Can you imagine how great it was back then? I was a young Queen-Fan and rumours said, that there will be a new Queen album released at monday. Back in that days, there was a lack of information, because we didn't have internet. So I skipped school and waited infront of the record-shop in my town for over one hour to open. And yeah, they got a copy of "Innuendo" ... I bought it and had to wait to go back home as my mother would not leave the house before nine to go to work. Finally home I put on my headphones, put the record on my player and ... my mother knew me really well. Next to the record player was a slice of bread and a cold tea with a notice: "I am pretty sure you'll enjoy your new Queen record, won't you? LUV, mom xxx". That are moments in life you'll never forget :-) Good, old memories!

@Ro Mil No, I wouldn't agree! When Freddie was alive, they played at sold-out Wembley-show two days in a row and because so many people want to see them, that they made an extra concert at the near park with 120,000 people. A lot of people, ain't it? Not so much as when they played in Rio/Brazil - audience: 300.000+! :-) And Queen toured around the world on sold-out-shows with Freddie! Japan-crowd was crazy about Queen and Freddie - until today! On April 17th is the official "Queen Day" in Japan!!!

I only knew Queen through greatest hits before this album came out - then I saw the video of Innuendo, and was completely blown away! I received the album for Christmas and just devoured all it had to offer - but this song soon became my defacto #1 Queen track - it contained all the elements they had mastered over their 20 year reign - hard rock, whimsical ballad & progressive rock (almost metal), all wrapped in an epic package, complete with poignant, introspective lyrics. Lyrics whose context fit just as much in 1991 as they do now in 2020 (perhaps even more)!
That 'middle 8' section has to be one of the most epic, beautiful & heavy sections I've ever heard. Now almost 30 years later, I still get chills when Brian's guitar kicks in. Kudos to Steve Howe for the magnificent flamenco guitar section - completely set the mood for Freddie's voice and lyrics - then to completely blow us to bits!
I love your pillow, by the way - I Want To Break Free has long been another one of my top Queen faves! Cheers.

It's a masterpiece. I did not even have the benefit of watching the video, and I actually had to set the VCR on midnight in the hopes of getting it, and I finally saw it 6 months later (we didn't have streaming back in those days). If anything, the song cemented my love for Queen before Wayne's world made them popular in the US again.

This song was never played by Queen live in concert. Freddy was so sick at the time of recording that Brian thought that he would have to take over lead vocals. But, as the story goes, Freddy climbed out of his sick bed, drank most of a bottle of Vodka, then recorded the song almost in one go. Just a few tidy ups. This is one of my favourite Queen songs.
To get an idea of how Freddy looked towards the end, watch "These are the days of our lives". It was Freddy's goodbye song to the world. One you know that and gaze on how he looked, it will bring tears to your eyes.
Another song where Freddy was beginning to "show" the effects of Aids was "I'm going slightly Mad". So Freddy and the others dressed up and wore tons of makeup to protect Freddy. He simply loved the craziness of the song.

One of their last and biggest hits can't really be "overlooked" or "underrated" in a serious way, I think. You of course won't find a live performance with Freddie from this or that city like for their other hits, because there were no real live performances with Freddie after 1986. (Just playback shows with Montserrat Caballé.) But the album was a hit album, this song was a hit song, it's been discussed and revered greatly at the time and afterwards.

This is an incredible piece of writing by Roger Taylor (with contributions from Freddie). The band really came to the fore to produce amazing songs for Freddie to sing in his final months, like Roger's These Are The Days of Our Lives and Brian's The Show Must Go On. For a lot of us, this came out of nowhere in January 1991. Back then you had to be in the fan club or to read the music press to learn that the band was releasing something new and I had literallly no idea until I listened to the UK Top 40 chart show on Radio 1 the following Sunday and heard it for the very first time.

