Piece of advice that I picked up on my way to my 30's: Get to a point where you are happy on your own to such a degree that you only see a boyfriend or girlfriend as a bonus. The icing on the cake. This way, next time someone comes into your life you wont be compelled to be totally devoted to putting them first and you wont completely put yourself on the backburner. Bottom line.....a significant other cannot make you happy. They can only make you happier.

I just think regardless of the commonly held opinions on love and relationships its important not to forget about yourself and that your priority should always be ensuring that YOU are happy. I know it might sound selfish but I really believe it.

Hey, and i'm so sorry to hear that! But well for me the most important thing to start of with, was that I was no longer going to let that affect on my future life. Wrong about the feelings. Feelings pass. That's what they do. No feeling is permanent. Life would be chaos if they didn't. Basing a relationship on emotions is the same as building it on quicksand. It'd going to go under eventually, because the emotions will change eventually. A committed relationship is built on dedication and shared goals rather than feelings. You find someone that wants to be in the same place you do in 10, 20, 30 years and work with each other to get there, even when it doesn't *feel* good. Even when it's not easy. Even when it doesn't just magically happen on its own. Apply gym mentality here: Who sees the best results? The person that works out only when they feel the burn to hit the weights, or the person who makes themselves do their sets week in and week out no matter how much they're feeling the workout? Basing a relationship on flighty feelings is like only going to the gym when you feel like it. Basing a relationship on goals and commitment is going to the gym on schedule every week even when your energy is low and you're stressed out. And one last thing: No one is "made for eachother". People change to fit each other over time. If you meet someone you're close to fitting already, that's fortunate, but it's no guarantee that the two of you won't change in ways that make you less of a match over time. It requires effort to stay synced up.

To be 100% honest...when you started crying I did too...I'm proud of CG for all he's done and accomplished...but those are materialistic things that won't last forever. Love does, and I don't wanna be disrespectful or anything but he shoulda used the 80-20 rule. 80% into what should be most important and for me that would be what matters most ex: family, friends and and if you're in a relationship then with the person you love and care for most.. Wrong about the feelings. Feelings pass. That's what they do. No feeling is permanent. Life would be chaos if they didn't. Basing a relationship on emotions is the same as building it on quicksand. It'd going to go under eventually, because the emotions will change eventually. A committed relationship is built on dedication and shared goals rather than feelings. You find someone that wants to be in the same place you do in 10, 20, 30 years and work with each other to get there, even when it doesn't *feel* good. Even when it's not easy. Even when it doesn't just magically happen on its own.
Apply gym mentality here: Who sees the best results? The person that works out only when they feel the burn to hit the weights, or the person who makes themselves do their sets week in and week out no matter how much they're feeling the workout? Basing a relationship on flighty feelings is like only going to the gym when you feel like it. Basing a relationship on goals and commitment is going to the gym on schedule every week even when your energy is low and you're stressed out.
And one last thing: No one is "made for eachother". People change to fit each other over time. If you meet someone you're close to fitting already, that's fortunate, but it's no guarantee that the two of you won't change in ways that make you less of a match over time. It requires effort to stay synced up.
