10:20 Never tried shorting it with a finger but I've gotten a few shocks grabbing old ballast contacts with both hands. It tickles but I've never gotten burned. One time the shock was strong enough to cause a muscle spasm and I dropped the 4ft bulb.

Because they always cut out the part of the video where they spend 3 weeks to fix something
because of the 4th wall. that ONE time something actually works is what you see cut in with the building of the device. You dont get to see the 3,000 failed attempts, smoke and fire.

If you ever want to revisit this episode. All you have to do is take apart a tube tv, grab the suction cup off the back of the glass and use the wire coming from the tube to create much more arcs. I did it when I was younger and it was awesome. I melted alot of stuff and set things on fire in my bedroom lol. I sat it on a broken drawer, and just used the whole board with the transformer still on it, to create cool arcs and they sounded awesome.

@ElectroBOOM many years ago I followed a kit on making a HV generator of many kHz that used a TV flyback transformer. Part of the instructions were exactly where to drill through that model of transformer to get to a metal pad just prior to the output diode encased in resin near the output lead.

I had a moment with one of those type ballasts. It definitely burned; however it messed with my nerves too. Lost control of my muscles and everything else but the ability to think. It was one helluva learning experience. Do be careful when fkn about with ballasts.

You shouldn't be encouraging him if he really does that. He doesn't take risks outside his expertise. Almost all the sparks are planned to teach you what to avoid. If anyone entertains people by actually risking their life (i.e. have a not insignificant probability of dying), they should not be allowed to do that.
