I thought I'd show you 5 ways to make a margarita because we're coming up on Cinco de Mayo! Get it? This drink's become a highly customizable cocktail, so I'm making versions that cover a wide range of flavors. Sour, sweet, spicy, smoky, bitter, floral - you got it! 1/4 oz. (7.5 ml) agave nectar
2-3 slices jalapeño

1 oz. (30 ml) Marie Brizard Orange Curaçao
1 oz. (30 ml) fresh lime juice
1/2 oz. (15 ml) agave nectar
1-1.5 cups frozen strawberries
1/2 cup crushed ice

2 oz. (60 ml) Milagro Reposado Tequila
3/4 oz. (22.5 ml) Marie Brizard Orange Curaçao
3/4 oz. (22.5 ml) fresh lime juice
3/4 oz. (22.5 ml) grapefruit juice
1/4 oz. (7.5 ml) ginger syrup
Salted rim, candied ginger, and lime wheel garnish
THE HIBISCUS MARGARITA RECIPE by Shannon Mustipher 6:15

1.5 oz. (45 ml) Milagro Reposado Tequila
3/4 oz. (22.5 ml) hibiscus syrup*
3/4 oz. (22.5 ml) fresh lime juice
1/4 oz. (7.5 ml) Marie Brizard Orange Curaçao
Salted rim and lime wheel garnish
*Shannon's hibiscus syrup (scaled back from original)
In a dry saucepan, toast 2 cinnamon sticks and 3 whole cloves for 15-20 seconds. Add 1/4 cup dried hibiscus and toast for another 30 seconds. Add 2 cups simple syrup and simmer on low for 20 minutes. Remove from heat, let sit for 1 hour. Once cooled, filter off solids. Store sealed in fridge for up to 2 weeks.

I do a similar mescal margarita but I use Ancho Reyes rather than some slices of hot peppers. It's slightly sweet so I do 3/4 curacao, and 3/4 ancho reyes, and no simple (although I like my drinks less sweet so the agave syrup would still be nice).
The ginger grapefruit one makes me think of a dark and stormy had a baby with a grapefruit margarita. Perhaps call it “Tormenta de pomelo” or simply a Margarita Tormentosa

Love the Hibiscus variant. I worked in a Mexican Restaurant that had Aguas Frescas like Horchata and Jamaica. Jamaica was made in the traditional way the Mexican owners remembered from their home state of Jalisco with dried hibiscus flowers, ginger, and sugar. I simply added half ounce of fresh lemon and lime with reposado tequila and orange curacao. I called it the Quibiscus. Summertime favorite in the restaurant!

Spicy margs with Mescal are absolutely incredible, highly recommended (along with all these). Ancho Reyes liqueur also a great option instead of jalapeños for a kiss of some sweet while dialing back the heat a notch or two. Nice work as always sir 🍻
Smoke and spice
1 1/2 teq
1/2 mezcal (or less teq n more mezcal to your preference)
3/4 lime
3/4 cointreu
1/4 agave
Dash habernaro tintcure

Served up in coupe glass
Smokey. Spicy. Touch of sweet, salty, tart, acidic, dry, refreshing, boozy, tangy.
U get all.the flavors in such a simple build. And no ice to dilute. Served up for a consistsnt boozy but refreshing drink
It’s always funny when the whites discover Chile en polvo for fruits or mixed drinks.
I love the "half salt" idea. Never thought of just doing one side, and sometimes, I find myself either craving or getting sick of the salt and sweeping it off. So simple. "Facil" even.
Truly! At first I like it, but it gets old real fast.
No need to go by the traditional recipe, choose to have your cocktails according to whatever you're feeling at the moment!

Anders, I made the grapefruit-ginger version this evening. I'll definitely put this one in my rotation. I love how the grapefruit and ginger flavors are so subtle and don't compete with the tequila--beautifully balanced.
Okay, so here's an idea. Get some booze, invite some friends over and put an Anders video on repeat and everyone builds there own cocktails. An Anders party!
I love seeing the measuring cup being held onto the tint without leaving a syrup circle on the table. How convenient and what a genius creation!
I personally love using Fresno Chiles instead of Jalapeños. I think their slight flavor differences work really well with Mezcal specifically. I also love the slight red tint it gives the drink.
Definitely going to make all five of them. I frequently make a traditional margarita and sometimes make is with mezcal. The addition of the jalapeño sounds amazing.
I gasped when you introduced the hibiscus margarita. My God, that's brilliant. My thanks to Shannon for coming up with a drink which is going into my regular rotation.

My restaurant that I work at has a cocktail named “The Rude Frenchie” which is literally a margarita with Bissap (hibiscus juice in many languages but bissap in Senegal 🇸🇳!) and I love the added clove note to the SS! But I’ll use a SS we make with rosemary and honey to enrich and deepen the flavor. But instead I’d 3/4 I’ll use 1/2 because the honey is so rich. Such a great cocktail!

