- Today we’re looking at the fastest growing spirit category in the last couple of years: tequila! These bottles are all under $30 and don’t skimp on quality or taste. Buy any of these tequilas and you can be confident you made the right choice. They are also available nationally, so you shouldn’t have an issue finding them at a local big-box liquor store like Total Wine or BevMo.
I included blanco tequilas, reposado tequilas, and añjeo tequilas. As usual, I also picked out one tequila under $20 that deserves to be considered.
The Best Under $30 Tequila Lineup:

④ Espolòn Reposado

Arette, Cimarron, Tapatio, Tromba are the best budget friendly tequilas made the traditional way with no additives.
Fortaleza, G4, Ocho, El Tesoro, Siete Leguas, El Tequileno, Gran Dovejo, Cascahuin, Don Fulano, Fuenteseca, are all top notch. You can't go wrong with any of these additive free tequilas but are a little more expensive. $50+ but well worth it.
Awesome, this is a great list.
fortaleza is so hard to find! love it though lol
Yes! Your list blows his away!
Like @joeb5763....stick with additive-free tequilas!
Lets not forget Lalo or Migenta as well. $45-50 but top notch additive free. Also El Tequileno Platinum and los Altos
Solid list, thanks! Just got some of your bottles in the mail today, looking forward to making some tequila drinks with them!
Right on! Enjoy-prime time for a tequila cocktail!
I always enjoy these informative and often hilarious videos. I particularly enjoy the recipes paired with each selection; it really makes a difference to the individual cocktail to have a specific liquor. No spirited debate to offer but do you mind if I inform the Shaker & Spoon group that your summer sale will be upcoming in July?
Thank you so much! So glad you enjoy them 🤗. You most definitely can tell the Shaker & Spoon group about our upcoming sale. Date isn't set yet, but it will be in July and lasts several days.
We did a blind tequila tasting at a party a few years back, 20+ bottles from all price points, the clear winner was El Jimador Anejo. Everyone loved it for sipping. Of course the volume of tequila consumed may well have affected our judgement.
lol, that may have affected it somewhat, but it's still a great choice!
El Jimador is made at the same distiller and started by the same family that made Herradura
El jimador is made with a diffuser and has additives in it to mask the chemical taste. You really should try other brands that are way better than that garbage
THen not one person has experience with good tequila and just loves the diffuser made stuff with additives. Sad
That’s my kind of party
Terrific video!! I don't know a lot about tequila so this was very informative! Thanks!! :-)
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it and learned a little something 😊
My knowledge nor palette for tequila is great. I did a study abroad in Mexico and stayed with a host family. My host family gave me their favorite bottle of tequila which was the Gran Centennario as a gift. I don't particularly like liquor and I'm certain Gran Centennario isn't "best of class" but I always feel nostalgic drinking it.
Gran Centenario is marketed as Mexico's number 1 tequila for a reason!
Just bought my first bottle of Camerena responsado, and I always liked El Jimador when I tried it years ago. Now I’ll have to try the other tequilas made from smaller Mexican farms like Alto, Cimmaron, and Arette
Nice! Let us know what you think.
camerena is the best sleeper tequila around - a great "daily" option!
Great information - thanks!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great list! I'd add Hornitos Black Barrel if you can find it for $30 in your area. I'm not a fan of their blanco or reposado, but black barrel is delicious.
Great pick. It's $26 at Total Wine here in Austin.
Great Video, please keep them going.
Thank you! Next up is Bourbons under $30.
@@liberandco Since you are in Austin I would recommend Whitmeyers to be considered. Houston based. They have a bourbon and rye mix that's very nice. Try it!
Great info..thanks 👍
You bet!
El jimador has been my cheapy go-to, while i do have several expensive bottles of even rare stuff, some times these more budget friendly do the trick (El jimador anejo actually surprised me as a decent sipping tequila, while obviously not going to win any awards i don't many folks would complain either)
I fell in love with Zapopan a couple of years ago. I can't find it anymore. $25 for a liter. Enjoyable to sip neat and very good in a Margarita. I live in Arkansas.
We haven't seen that one either, but we'll keep an eye out.
