- In today's video, we discuss how to drink tequila the authentic way! Although not very complicated, we go over what a proper tequila is, how its served, and what to pair it with!
Sangrita recipe:
8 oz Grape Fruit Juice
4 oz Lime Juice
2 oz Orange Juice
5-10 dashes of Hot sauce
Salt and pepper to taste

Espolon is the tits. It blows my mind that people will pay the same price for cuervo as that stuff, there's no comparison between the two.
Drizly will not deliver to me in AZ. SUCKS. Waiting for video on the reposados and anejos. Thanks for explaining the blue agave factor. Never knew that and will only look for that on the label from now on. 👍
@@humanstew8866 the cuervo bottle in this vid is pretty bad and I wouldn't drink it if you paid me. But cuervo does produce some top shelf as well, it's just not as common to see you here in the states.
@@Lex-pw9yx Fair enough. I'd probably have never given Cuervo a chance just because Cuervo Gold has left a sour taste in my mouth
you called jose cuervo ceap but it like $50 a bottle for 700ml
I was shocked to see only 100 subscribers (new sub btw), your production, editing, speaking, etc is very high quality. Can't wait to see more of you in the future!
I really appreciate that Kevin, looking forward to making more content!
Seriously couldn’t agree more. Keep it up
Love your vids! The reason why he doesn't have more subscribers is because the CZcams algorithm doesn't promote videos containing alcohol consumption :/
Came here to say that exact same thing!
@@EdBMetal Because time passed
Honestly, I thought I hated tequila until I tried a quality one. Bought a ~$55 bottle of a reposado. It brought out such nice flavors that really deserve to be sipped and enjoyed. I'll also make it into a sort of old fashion with: 2 oz tequila of choice, a barspoon of agave nectar, 1-2 dashes of orange bitters, garnished with an expressed orange peel. It's a refreshing way to wind down!
Littttle, the reposado is the yummy tequila.
Necroposting, but if you want something good for the cheap, see if you have La Gritona in your area. It's the distiller's love letter to the agave plant and is almost citrusy and fresh. I sip it alone, or have it in a paloma
@@nisahurbina4553 dead posting enough that I am currently working in a taquila bar, haha. I’ll have to check when I’m at the liquor store next!
I was too scared to try any type of tequila for all of my 20's due to having had the dry-heave hangovers from my teenage era experiments with Jose gold. By age 32 I was a big whiskey and rum fan. But after trying a bunch of different decent quality tequilas I was a fan right away. Such a shame that Jose and the cheap crap unfairly ruined tequila's reputation for alot of us "back in the day". The tequila scene back then wasn't anything like what it is now.
What brand?
My favorite is anejo
All my family is from Jalisco and the authentic way to drink it is to drink it how you want to. Try Centenario. Cheers
i think we related cuh
If a jalicense (is that how you say it) tells me to try a tequila, I guess I’ll have to. Blanco, rep, or anejo?
@@jacobm2625 My personal favorite in any cocktail is the reposado but the anejo is the best for shots as it has a more unique flavor. I'm not crazy about tequila because rum is a thing hahaha. Cheers.
@@jacobm2625
Avoid blanco, there is barely any aging to it and most blanco tastes similar. This is the stuff uncultured people drink at bars with lime.
Go Reposado or better yet Anejo
JASILICO
Unpretentious, practical, accessible, and an endearing presentation. It's just like the drink! Thanks for sharing.
Someone else just called me pretentious on this video so I really appreciate this comment lmaoooooooo. Super glad you enjoyed!
@@SlightlyCultured nah.. you were joking around and you came off like you were joking around. You have a friendly and fun persona on camera. Keep up the great work!
