    Chiiiiile......I just finished watching this and if "covert narcissist" was a person. She gaslighted the whole interview and got four months for all those federal crimes. All those poor employees,, especially the entire family that was employed by her. Then had the nerve to be low-key flippant as she was talking. The privilege. I really can't. I'm so glad I found this because when I watched this documentary series last week it left me completely angry. And at the time I couldn't seem to find anything online that matched what my thoughts were in watching it. Privilege is also all I saw at every turn. It made me nauseous at several points. But I kept with it because people had such wonderful reviews. I don't get it. I love his commentary. But I really am done with Netflix doing these kinds of programs. And while I'm at it I couldn't help but wish that Netflix had a competing service out there running alongside them that only showcases movies made by, for, or about people of color. I'm sick of the unbearable lightness of Netflix. Tyler Perry where the heck are you?

Delusionally she thinks but that's actually a great idea. And honestly is being blond and beautiful and asking a banker or investor for money has resulted in this much so far, she might actually be able to pull it off and get some investment to start up again. How can this be, when she couldn't get even her own money back from this Navy Walrus?? She couldn't possibly believe Jeffrey's money was safe with the mad dog, the Navy Narwhal, if it wasn't safe within her own marriage!!! There are SO many problems with this series, many of which y’all touched on during your review (i.e. poor research, VERY unreliable narrator, horrible hair color job, etc….). My biggest gripe? No accountability! This woman spent the entire first 1.5 episodes speaking in passive voice - “He had me try on rings. He took us apartment hunting” and on and on. She acts as though she had no say in ANYTHING even before she (allegedly) fell under his manipulations. Between her, Anna Delvey and Elizabeth Holmes, I’m convinced 2022 is the year of white woman deniability. And why shouldn’t it be? None of these scammers have/will serve any significant jail time and all have/will land movie deals! Your review is the only silver lining that emerged from this abysmal doc IMO. The most frustrating thing is listening to her talk throughout the show. She is as manipulative as Anthony/Jason or whatever the hell his name is. She seems like an extremely cold person that had no issue using anyone she knew for any purpose she saw fit. It’s gonna sound like I’m not blaming him but we don’t get to hear his side from start to finish. All I get is hers and from the start I felt her playing me.
    And like you said about the reporter he was wrapped around her finger. The only person I truly believed was her dad. Alcoholics define alcoholism as "drinking that causes problems." This is a good working definition for bad relationships, too. A bad relationship is one that causes problems. i don't mean ordinary problems, the kind that most people have to deal with between birth and the grave. I am talking about constant and unusual problems, problems that keep arising and never seem to go away. An ordinary couple might have an occasional problem with a lie between them. An ordinary couple might have a single occasion that causes jealousy between them. Ordinary couples, though, deal with these and make them go away. In a bad relationship, these problems continue to occur unabated and never go away. The lies mount up. The infidelity occurs again and again. The fear grows. The threats increase. The bank account continues to drain.
    Remember this: if you can think back to a time before your relationship and can honestly say, "Things were never like this; they were never so bad," then you are living in what is called a 'devitalizing cycle.' In other words, you are moving, not in the direction of life and happiness, but in the direction of misery and death. And then you must make a decision. What is it you want? Are you accepting all the horrors of the relationship because there is a single thing about it that you like? Are you accepting infidelity because you like the fact that your partner buys you jewelry or takes you on nice vacations? Are you accepting the constant depletion of your bank account merely because you enjoy the sex you are having with this partner? Is everything like Great Adventure, except when he beats you now and then? If so, it is time to save your life and make sure this person is out of your life. God has not created us to live a death within our lives. People who do not help us to live must not be allowed to end our lives before our natural death occurs. Unfortunately, there are people who are more like cancers than people, who roam through the world looking for people to infect with their own particular form of virus, and, unfortunately, there are some people who allow themselves to become hosts to these infections.
    You must love yourself enough to say, "I did not come into this world so that you could end my life. My life is mine, not yours."
    And this is why we have family, why we have people who love us unconditionally. These people are supposed to save us when we cannot save ourselves. Our friends serve this purpose also.
    If anything like this ever happens to you, please call someone and say, "I know you love me. Will you help me, because I have lost control, and this person is going to kill me one way or another."
    I can tell you this: if Sarma were my sister, I'd pay this guy a call, and he'd never bother her again. EVER. Case closed.
    Don't misunderstand me. I do not believe in violence. I do not believe that violence is an appropriate way to solve a problem. Again, though, there is no way to deal with a mad dog except to put it down. And there is no way to protect loved ones from imminent harm except direct action. Why no one ever consulted the police--now, in fairness, I'm only up to the middle of Episode 3--I'll never know. This should have been brought to the attention of law enforcement right away. There were warning signs early on.

