- My Tetra Whisper Filter is clogged and not working correctly. Tetra Whisper hang-on-the-back fish tank filter is my favorite most used aquarium filter in the fish room. However, they get stopped up and need to be maintained from time to time. I invited you to watch if you need to know how to clean your Whisper fish tank filter. Remember, don't over-clean your filters. Don't wash away all of your beneficial bacteria.

Y’all are my heros! The whisper filter in my snail tank just decided to stop running. I would have went out in a panic to buy a new one but luckily I checked CZcams for tips and found your video. Calcium from the super hard water built up and I was able to get it clean and running again! Thank you!! 🐌❤

My filter became clogged wasn't bad but enough to stop it from pumping i knew i needed to clean it but didn't know how to take it apart and then your video showed me how to do thank a lot definitely leaving a like and definitely subscribing

Awesome video but how do I replace motor it self
I brought a used 20 gal (high) Aquarium that came with a tetra whisper internal 10-30i. This filter must have been the OLD style since I had to unscrew 2 bolts to remove the bottom strainer. Under the strainer there was a 40 gph submersible pump unit that I couldn't figure how to remove the impeller. I removed all the visible caked on flake food from the intakes of the pump. I then run the pump unit in a pail of hot tap water, I changed the water three times before the pump stop coughing up old fish food flakes. I then let the pump unit run in a pail of white vinegar and hot water solution for a few minutes to hopefully dissolve any mineral deposits around the magnet and impeller. I haven't placed this filter into service yet but I think I'll try to put some pre filter material (filter floss and a nylon sock?) around the bottom strainer assembly to prevent the pump from clogging.
where do i get that clip from on the back mine keeps sliding down the tank so maybe that would stop it sliding

My pump has 2 screws in the bottom ,did this pump also have ? Do u have to take them out to get to impellor ?
I have a whisper hang on filter for my 5 gallon tank. I've only had it about 2 months and every thing was fine until today I noticed that it is bubbling up inside the filter. If I lift the cartrige up just a little then the water goes under the filter and the bubbling stops. Maybe there's build up in there too.

Welcome, thank you! You could use anything scratchy, something you find helpful to remove buildup! I think sandpaper would be easiest.
In my case it was all clean as a whistle but there was a tiny string that had wound up in there and stopped the impeller's action
Same! For me it was a piece of Java moss
As long as it took to clean the impeller, you would be ahead to buy a couple extra so you can swap them out and soak the bad ones in vinegar.
Hi, I have the same filter but I don’t know if I’m weak or if my filter just isn’t separating but I cannot separate both parts to get to the propeller. It’s the newer model as well so I can’t see any screw. Is it supposed to be a little difficult to separate?
Same here. I kinda tried to pull the bottom off but it didn’t seem to want to come, so I didn’t think it would come off. Then I watched this video and now I wish I would’ve yanked it off anyway🙄😂 The worst I could’ve done is break it right? Unfortunately, I’ve already thrown my filter away though.
I recently found out you just need to keep pulling it’s really stubborn but after you remove it once it gets easier next time. I almost through it out too haha