Tequila is gross to me unfortunately
As a bartender, I have plenty of recipes to last me for the rest of my career. These are the videos that are genuinely needed to help my improve. Working as a run of the mill bartender is all recipe memorization for the most part, but once you begin crafting cocktails and catering to guests on an individual level knowledge like this really changes the game and can totally make an impact with customers, thank you so much for all of these I’ve watched all your vids twice and can’t wait for more
Also the fact that it’s not only educational but actually has me laughing out loud is a hard to find combo, you found ur calling
Wow! I am super stoked I was able to be helpful Jacob! Glad you enjoyed! Maybe you can help me stop spilling....
Is there a simple way to drink it without making a cocktail? Like tequila on ice with some lime in it maybe ? Or maybe a little hot sause and salt? No idea but I know I get tired of making margaritas all the time but I also am not sure I want to drink it straight.
@@bradbartlett2663 straight is the way to go and better with a tequila blanco. Want a cocktail?
Charro negro: ice, white tequila fill the glass with Coca Cola.
Paloma: ice, tequila, fill the glass with Squirt.
You can add a twist of lemon peel (I’m not sure if that’s what you call it in English).
I wouldn’t use a fine tequila for this, but if you can find El Tequileño blanco, that’s a good one for cocktails
Something to keep in mind:
The ñ in Añejo breaks down to two sounds (an 'n' sound and a 'y' sound). A syllabication would be something like An-ye-ho. I thought I was on a 100k sub channel with the quality, keep it consistent. This is good stuff. Also, glassware isn't talked about as much but it does enhance or detract from the drinking experience (whether it's water or juice or booze)
That is actually helpful, thank you lol! And I appreciate the kind words Conan!
No lo podria yo explicar mejor. Good work.
Like the gn in cognac
nope, the eñe is one single sound which can be pronounced as you said by people who can't produce the correct sound.
The grand spanking majority of us mexicans actually drink our tequilla in shots; or we mix it into something. Even the high end stuff.
I find the "this is how its supposed to be done" attitude of how to drink tequila or how its supposed to be made so frustrating with the younger tequila drinkers. I am not saying he is but there are many f them out there. Being Mexican, close to Mexico and often going into Mexico, it was always a shot of tequila, but drink it however you like.
@@fatherjohn1869 I have lived in México my whole life and of course, we have a big drinking culture here. Most often drinked as a shot, but might sip some nicer tequilas to get the taste, most people still ask for limón and I can't quite understand why, as it is quite tasty by itself
@Isnsn Cjdjw he was specifically talking about high quality tequila. It says so right in his post. If you're going to be a condescending prick, make sure you at least know how to read.
@@Xavier_Coogat_the_Mambo_King so he uses Espolon as an example? Great tequila but towards ths bottom of the shelf. A good example could have been G4, Tears of Llorona even some of the NOM specialties.
I love how you said nonchalantly just mixed it in with something so I guess I am doing it right
Thank you! I steered so clear of tequila as a young 20 something because of the drinking/party culture around it and then decided to give it (Patron Silver) a go at a bartenders recommendation. And I love it. I'm not a fan of most alcohol. I'm an avid taster but never found "my alcohol genre" until tequila.
It's amazing how similar it is to drinking a good whiskey! It's like writing off the entire world of whiskey because I had only seen and tasted fireball!
Very excited to get my hands on the barrel aged varieties. I would love to see how the aging alters the flavor profile.
Keep up this production an I easily see you having over a million subs an have brands reach out to you for sponsored vids
Jasper, happy to see you back! Thank you! I'm going to try and keep it weekly and keep improving!
@@SlightlyCultured I’ll keep tuning in man, love the work! Thanks for the great vids can’t wait for more
just found the channel today and couldn’t agree more bro keep it up 👍
Glad you touched on sangrita and that salt and lime is still used in Mexico. Some of my favorite memories in Mexico are sitting around a table with friends in chill restaurants with bottle service including stemmed tasting glasses with salt and lime.
It makes sense once you think of it just like a whiskey, there's unaged unoaked whiskey (silver), and aged whiskey (anejo)
sipping quality Tequila in a nice scottish glencarin glass is the best.
