    great video bud. I also have a 05 sportsman 700 efi as well.. I just did this hack and it did not turn on the awd indicator on my instrument cluster. I was able to have the awd light come on on the instrument cluuster before doing this mod by pressing the override button. Now the over ride button does not work. I need to know if this mod makes the awd light on and stay on? Also.. Is there supposed to be a awd light next to the off on switch? Thanks in advance.

      Hey Jay. Unforutnatley my gauge cluster is broken and so Im not sure what lights come on. I do know that this mod caused my AWD to begin working again however even with the broken cluster. I also don't have a AWD light beside the on/off switch.Sorry I can't be more help on this.

      @@sawingwithsandy I did test the AWD after trying this mod and it worked great. It does disable the light on the cluster though. That's why I wasn't sure it was working.. @justincase5228 Před rokem

      Guys, if the speedometer assembly is toast then a lot of things won't work: the speedo itself, the backlight for that, the odometer, the voltage regulator, the AWD-related LED on the right handlebar, the driving assembly of the front two wheels during AWD, the low/high headlight, the Override button on the left handlebar. Probably 75% of older Polaris Sportsman ATVs have a fried speedometer, it's a terrible design. Typically, if the battery is low then the alternator's output spikes the incoming DC voltage and the TO48 power transistor inside the speedometer assembly then tries to consume that. It then gets so hot (360 degrees Fahrenheit) that it literally desolders itself from the circuit board and drops into the speedo assembly. So now, the two logic chips on the board can't work, there's no 12V/5V references for anything and like I indicated before, lots of things just stop working.

    Nothing is ever easy to get to on these things. lol. They have gotten a little better with it in the newer models...but it seems the problems exist no matter.

    • @sawingwithsandy
      @sawingwithsandy  Před 5 lety +2

      Yeah I hear you. To work on anything on these machines I have to take half the plastics off it seems. I also learned quickly that the sportsman is very electronic. No more mechanical this mechanical that I guess. Ah well.

    • @NorthCountryBoyz
      @NorthCountryBoyz Před 5 lety

      Definitely much easier removing plastics on the newer models...kind of. Except having to replace push pins every time I take the plastics out. Though they made most everything electrical much easier to get to. I know for my 04 sportsman I had to replace the steering shaft...not fun. A nightmare getting all the plastics off and back on again. Is what it is though...older ones still outlast the newer ones!

      I accidentally parked my ATV in a spot I shouldn't have and realized it just as I was cutting down a tree and spotted the ATV in the corner of my eye. Lucky for me the tree landed on the front storage box and only ripped off the front light and speedo and bent the bracket that holds the steering shaft. Hard to believe but it didn't damage the steering shaft besides bending the handle bars.

    • @NorthCountryBoyz
      @NorthCountryBoyz Před 5 lety +1

      Sawing with Sandy very lucky it was the wheeler and not you. Been there once before and got out of the way just in time. Really surprised it didn’t doing anything with the steering shaft! Really does stink that had to happen though. I wrecked my wheeler into a group of saplings. Which is how I bent mine. I was pinned under the wheeler. Walked away with just a really good bruise on the leg. How I walked away alive. Miracle. Wheeler on the other hand I had to replace all the plastics...steering. Axles. A arms. Was fun. Would have made a good “how to and what not to do video” 😂