This song is very special; first of all Freddie stopped smoking and so his voice came back to the pitch of the mid 1970s and gained back its clearity.
Secondly, it was recorded very differently: Instead of their classic academic way of doing all instruments first and then doing the vocals, John, Brian and Roger came up with the song's framework during a jam session in Montreux.
At the Metropolis Studios in London (the building from the intro of the video when the clown juggles the planets), Freddie came up with the melody and wrote the lyrics together with Roger.
The recording setup was very different; they were live-jamming with 50 microphones spatially arranged around them. This is the reason the song has this "large room" feeling as if they are in a cathedral or on an indoor stage. Instead of recording the instruments first, the song's main rock sections were done as simultaneous one-go sessions: Freddie singing while the others were playing. Then they pieced it together after Freddie had done the middle orchestra section and Brian was done with the acoustic guitar part.
It is an absolute masterpiece; the audio quality is so good, it sounds as if it was made in 2021. And despite the heavy complicated rhythm it has got the typical Queen cheekiness (mankind fucks up all the time but hey "We'll keeeeeeeeeeeep on smiling yeah").
Also it is very difficult to sing - if you try this in your car as a guy, so nobody can hear you and you won't embarrass yourself, it turns out to have a lot of high notes, interconnected high passages, explosive high notes, and raspy outburst.
7:17 Show yourself, destroy our fears, releaaaaaase your maaask.
    7:30 Tread that fine liiiiiiiiiii-iii-iii-iii-iii-neeee
    7:37 We'll keeeeeeeeeeep on smiling
    And so forth.
It'st almost impossible to sing this if you don't have Mercury's Baritone-Tenor voice and a very wide vocal range with the ability to go really high.

Many people say that "Bohemian Rhapsody" is their top masterpiece, but for me, this is better.

This song, along with the album was Queen's last golden egg, collectively. As they knew the band over as we knew them Even though Brian and Roger have continued in some form. That's how I've always felt about this body of work from the original line up of Brian, Roger, John and of course, our beloved Freddie. But their reign has lasted now and forever. Nice reaction.

Great to see you back and reacting to Queen again Miss Doe. Loved your reaction to the song, summed it up very well. I've commented to you before about reacting to Breakthru from The Miracle album 1989 it's a great video and the boys are all on top form. Cheers.

This song is theatrical, like many Queen songs. I prefer the part when Freddie sing " you can be anything you want to be". I know Queen went in Italy, where i live, for Sanremo festival and for two concerts in Milan in 1984. Very strange that Freddie didn't go in Florence or Rome, two of the most artistic countries in Italy! Sorry for my english, not very good

This popped up in my recommendations after I'd been listening to Innuendo myself. It's easily my favourite Queen track and should be held in the same high regard as Bohemian Rhapsody. It kind of passed me by when it first came out (I was just about to turn 10) because even though it was a no.1 it was only in the charts for a very short time. It wasn't until a few years later that I got to hear it properly and fully appreciate it. Even though Freddie's body was failing him you can tell he's giving everything in his performance of the song - almost as if he knew each day in the studio could be the last time he got to sing.

Good for you - goose bumps is absolutely the perfect reaction. It is darkly dramatic, and yet it is so hopeful, all at the same time. Humanity, and ego - a song for the ages. How incredible that Freddie could deliver such an epic in his advanced state of illness. A stunning epitaph, for a stunning performer, from the most stunning of groups.

Each Queen member is animated in the video by an artist's style. Freddie was Leanardo Da Vinci, John Pablo Picasso. Can't remember the other two off the top of my head.

As you mentioned in your reaction video..Innuendo is not just a song..It's a musical journey..with an eclectic/philosophical approach! It's an auditory bliss for the ears (obviously) and for the eyes (the video won a Monitor Award for Best Achievement in Music Video)! Congrats for your video..and keep up on what you're doing! Greetings from 🇬🇷!

They asked guitarist Steve Howe of Yes (he was also in Asia) to play the Spanish guitar part in the middle. This came from a jam session hopefully to be released in a box set one day. Amazing what you can do when you know death is staring you in the face. Freddies last vocal performance on "Mother Love" showed this, his voice was pretty much all that was healthy at that point but he was in a lot of pain singing it.
