  • The prequel to Mini Motorways, Mini Metro is a fantastic minimalist puzzle game where you design and manage train networks in the style of underground subway maps. I looks fantastic, but will my professional engineer skills help me in Mini Metro?

    About Mini Metro:
Mini Metro is a minimalistic subway layout puzzle game. Your small city starts with only three unconnected stations. Your task is to connect them with subway lines. Everything but the line layout is handled automatically; trains run along the lines as quickly as they can, and the commuters decide which trains to board and where to make transfers.
However the city is constantly growing, along with the transport needs of its population. How long can you keep the subway system running before it grinds to a halt?

  • @OriginalPiMan
    @OriginalPiMan Před 2 lety +4

Advanced Strat: keep one line and train in reserve, and then when a station overcrowds, you can draw a line from there to somewhere that would relieve the pressure. Once the train is on its way and the pressure is lifted, remove the line to put it back in reserve.

    • @flamee7388

Even more advanced strat: make only one line with one of each shape, and keep all other lines as "taxi line", currently at 2500 in london, have pretty much zero pressure all around the map, the only downside is that you will pause a lot, and game will become less fun but hey, that's a downside i can take, in exchange of probably infinite run and top 1 in the world

    2. If you make the corners 90deg or bigger the train will speed past if there's no passengers getting on/off.
    3. You can make lines loops!
    4. Don't be afraid to delete all lines and setup again. A centrally located hub is ideal.

The shape of the line matters. For example your red line had a sharp turn in it that slows down all the trains that pass through. The more you can have the line be straight or a slight curve the more the train can maintain speed through the station (especially if there are no passengers waiting). Also, if a line crosses another line it seems the trains will slow down a little at the point where the lines cross.

Circular lines are more efficient because the stations at the end of the line receive tranes as freguently as the ones in the middle
Try to avoid stacking the same shapes in a row, the best way of putting down paths is to make them with a reasonable ratio of different shapes getting the train
Make your paths meet in a square as its the rarest among triangles and the circles, and then put you interchange in the place that the paths meet together

Just so you know, if you click in the middle of an existing line, you can adjust it, it doesn't have to be at the end. This is helpful for lines that have sharp turns, as sharp turns slow down your trains and are inefficient.
You can also delete entire lines, which is helpful for when you have a bunch of new stations and need to make everything more organized
    Good work though!
EDIT: every line comes with a train *if* you have a train available, otherwise there's no trains for the line to use

The key in this game is to cut down travel distance. Because your trains have only 6 spaces without carriages you cannot afford to have a passenger block a seat for long stretches of track since it will make your throughput plummet. Circular lines with trains going in both directions are very good because of that.

Longer the line/track, the more carriages you want. More popular a stop is, the more trains you need. Loops are very confident

Tip: If you press the clock, you can get the game to progress faster. Another tip: press the line color at the bottom to delete the entire line and redraw from scratch.
Pro tip: combine those 2 tips to get past the boring early game.

Golden tip: The trains slow down on a line crossing. You can actually pick up a line and move it (to avoid obstacles, to shorten the distance or to untie the lines).

2000+ tips, get only max 6 lines, get carriages, MAKE ALL CIRCLE LINES!!!, reserve 1-2 lines and 2-3 locomotives to put them in an emergency and get rid of them, IT DOESN'T COST A THING!!! and extend the time and increase the number of passengers!!!

People have probably already pointed this out, but you can grab a line in between two stations to add new stations and unselect already present stations all along the line without having to grab the T and move the end station every time. Stations are added to the point where you first grabbed the line, so if you want to add a station in between two already existing stations, you need to grab the line in between those stations, or you might get some really wonky-looking lines.
You can also move and remove trains from lines at any time. They will travel to their next station and drop off whatever passengers they are carrying, and then teleport to wherever you dropped it. Carriages work the same, and are also transferred to the train/line you dropped it onto once they reach the next station.
This is useful, because you can micromanage and juggle overcrowded stations by at any time moving trains from less stressed lines to pick up passengers from ones with a timer. I'm not great at this game, but I've survived weeks longer than I normally would by doing this.