There’s also Cristalino. So 5 types.
Also another big factor in the quality of 100% Agave tequila is the cooking methods. There is a huge difference between a tequila that uses stone brick ovens and a tequila that uses a diffuser.
So not all 100% agave tequila are the same quality. Generally stone brick oven is the best method for cooking.
Check us out! Una Vida Tequila 🤘🏼
Cristalino no se considera tequila a los tequileros auténticos.
I didn't find out about diffusers and additives until watching some videos on YT. Then after some research I found out that half of the stuff I was drinking was diffuser tequila. I won't buy and support the diffuser stuff now that I know about it. Diffusers are like a blatant slap in the face to the time-honored way of crafting a quality product, just like how cheap American blended whiskey is it's own sacrilege of sorts. I guess they both have their place if you will, but not in my house.
@e glezll para los puristas, solo el Blanco(EN- Silver) es considerado tequila, de lo que yo escuché alguna vez. Pero tienes razón, Cristalino no se considera oficialmente por el CRT como una clase de tequila.
I was in a local dive bar in Mexico and the bartender recommended sangrita with good tequila. I still use the recipe he served/told me about: 2 parts tomato juice, 1 part orange juice, as much fresh lime juice as you like, plus a generous helping of cayenne pepper. I loved it and it's still my favorite drink pairing. I am going to try this one too, it sounds great.
Still not right, by a long shot. But a better shot than the one in the podcast. I got a recipe that was based on several good bars in Guadalajara. By the way, if it has tomato it's 'Mexico City' style..... ;)
so happy to be here and subbed at 12k cause i KNOW this channel’s gonna blow up! you got a great personality and your editing is top notch. keep it up my guy, i’m here for it! 💜
Used to work in a few bars quite some time ago and the 100% Agave thing was one of the biggest things that changed my stance and outlook on tequila. Growing up being a teen or young adult at parties, usually IF tequila was there it was Jose Cuervo garbage and once in a while somebody would bring Patron because it was the rappers drink of that time.
I learned there wasn't just blancos and that too really changed things for me. The first Anjeo and Reposado's I had completely changed my views on the taste. I generally prefer Anjeo tequila's with Don Juilio being one of my favorites, but for a good party tequila most Reposado's work just fine for it as well as making good cocktails.
It's amazing how many people think tequila is bad because of bad tequilas
Every experienced drunk I know has switched over to tequila, it's clean, it's tasty, it doesn't burn, it doesn't make you hungover. I believe it's a superior spirit.
People love to bemoan tequila they drank in college. It makes my eyes roll.
The attack on titan sped up soundtrack is worth a follow
Welcome aboard Hector!
Glad I'm not the only one who noticed.
Same
I love Espolon as my go-to, well priced and great tasting Tequila. When I drink it I will put one single medium sized ice cube in a rocks glass, 2oz tequila, a squeeze of lime, and 1/4oz home made simple syrup.
Throw in some bitters and it's almost a tequila old fashioned!
What is the best tequila? The one you like. But I prefer mine straight with an ocassional lime to lick . Good tequila= no hangover!
I'm a mexican and honestly even I wasn't aware of this much stuff. My friends and I just drink it mixed with mineral water and limes or drink it straight for shots
It’s more common in Jalisco state then other Mexican states
Damn, you started showing up in my recommended, and I didn't realize you had such a low sub/view count! This is such a high quality, I thought you would be up there with channels like How To Drink and Cocktail Chemistry!

This man is going to end up at 100k subs. I want you all to see this and remember what I say because the algorithm has BLESSED THIS MAN
I hope I still see your comments when we reach 100K ✊
Subscribed! I personally had a really bad experience with Tequila back in my college days, so I was put off by the stuff for the longest time. However, after a few sessions with my cousin who is a Tequila fan, I was able to get my bearings and re-evaluate Tequila properly.
Currently enjoying a glass of Centenario Blanco 100% Agave Tequila now. Cheers!