S - Fortaleza, G4, Cazcanes, El Tesoro
A - Siete Leguas, Tequila Ocho, Volans
B - Cimarron, Mijenta, Tres Agaves, Lalo, Yeyo, Cabal, Insolito, El Tequileno, Inspiro
C - Patron, Corrido, Codigo
D - Gran Coramino, Don Julio, 1800
F - Casamigos, Teremana
G - 818, Jose Cuervo, Lobos
Patron and 1800 are my choices.
Arette is the bomb and it's only about 20-25 bucks and worth any penny.
Cool video bro ,thanks
Glad you liked it! Cheers!
1800 Reposado is my favorite but somrtimes I get the mood for more bite then is Jose Cuervo Especial.
Olmeca Altos should be on this list.
Also Cimmaron
Tequilas should not be really smooth, they're minerally and grassy.
Have to try that!
Yes, Olmeca altos! Smooth and is my go to for real maragaritas
That’s our cocktail tequila 👍
Any of these would be great in Margaritas where there are plenty of citrus notes in the mix to cover up any flaws in the tequila. You will pay more for sipping quality tequila ($40-50) but if your budget allows for it, well worth it. G4, Pasote, El Tesoro, Ocho, Forteleza all good choices. Arette at $25 better than any in this video IMO and very sippable as well as making a good mixed drink.
Great picks here! If your budget allows for it, you can find some really impressive artisan tequilas.
@@liberandcoI don’t see the hype so much on all those as everyone always mentions those same ones. El Tesoro for example was a nah for me have a full bottle just sitting there.
Making margaritas with Lunazul blanco right now and it's quite nice. Another cheap tequila I'd recommend.
In TEXAS Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey in Fall & Winters and Mexican Tequila in Spring & Summers. (smile)
Hornitos should definitely be up there.
Try Arette. IMHO Arette is best in class at the lower end price scale and IMHO it bests any of those in your lineup. All of which I've tried and all of which are pretty ho-hum except Centenario, that one is a definite keeper. Arette is also certified additive free, if that sort of thing matters to you. Full disclaimer…I prefer punchier tequilas over softer ones, that may not be for everyone. Side note: I always first try a blanco/silver from any particular brand of tequila, if they can't make a good plata, chances are they probably won't have good aged offerings. But I could be wrong.
Subscribed for the Koepka comment! Bruce!!!
Cheers!
I was looking to see if this video was originally posted on April 1?!?! Unfortunately, it seems to be a real post.
Corralejo easy to drink and shot but wouldn’t buy the silver-Milagro never had it, Cazadores a classic. And Centenario we still drink and must buy when in MX.
Cazadores is great. Ive only tried the blanco but it has alot of great agave flavor. I can drink it straight no problem and actually enjoy it.
Smooth tequilas for the win!
Have you tried San Matias ?
We haven't tried that one, but seems to be well reviewed.
1800 is my best bang for buck tequila in college nice packaging and recognizable making it perfect for parties
Oh, ya, very true!
Drink Yeyo or lalos. Both good tequilas
Thanks for the tip! Will try those out.
Never seen joven reposado is the best
Didn’t like any of those. Maybe centenario, but in mexico. Try arette, cimarron, tequileño, or even confianza which is slightly above 30.
Thanks for the picks! We'll try those. Planning to do a part 2 to this video...
@@liberandco can’t wait!
For me..its 1800...Don Julio...any day of the week.....
There's someone in the office that would advocate for Don Julio as well!
Ooohhh don julio is nasty
El Jimador is the ultimate headache in a bottle.
🫨
I'm allergic to tequila, but I'm here showing support just the same, Homie! =)
I'm sorry for your loss 🙏
You might not be allergic to tequila but to the additives in cheaply made tequila. You should try an all natural, additive-free tequila to see if it bothers you. Under doctor's supervision, of course. Obviously, don't try it if you're prone to severe reactions.
Spending more time on the wood 😱😂😂😂
yeehaw 🤠
Don't take offense, but regarding your selections, please try to take into account the extraction process used in the production of the tequila. Particularly look for whether a Difusor is used to make the product. There are a good many tequilas out there under $30, but most of them have better uses than a libation.