Fantastic timing with this video! I just finished my first version of making a chamoy margarita. a friend of mine from mexico is always saying my cocktails are sweet. So I set out to make one with a flavory profile she would like. She said she loves the taste of Chamoy. I broke down the ingredients and set out to make a cocktail have the same profile, but not feel like I just used Chamoy in a normal marg. Chamoy is made from ingredients that represent all the flavors on the palate: Sweet dried apricots, spicy chile de árbol, salty Tajín seasoning, and sour hibiscus flowers. I already was using hibiscus simple in a whiskey sour variation at the bar. But it really wasn't providing a sour taste to it. I also wanted to keep things as simple as possible so I tried to make sure I only needed one syrup for the cocktail. I decided that the heat from the chillies, the flavor from the hibiscus, and the sugar in the syrup would all work well together. But in order to really get that pop of sour I was looking for I added some citric acid to the mix. Basically, I steeped the chillies in hot water, added the dried hibiscus flowers, added citric acid to the sugar and then slowing poured in the sugar to the chillie hibiscus water, stirring the whole time. Once I had the simple syrup it was a pretty easy build of: 2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz apricot juice, 3/4 oz simple. Served with a Tajin rim. Worked really well.
I do a frozen passion margarita with a tajin rim. Also a classic with jalepeno infused tequilla. Absolutely amazing. Love the video as always Anders.
I might go for a variation of the Grapefruit Ginger one; I’ve tried Kevin Kos’ take on citrus “superjuices” from a number of weeks back, and I’ve loved them so much that I’ve been using them to create an endless supply of lemonade/limeade/orangeade. Subbing out the lime in yours for grapefruit superjuice would provide a nice, dry kick.
I've had two insanely good margaritas this year...one was a smokey mezcal, citrus, champagne mimosa and the other was a beautiful hibiscus margarita with dried flowers and fresh lime. So, so good!🍹🍹

Those are all so good! I do prefer a mix of the classic and Tommy's margarita by doing .5 oz. each of triple sec and agave syrup. Liber & Co makes a blood orange cordial that can be used to make a blood orange margarita which is also excellent. Oh, and for a bit of whimsy on May 4, slice your lime into wedges, and position them like ears on your glass. You now have a Yoda-rita!

Made the classic version last night and it was a hit with the family. I used the Milagro Reposado but substituted Grand Marnier for the orange curacao. Added just a tiny bit of agave syrup (about a 1/4 of an ounce). Tasted great! It will be fun to play around with different versions of this using other brands of tequila and such. Great video, Anders!

@@Anime-yh8qs I use 1800 for margaritas. It's more suited to it. It's somewhat fruitier and earthier. I live very far from the States, so I can't say how much cheaper it is, but it should be significant.

We'll most likely have the Smokey (Mezcal) margarita because we both love Mezcal. However, we also LOVE hibiscus. We had copious amounts of hibiscus tea when we traveled in Egypt last year and brought home dried hibiscus flowers. I think that one sounds lovely. 🌺

Have tried a variation on the 5th one. Made a JalaHibiscusPineapplepeño syrup. Came out smelling like sweet and sour sauce but it worked really well!

I've got some hibiscus-cello (limoncello, but hibiscus flowers instead of lemon rind) in the pantry, it's not quite the same as the syrup but now I've got to try that in a margarita. That combo had never occurred to me, thanks for spreading the word!

I made something similar to the grapefruit one with Fresca and jalapeño-lime juice. Was really yummy.
I did a spicy one with Hibiscus and Ancho Reyes Verde liquor. It was amazing!

LOVED all of these recipes....I even have a good sized bag of hibiscus flowers hiding somewhere in my cupboard, woo hoo! Tajin is KILLER on watermelon and mango...it's similar to what street vendors use in Mexico: lime, salt, chili!

Great video. The most memorable margarita I ever had was one with pineapple, cilantro and jalapeño. It just hit the spot walking around the French Quarter on Cinco de Mayo. Or was it the French Quarter Fest. I don’t remember.
That hibiscus margarita looks delightful. I had a hibiscus daiquiri at a taco joint near my house recently that I quite enjoyed so I imagine I'll like this one too.
The classic may be the BEST margarita I have ever had! Used Don Julio Respodo and Pierre Ferrand Curacao. Perfect balance of sweet,.tart, and bitter!

Another great video! Looking forward to trying the smoky, spicy one. There's one I want to try to make that I had in the Mexico Pavilion at Epcot at La Cava Del Tequila called The Wild One. The ingredients are Teremana Blanco Tequila, mango passion fruit puree, Ancho Verde chile liquer, lime juice, applejack and ginger cordial and with a black ant salt rim. It was delicious. Any suggestions on quantities of the ingredients would be appreciated. Keep those videos coming!

While i love a great Margarita. The Paloma has been at the top of the tequila cocktails leader board at my house for the past year or so. I use fresh grapefruit juice, Ruby Red grapefruit, when i can find it and also top off with grapefruit soda. These Margaritas look delicious!

Oh my! Found myself a new favorite drink. Thank you thank you for the spicey Margherita. Been looking for a spicey heat forward drink and this is it. Well done with the Tajin. Mmmm spicey and well balanced, you can't wash out the smoke of a good Mezcal. Used Illegal in mine.
I had a delicious cocktail in Oaxaca which was essentially a Mezcal and Pineapple, Falernum Margarita garnished w/ Sal de Gusano crispy Chapulines. Delicious!