The production value of this channel made me think it had easily 10x the subs. While non of my friends like this kind of stuff, I will drop a sub and point people your way if an opportunity arises.
I really really appreciate that Doc! I hope you enjoy the journey!
Love the videos hope to see more from you and continue with more "The authentic way" vids learning a lot the editing , style and the memes are great.
That's what the channel is all about baby, more to come I promise!
The way you said “delightful” you are 100% invited to the carne asada and you reminded me of the amigos in Mexico sitting at a bar sipping on tequila the right way.
Omg this is great! I could never tolerate drinking tequila straight but paired side by side with the sangrita is fking fantastic! You sir, earned yourself a sub!
Glad I was able to find this guy before he hit 1K subs, after watching all his vids I can tell he’s gonna grow really fast.
Thanks GG! Thanks for leaving a couple comments too! Stoked to have you along for the ride!
I absolutely love espolon tequila, it deserves more attention. The flavours are so pronounced I normally enjoy it without lime
I take two shots of espolon. ice cubes, then shake them together. nxt I take a freeze cup and add 3 shots of LIME seltzer. I add the shaken iced espolon into the seltzer and then I slightly twirl a metal ice rod (metal chop stick in freezer) and stir the mix gently. It's perfect! gives me those perfect notes of agave without being to blanco straight distilled harshness. perfect for sipping.
Ranch water!
Hey dude love your videos and editing style its all amazing and I'm happy to have just subscribed and watching all your vids. Hope more will keep coming!
Super stoked you enjoyed David! They will, just takes some time in between!
Damn this channel is going to blow up before the end of the year, keep at it bro. Seen your videos thrice already in my feed
I'm gonna keep going Epsellon! I appreciate the encouragment!
Another thing to note is even the 100% agave ones can have a ton of additives. Just much less than mixtos. Casamigos and clase azul are examples of tequila that still have a lot of additives
Anytime drinking tequila I always paired it with pickle juice. whether I was chasing with it or just sipping on it between tequila sips, it always paired super well with whatever tequila I had.
I can honestly say, don't think I have ever heard of that before, but still noted Michael LMAO
@@SlightlyCultured it's a big thing here in Southern Indiana, too. Lol

Yayyyyyyy! Super glad you enjoyed Quesadilla!
I loved the video! I don't doubt you are 100% right that is the right way; though from what I have experienced the must normal ways are in a Paloma, shots, or straight with a beer as a chacer.
Defenitely you got my sub, looking forward to learn about other drinks

Great video man, you are gonna blow up soon and I’m looking forward to it for you!!!
I really hope so Jhenny!
Ayyy, love epsolon! Definitely my go-to mid-shelf tequila! Great for mixing in a Paloma too!
Tiny Spanish lesson, if you ever see an N with a squiggle above it, you were supposed to add a Y to the end of that N.
So the proper Annunciation would be “An-ye-ho”
Hey DeepPix3l! I appreciate the tip, now I just gotta remember that next time I speak spanish lmaoo 😅
The same video with Vodka would be cool. Most people my age mix it with red bull. A Norwegian friend always drinks one glass of vodka and a seperate glass of Orange juice or water and i have to say that's plain but better than mixing it
Just you being funny made me subscribe 🍻 cheers man love the channel goes hard
Keep making videos... you got something and you came out the gate with production value. Ima fan and subscriber.
Thanks Clyde! I'll keep grinding!
I'm from Guadalajara, 30 minutes away from Tequila, yes there's a lot of tequila qualities, the 100% agave you usually can drink alone while other tequilas you can get a prepared drinks like the famous Cantaritos, and it will taste good too. You should make a video on Cantaritos
At 31, I finally decided to give tequila another chance after only having Jose gold when I was younger, and it was always as a shot forced on me. It was vile. I bought Espolon blanco yesterday and surprisingly enjoy it a lot, palomas might be a new favorite drink.
