remake though and I think it’s fantastic that it worked for so many

Saw this in the theatre and it was so intense, I went home wondering if I even liked horror anymore.
I honestly loved this movie more than the original. They really did such a fantastic job from casting, to the true horror. It was brutal and didnt hold back on so many levels. RIP Wes Craven

I Have The Original On DVD And It's A Classic But As The Remake Goes I Might Check It Out.
At the time of this films release, I was 5 years old. I remember being at my aunts house and my older cousins put this on. I’m assuming it was around the time it came to home release. The opening of the strange hazmat men getting slaughtered stayed in my mind. I was always curious about the film wondering what it was. It obviously wasn’t until a handful of years later that I learned what it was and gave it a watch. I absolutely loved it for it gruesome, bleak, and hot style it went for. It felt like it didn’t hold back any punches and it certainly has its uncomfortable moments. Giving big praise at the Father’s death’s scene. As it comes across as a spectacle and random occurrence. I truly want to own this, but the only way is to purchase an expensive copy off of EBAY. Being a 4K collector now. I’m praying we get re-release. Sadly, HHE 2 suffered from the worst aspects of a sequel. Going for more blatant shock value and a cheaper budget. Being a handful of steps away from a direct to DVD release. Bringing in the military was an interesting idea, but I don’t think people want to see a military women get raped and pregnanted by cannibals. It was stupid for stupid sake.
Definitely not for kids. I remember running to the bathroom to vomit during “that scene”

I loved the remake because it gave the mutants more background compared to the original. The more I watch it, the more I want to learn more about the mutants and their origins than whether or not the Carter family will survive haha!
(And yes, I know the origins of the mutants is covered in The Hills Have Eyes: The Beginning. I love the graphic novel and would love to see an adaptation of it)

is it just me ,but when ever Romero is shown, my first thought is Stan Lee.
Even part 2 was absolutely insane as well. All those remakes that were coming out in this era if followed what they did with both these movies. I think they wouldn't have been butchered as much. Although unpopular opinion the TCM remake doesn't get enough credit.
There is ONE shot in the remake which could have made the ending sooooooooo much better and hard hitting. it pisses me off to this day and I actually cut it from my copy