    I just watched this series and is the most insane story I have ever heard. The texts and phone conversations are annoying and frustrating to hear. This people used the F word in every sentence they spoke. The series failed in that you feel no empathy or connection with Sarma. She seems to be a detached and antisocial individual that let all of this happen to her. Shane was a con man and anybody with some basic common sense would have noticed that from the beginning. … Also the whole Alec Baldwin connection is bizarre.

    I've just finished watching the documentary and i can say i understand exactly how it feels when you come across a manipulator and a person that abuses you psychologically.. I feel sorry for her for going through all that but i also feel sorry for her for calling him right after she is out of jail, giggling at his jokes and all.. It just shows she wasn't 100 percent innocent, she knew what she was doing, at least part of it.. I'm not the one to judge and i don't even know her but you don't just get out of jail and call someone who you claim destroyed your life, it's not normal

    • @codedecode878
      @codedecode878 Před 2 lety

      he didn't manipulate her LOL don't be a chump or feel sorry for her, she's a lying piece of shit snake. she is 100% complicit in this scam and fraud. 100 fucking percent and if you have any sympathy for her at all you've been fooled. the docuseries itself is propaganda for this unbelievable story. she stole at least $6M from those around her. (well, let's say $5M, i'm not going to include the $700k in state taxes b/c taxes are bullshit LOL) and it's probably a lot more.

    I´m here after watching the documentary yesterday. I searched on youtube a video review to see how other people reacted to this documentary. First of all, you managed to keep me watching for 45 min, and yes your review was more interesting than the documentary itself. You described very well the feeling I had watching the entire documentary: frustration! I do believe he is a con artist/sociopath and a compulsive gambler. She is either a liar or crazy person that should not manage a 6 figures restaurant. The story is sad because after alle they´ve done, they only got to spend 4 months and 1 year in prison. And the saddest moment in the documentary was the last call they had at the end, where they sounded like "Well it was fun, see you"

    I had to rewatch this docuseries to try and understand what was it in Anthony that made her feel controlled by him. She only known him for 2 1/2 years. Her past wasn’t as bad as other peoples. And I still don’t understand how she let this man ruin her life. The only power that man had was literally what she let him do to her. She could have pulled the plug on him Frfr she wasnt in any real danger. Even listening to the phone calls between Sarma and Anthony Anthony would try to scare her and when she stuck up for herself he would back down and try to make it say it was her fault.Watching similar Netflix documentaries like Fyre Fest and the Tinder Swindler, I can see why the people fell for the scam but her I can’t. On top of that she did her employees dirty especially when they were willing to come back and work for her after she on purposely didn’t pay them. I hope she recovers from this and makes better decisions in the future.

    The first sign that someone is not normal is that they try to exert a type of control over you that no one has ever tried to exert before. Cults do this. Con men do this. It's amazing that this woman never said, "Gee, this life with him is unlike any aspect of my life before he came into it." TRUST YOUR GUT!!! If it seems weird, IT IS!! People who claim to love you don't try to control your every movement and every thought. Love is not of that character. This was control, not love. In my world, the following phone call would have been made to Mr. Manipulation: "Hey, Creepy Mystical Dude, come near my daughter, contact her again, tell her what to do again, and I will have you underground by the weekend. How would you like THAT box, you creep?! I have twelve men looking for you as we speak. Have a nice day."