Fantastic video! Love it when people bring attention to how tequila is supposed to be enjoyed.
Glad you enjoyed Donny! The authentic way is almost always the best way!

Just wow! I never really was a fan of a Bloody Mary but there’s just something about this drink that stands out! I think it’s the addition of all of the other citrus juices. But damn I’m a fan! And thanks for the education on the tequila. I went and bought that exact bottle and it’s given me a new respect for tequila!
Learned from my brother in law about high quality sipping tequila. Changed my world.
this is great. i grew up on the crappy tequila, and heard that higher quality ones taste much smoother. found this video. gonna give it a try!
Lmao your editing is so good 🔥
Thanks Boss! I really appreciate that!
I'm from Texas and you gave an appropriate breakdown of Tequila drinking! I am subscribing because of the bottle of Soju in the background.
Haha honestly the harry potter pronunciation thing earned you my sub, can't wait to watch more.
My preferred Sangrita is made with tomatoes, orange juice, lime juice and a selection of onions, peppers, garlic, limes and oranges in a cheese cloth for steeping. If you're like me, it'll be a flavor like you've never tasted and totally awesome.
That sounds super savory!
I have a bottle of tequila I bought in Cozumel. It is made from from fully mature blue agave and aged 12 years. It is smooth and sweet, but it wasn't cheap. They only make 1800 bottles of this tequila each year. It's the real deal.
I’m a 100% beer drinker, but sometimes I like to sip tequila on the side, sometimes I don’t even finish one caballito, I like the flavor
Bro keep it up!! You're gonna go so far!!
Sup Aub! Thanks so much, I'll do my best!
This channel is fantastic! Thankful for the algorithm today
Me too! 🥺 Super glad you enjoyed!
I’ve tried many tequilas and I did not like Espolòn at all and it actually tasted almost exactly like Josè silver. If you want a great sipping silver tequila go with Patron or Don Julio.
Que tal amigo, excelente video, muy bien explicado, congratulations from Mexico!
That sangrita alone sounds so good
I did not know this, love this channel
yayyyy I'm super happy you learned something Ray!
the tequila you're showing I saw at the store but haven't tried yet myself. I just had one called Luchador at a little bar and really enjoyed sipping it while my buddies straight shot it down their throat. I don't care if they thought that was weird but I know for the price of a shot it would be dumb to not savor it.

Got a question for you if you have a minute to read and answer:)
Whiskey, particularly islay single malts like Laphroaig and Lagavulin are my favourite drinks. Failing that other scotch single malts. I also love quality ales and lagers as my 2nd choice or 1st choice if I need to pace myself. I like a good quality gin with a bright and juniper forward flavour especially in a G+T as well.
I hate vodka, rum and brandy. Wine I can take or leave but I prefer dry white wine if I'm stuck having wine.
In essence I like strong notes like smoke, wood, citrus, and acidity. I don't like sweetness most of the time, (with some whiskey exceptions), and I absolutely detest dried fruit/prune/apricot style flavours.
Do you think someone with my tastes would like a good quality tequila? I have never tried a proper tequila in my life and yiu have me curious!
Hey OD! After reading this, I actually think you might LOVE Mezcal! It's still made from agave but has strong notes of smoke and wood! I have a video on it too hehe. However, if you were to go for a tequila, from the sounds of it, I would go with an aged tequila (Anejo or Reposado). It's going to be much more similar to a scotch than just blanco tequila! Let me know if this was helpful!
@@SlightlyCultured Thank you for the advice! I watched your mezcal video and the notes you describe are right up my alley. I also did some research and came to find that the exact mezcal you had in that vid (montelobos) is not only affordable but one of the smokiest (smoke being my favourite flavour profile) and very highly reviewed mezcals.
I have a bottle on the way to arrive in 2-3 days :) I can't wait to try it - thanks again!
