make sure the filter is unplugged, as being plugged in below the fill line will create a horrendous noise and cause damge to the filter.
make sure the filter hose is extended into the tank
fill the fish tank to the minimum fill line for the top fin filter not above and not under
make sure the filter housing is full of water
plug in the filter an wait for the air bubbles to cease
pour in water at a large volume (i use a 3 gallon bucket) till you reach your fish tanks prefered maximum
if the filter flow starts to drip, you should have full flow within a couple hours - Hry

Hey thanks for the video after messing around with the filter a little I found that the small pump detaches and can be cleaned. Gunk builds up in there and slows the rpm and airflow Just wash it out and you’ll be fine. Works like new every time now thanks so much!
Thanks for the tip! I tried the video's suggestions and unfortunately didn't have any luck, but after cleaning the pump/fan and getting the gunk out, problem solved! I'll definitely be plugging the filter into an outlet on it's own now rather than a strip like I had been.
That may well be, but my pump has been awal since the day i opened the box

Your very welcome, this was just stress during my first water change
What I did that helped me was the following:
1. Unplug and remove filter
2. Take apart the filter and rinse very well
3. The piece with the propeller blade does come off, and this part was COMPLETELY clogged. I had to work really hard to clean it.
4. Put back all the pieces together
5. Add water to the filter
6. Plug back in
i’ll try that right now because it’s not even making a noise
My filter is brand new and does this lol

Was just about to put the old filter back in when the water started to flow back into the tank.
.priming is only mentioned in microscopic images in the instruction manual...like so many products the manufacturer hopes for a foul up and return by the first timers...u tube contributors...bless u...thanks 20 gallon man...well done!

So I'm having the same problem with my top fin 20-gallon fish filter I took out the valve that opens and closes. I had to fix the washer inside it's not sealing properly therefore there's no suction.
Thank you very much! This fix worked for me. I just picked up my tank and my filter was not pumping and I couldn’t figure it out but once I put water in the filter it go started up and was good to go!

Thanks. Mine was brand new out the box. What I did was fill the tank up, fill the filter, then plug it in. Once you hear the motor kick in start pouring in water into the filter. Spread the water from side to side. Wherever you see gaps in the water use more water in those areas as you refill the filter. I refilled the filter about 6-7 times before I got it going. FYI my water level on the tank was almost to my desired level when I did this, so I used tap water for the first two refills, once my desired level was reached I simply used the water in the tank. Hope this helps. 🫡

My aquarium has been running for 2 weeks no issues we added fish today and the water pump filter and waterfall cut off when i plug it back in it doesnt make a sound... any ideas?
If you tried the steps mentioned in my video, all i can recommend doing is taking it apart and cleaning or trying the wall not an extension
Also did you always make sure to have the water above the minimum range? If you didnt you may have burned out the pump

It just needs to be primed. After filling the tank to at least the minimum, pour water into the filter until it runs as it should. The directions kind of suck, I think it only mentions priming in fine print.
Mine is not working at all and you can hear it wants to it’s jus dripping water
My filter was working perfectly fine, but when I put in filter floss it started to do a loud hum and stopped pumping water
Take your filter apart, its possible it got jamed into the spinning part

Mines doing this brand new, hasn’t run for even 30 minutes. Just dripping super slow like almost drip acclamation slow. Can’t fix it tried all your tricks

@@Thatloud1500 last 2 tips i can saw are to make sure its not plugged into a extension of any kind, make sure its plugged directly to the wall
Also when I spill the water in my tank i use a 3.8gal buckets worth of water, how much are you using?
@@Ricktofenable I used about a gallon extra, I’m going to get a sponge filter tomorrow. Only breeding neocaridina so don’t need a lot of filtration.

Just installed mine, absolute garbage. It makes a horrible noise, doesn’t flow any water out, I filled over the min required, I checked the water flow adjuster and the impeller , unplugged for 10 mins and still doesn’t work.
I'm having this problem too, I just got mine and it's not working, I've watched so many videos and it just won't work
you also have to fill the unit with water before starting!
possibly have to keep adding water till the sound goes away, but do not use the water from the tank! anything you take out of the tank is kinda removed from the unit
@@Ricktofenable I've tried that, the back of the filter is full and I've tried adding more water, and making sure the impeller is in properly and it still isn't working, I've left it on for a while so see if it would pull the water up and still nothing