How do you find out what extraction process is used?
From our research, Espolòn and Milagro are not tequilas made with a difuser, but Cazadores is. Gran Centenario might be, but we'd have to dig in more.
Some Google sleuthing is a good place to start. There might be some good Reddit threads on r/tequila as well.
@@fishofgold6553tequila matchmaker app/website
Tequila Matchmaker will tell you. The problem isn't just the diffusor but also how it's used to extract under-ripe agave and then pass it through thermal acid hydrolysis, Then they add a bunch of additives since it's basically flavorless.
Some brands have experimented using a diffusor on ripe agave to extract the residual starches and it worked well but I don't know if any are using it anymore. But the diffusor itself isn't the issue, it's how it's used.
I've been drinking tequila for years, I👂🏽of , or 👀Joven tequila. 🤷🏾♀️
Altos
Great pick!
Blanco El mayor is the best under 30!!!!
Thanks for the rec, Josh, we'll check it out!
Let down no Memorial Day sale
If you can wait a month we'll do our summer sale--that will be a big one.
There are many cheap additive free, non diffuser tequilas that are much better than the ones listed here. Do a little bit of research and they're not hard to find. These tequilas are pretty bad.
totally, i dont think he actually likes 100% blue agave tequila
Alto is cheap and far more drinkable than these
@@swisher1849 All tequila must be 100% blue agave, even the grossest diffusor swill. It just means 100% of the fermentables came from Weber blue agave. But even diffusor sludge with a ton of additives can be labeled 100% blue agave. If they add other sugar, then it must be labeled a mixto.
Jeez, 4 of the 5 are terrible values. Pure drain pours made from diffuser tequilas that also use additives because they use immature agave. Espolon solid. For $30 under, Arette, Cimarron, Don Pilar, Tres Agaves Corazon and Tequileno Repo(not Gran Reserva).
We haven't tried all of the ones you recommend, but we'll give them a shot!
@@liberandco El Tequileno reposado is, by far, my personal favourite lower shelf tequila. I prefer it to Espolon. That is not to slight Espolon as it i9s a good recommendation but El Tequileno repo is better tasting for me.
Same thing I was saying. Espolon is the best out of all of them
I felt the same, Milagro barrel reserve reserve isn’t bad , neither is Coralejo Reposado or Añejo but they’re more expensive, for the $30 dollar price point I liked the regular El Tequileño Reposado as well
Cimarron is my fav under $30!!!
All of these except for espilon are bad, poorly made tequilas. Listen to commenter joeb
Bro stop with your margatitas lol, there is other cocktails with tequila
My man this video is a joke right? All those tequilas you just talked about are trash! Cimarron, Tres Agaves, Arette, Mi Campo, Tequileno are all better options. I would not serve these to my guests.
Excellent choices! We've enjoyed a few of these, but you've given a couple new ones to check out.
Damn! I’ve owned the first 4 at different times 😅I thought they were good. I just drank Espolon on Saturday !
stop lying there is no good tequila under $30
Not true at all. Pueblo Viejo Blanco is excellent, all natural, additive free, traditionally made and about $25 for a 1 liter.
I think Altos is one of the better cheap tequilas out there.
It's definitely one to consider!
El jimador is awful death juice
There’s no way this is real
Lay it on us, what are we missing?
It this a list of most additive tequilas made? All these are just plain not good. You missed thearke completely. You should do some research on traditional made tequila not mass produced crap. Rant over
cazadores sucks now lmfao what
You need to close caption the name of your tequilas, your Spanish is horrible. Don’t mean it disrespectfully.😊
I knew I should have studied Spanish in high school.
Utter trash tequilas & not true traditional tequilas! Commercial crap is what they are! People need to be educated on the damage these brands (especially celebrity backed brands) do to the industry!!!
Don't worry we have celebrity backed brand reviews coming soon! Also, we'd love to hear your top 5 under $30.
So in your opinion; what’s a few good brands?
@@liberandconot true don’t listen to him, probably doesn’t know shit has never been to Jalisco.
You gotta be broke broke to even listen to this nonsense 😂
This guy does not know tequila, he has diffused products on his list that are horrible