I'm heading to Mexico (a resort) in the near future, any brand name Tequilas I should be looking for in particular? Are there any to specifically watch out for and avoid?
Crazy enough we have a bigger selection if tequila in the states. Many distilleries cannot sell in Mexico and can only sell out of country. Most tequila in Mexico is between 35 and 38 percent which is why many people think it is smoother. USA tequila is normally 40%. Fortaleza is any excellent old world tequila that is additive free. It is sold as Los Abuelos in Mexico, id recommend that since you cannot technically buy Los Abuelos here.
Very nice video. I work in a liquor store and every time someone asks for “Jose”, I cringe inside. Espolon is the same price, and so much better.
The CZcams algorithm is in love with you
I am very humbled by it tbh, kinda wild to see videos going off like this
20k subs wtf man !!!! Keep it uppp
ive heard a bunch of buddies of mine hate espolon blanco, but personally its my favorite cheap tequila. i tend to get camarena blanco the most often because of how well-priced it is but espolon has the best flavor of the two.
Thanks for the info, I had no idea I have been drinking inferior Tequila. Very interested in trying out the good stuff 👍
I'm a whisky guy but I can appreciate this.
Glad you enjoyed Wolfman! Tequila and Mezcal are my "whiskey" LOL
The best option for English speakers to pronounce "añejo" is like saying "anieho".
Agave processing is really the difference in tequila quality. Diffuser being the cheapest (anything under $20 and Casamigos surprisingly). Enclave being the middle ground like that Espolon you had at the beginning. Then you get your brick oven baked, Teramana actually offers this method at a very reasonable price.
Its crazy, I've heard alot of good things about Teramana!
Teremana is made at NOM 1613 which is also part of NOM 1416 and two others. All known to use diffuser. Teremana is a decent artificially flavored tequila but its just that, artificial. For the pure experience there are several verified additive free tequilas. Crazy enough NOM 1492 (Patron) is verified additive free and has tons of good expressions contrary to popular belief. Try ArteNom 1146 which is made where Tears of Llorona is made!
Tequila is my favorite drink to drink straight. I don't drink it with training wheels, just straight up. I like watching other people make "the face" when they take the shot as I sip mine and enjoy.
Alcohol seems to be more of a challenge than an experience for you. A nice tequila shot flight with candied ginger, orange with cinnamon and of course lime and salt is another excellent way of enjoying tequila.
I discover1800 Reserva Reposado in the 90's and quit doing shots and start sipping - i love the taste!
1.) Añejo clearly has the enye (ñ) and I’m so surprised that even people that never studied Spanish don’t pick up on this.
2.) Your second pronunciation of ‘Jalisco’ was unintelligible.
3.) The thermostat is rad lmao
4.) Solid vid and I really enjoyed it, best of luck to you!
Tequila and club soda. No lemon or salt. Garnish with a lime wedge is optional but thats a typical way to drink tequila as well they drink it in Jalisco and that's how I drink it mostly.
This dude needs way more subscribers
Espolon is one of my favorites for Blonco. Definitely go with Sangrita. I prefer the tomato version better.
The sangrita is banging!
yo good vid. I have had that outro problem so many times lmao
I love simple tequila and pineapple juice over ice. Would love to drink it on a nice beach some day.
Espolon is one of my favorite tequilas! Great content! Subbed.
Bro, it such a solid tequila! Glad you enjoyed Jesus!
Best quality v price tequila out there
I would reserve Espalon for margaritas. It's not a sipper. It's a well made $25 tequila and not bad but I think it has a strong vodka note. The taste of the alcohol is more distinct than other better tequilas.
Thank you, I learned something new
Yayyyyy I love hear that!
That was really a cool presentation :)
Boy you gotta drop that reposado video, love the stuff and would love to learn more.
nice educational content! long time whisky only drinker here trying to diversivy
Thanks Mekore! If you are a whiskey drinker I would def recommend Anejo Tequila or if you want something more unique, Mezcal might be up your alley!