Ghost-lining is a good idea: drag a line from a crowding station to a relevant destination and delete the line as soon as the train departs, then you can draw another one and another as long as you have trains on your inventory. The deleted lines become transparent like ghosts and disappear as soon as the train arrives at the nearest station and unloads people. Then the train goes either back to the inventory or your next pending line. There can be quite a few ghost lines at the same time depending on your locomotive park.
This way helps unload crowded stations on the go. I always keep the last line for this purpose.
There's another hack with ghost-lining. Say, there's 5 round-guys and 1 plus-guy on a station. I drag a line from that station to the round-station nearest to the plus-station, so that the train picks up all 5+1 passengers. But keep in mind the direction of your locomotives if you drag a ghost-line to a circle line. Make sure that the plus-guy has the shortest distance left to travel to the plus-station after it gets off with its 5 round fellow passengers. If the departure station and the plus-station are on the same line, then just draw your ghost-line to the round-station and continue to the plus-station. Otherwise, the plus-guy will think it useless to get on your ghost-line and the locomotive will depart with one vacant seat.
As has been said in the comments, loop lines are more effective than non-loops. They're more effective if you give them two trains moving in opposite directions.

its more efficient if you loop the lines and make them a circle so the train dose not have to go to the end of the U from the start of the U and make 90 degree turn so the train dose not stop at the station when there are no passengers and it will pick up the other stations passengers

A proven strat for me is to:
-connect every line with every basic shape (at least one square, one triangle, one circle)
-try not to build a line with to many same shapes in a row. Try to build your line with triangles and circles alternately and with one square somewhere in that line.
-and try to build a line that connects all the special stations, with every other line having access to this line somehow.
There is also no penalty in the game for stopping the game and completely redrawing the map, you should definitely do this from time to time, so your network gets more efficient.
Also: only cross Lines on stations, otherwise the trains will be slower every time they drive over a crossed line.

  • @ChemicalCrash
    @ChemicalCrash Před 2 lety

Not sure if anyone mentioned, but you can pull at the middle of an existing line and drag it to a new station to add a station in the middle of that line. This also works to remove a station. To delete an entire line, click the corresponding colored dot at the bottom of the screen, then click the “X” that pops up. You can pull trains off of a line and move them to another line if you wish; just click, drag, and drop. Also, harsh angles in the line reduces acceleration speed, including at stations. Try to avoid them, or use the grab and pull maneuver to remove and then re-add a station. The game will try to give the optimal angle when it can. Finally, yes, as others have said, loops are your friend in this game. You can actually put two trains on a loop going in opposite directions to provide optimal passenger flow. (Clockwise + Anti-Clockwise…isn’t that how our British friends say it?)
    Loving your content! 😊

    a Few tips
    Use Circular lines when needed
interchange stations, don't put more than two stations of the same type in a Row even if you have to zigzag the line
if Square passengers get on a train from a Circle station and there's 3 circle and 2 triangle stations ahead, That passenger won't get off quickly and the Train might be full for too long.
If you have a Square station only triangle and circle and special passengers will pop in it.
passengers will choose the shortest route to their destination
sometimes you have to pause and delete everything and start over.
    New Lines mean efficiency
    More Carriage means capacity
you have to find the perfect balance.
only 4 Locomotives can be on the same line
each game has preferred destination sometimes it's the Circle or Square .... etcetera.
most new stations are circles i don't know why.

  • @Kartaal
    @Kartaal Před 2 lety

Shorter lines are the best lines.
Sequences of the same stations are bad. It means passengers will get stuck in the middle stations as trains are filled.
Interchanges are interchanges. Use them as (rare) focal points in your transport system.
Unlike in Mini Motorways, you can a lot more rapidly restructureyiur entire system (a train only needs to reach its next station to be available for redistribution).
Each week gives you another train, putting down a line without an available train means it won't have any (or you could generate trains from nothing).
Personally I've had good experiences with making one or two lines specifically for the more unique stations and pushing those passengers through some core stations (that could serve well for interchanges).
Have fun with the 5+ chains of circles on one half of the map. Its frustratingly common 😁

Wenn you have a red line with only circles an connect it to your main line they will go out at the station and wait for another train to pick them up to the location they want
You also can take the line between two stations an connect it to another
It is better when you don't have 3 same stations in row
