- Fitting Coilovers to our BMW installing some New Wheels and Remapping it to 200bhp
In this episode we change tack by modifying my wife’s BMW 1 Series. We install brand new fully adjustable MaXpeedingrods coilovers suspension with some good close up detailed shots of the installation process and some shots of it in action on the road once installed. We get a remap on the engine for a good bit of extra power and finish it all off with a new set of wheels, all in this episode and more.

This is the best BMW coil over setup guide i have viewed out of 15 other CZcams videos that left me somewhat confused when installing Maxpeedingrod coil overs! Not all of us are car (Techies) we are learners and being a teacher myself in the IT field a rule of thumb is to never assume that others will be as technically minded as yourself, treat everyone as a beginner unless specifically assessed for skills and knowledge, this step by step is great especially how to set the ride height. I have an e92 320D m Sport Coupe, and my car was lowered beyond the factory spec when i purchased the car and was unknown to me at the time. The UK British roads are a pot hole hell highway with speed bumps everywhere not enough clearance that causes damage to control arms and anti-roll bars and even alignment, finding videos such as this are rare and upbuild father and son should be commended. Ah that’s great to hear, we’d really like to do more of a verity of old and new on our channel. Seams them biggest challenge is getting CZcams to share the video when it something different to our usual content like this.

The front it's very similar to my 206. I didn't have that spreading socket and was a nightmare to remove the strut from that "clamp". Great video!

Another great video. The tool for opening up the front hub is a must get. Hope to see an update on the Mini soon.
Yeah we hope to have another episode on it soon. We’ve been tying of a few jobs on the workshop so that we can crack on with the Mini.
One series looks great 👍🏻. I’ve always just undone the pinch bolt then hammer the hub downward.. strut top mount bolts last to come off. ... cracking job done.. I would upgrade the front brakes then maybe an exhaust 👍🏻..

Now the BMW has more power and better road holding will the next video be changing the pads (green stuff)and disks from EBC. Having had the on my car they have saved me from "T" boning another car

I was quite surprised to see the amount of corrosion there was. I'm in Canada and we use salt on the roads in the winter which causes plenty of corrosion as well...
Makes a nice change to mix it up a bit. Your dad's getting very chatty now lol.

My 130 has 18’ wheels…but may be a bit harsh on rural roads.
Good stuff lads, I think if you're making it faster a new set of discs and pads at the back wouldn't go amiss, they're shot.

Quite brilliant. I love the Son / Dad vibe. It’s precious and more so than the hugely useful videos you produce for us subscribers. My suggestion would be dump the Diesel engine and drop in a tuned V10 from the E60 M5.
V10 would be incredible. I quite like the idea of e92 m3 v8 and running gear, plus it all bolts straight into the e80s 1series chassis 😁

How big did you cut the hole on the strut tower bar? I have the same suspension but the bar isn’t secured, I noticed you clipped that part out of the video

Hi. I use a step drill, and took it to roughly 20mm, I can check for definite if needed but it was just to leave enough room for clearance.
Needs a rear spoiler…the 1 series should all be fitted with rear spoiler..rounds the look out.
Definitely, I agree the rear spoiler does finish it off a bit and help with the lines of the car.
.. I modded my wife's 02' WRX years ago to a JDM spec Sti.. all I got for it was her bitching about tickets running around town.. yet she lever once refused a stop light drag or lifted her foot off the loud pedal..

Hi the suspension fit great, only little issue I had was I need to drill a hole in the strut braces to access the adjustment on the top of the shocks on the front of the car.
You can see this at 11:28 in the video
When you are in there, clean up all the nuts and bolts that might need undone one day. Remove rust and protect with lube. You know you want to !

how much of a hit to MPG did the remap make?
Hi, we’ve been driving it with the remap for about a couple of weeks now and there’s very little noticeable difference with mpg. All of our travels are short journeys and the area we live in is very hilly, so it’s averaging around 35mpg, which is about the same as before. It does over 50mpg on a longer run usual, but we haven’t been on a long run since the remap yet.

How have the coilovers held up so far?
Hi, they were fine up until the last time I used the car. I put the car off the road for the winter so only did a couple hundred miles on them.

silly question...when you were showing the new wheels in the video you placed your tablet on the roof of the car....i just wondered why you left it dangling half way over the edge rather than place the whole thing on the roof..lol..?
Hi, thanks for the questions. We’re build the Mini because it something we enjoy doing, and we’d like to maybe take it to a few shows, and enjoy it. Once it finished we’ll carry on with a different project on another car, not sure what it might be though. This it was just the camera angle that made the iPad look like it was hanging off, but your right I could of pushed it farther on the roof haha.

Be careful with maxpeedingrods I just installed mine. And the front right snapped. Not sure if it was due to how they were installed but thank god everyone was fine.
