I had my third, but first unmedicated birth today, used the comb, kept standing the entire time, and controlled and focused on my breathing. Rocking and swaying my body the entire time. It was a 3 hour active labor, only 1 hour of real pain, and 15 minute pushing. I’m in awe of myself for getting it done finally, instead of panicking. Thanks for these great great videos! 💖

I would highly recommend a doula to anyone going into their first delivery if they want to go pain med free. Not all L&D nurses are as awesome as you! I have had 3 wonderful, pain med free deliveries and decided to go with a doula for my third baby. I also happened to have the most awesome nurse ever who offered me everything they had at the hospital to do things naturally. Peanut ball was awesome for getting my baby down. Probably my favourite thing the doula had me use was a heat pack on my pelvis while I was having the worst of the contractions before pushing. At no point during my delivery did I have that “I can’t do this” moment. A really good support team can make a huge difference!

Thank you for this video! I gave birth 2 days ago to my third baby. I had to have pitocin, but I was able to have my first baby without pain relief meds/epidural! The comb was definitely helpful and constantly moving around!

I laughed when you said to practice breathing techniques when you are having a poop because we are constipated 😆 I'm 33 weeks and haven't been constipated at all, but I've had every awful symptom otherwise. It's the small things I guess 👍

I realize that I used the focal point pain control method without realizing it during a very painful surgery that I had. I was incredibly focused on one of the monitors every time they went in to do the painful parts. Very interesting.

I have a comb! My favorite technique is 🌟 dissociation 🌟 (schizophrenia has its perks sometimes-- especially when it comes to pain 😂)

I was looking at some alternative child-birthing positions than laying down and I saw some people mention partner included positions and one in particular that caught my eye was one they called 'slow dancing'. Seeing that birth sling reminded me of it because they basically hold and support you while you deliver. It also felt like it was just a mash up of a lot the points you brought up; touch, support people, movement, being upright, (and possibly focal point and aromatherapy if they have like a smell to focus on perhaps?). I don't know I just felt like sharing, haha. Either way this was very informative!

Ooh! I hadn't heard about using a comb. I am definitely going to give that a try during my induction on Monday. This method reminds me of when you're trying to not itch somewhere and you itch in a different place in order to trick your brain. Thank you

Don't forget music! I was all set with a birthing playlist but found it too jarring every time the songs switched. So my husband suggested I pick one song with a good cadence and put it on a loop. I ended up riding out most of my contractions to the tune of Let It Go from Frozen. Surprisingly effective! 😂

If anything, my severe lactose intolerance has prepared me for breathing and visualization through labor. Some lactose episodes have been so wild, I can't imagine childbirth is a worse pain that what I've already felt.
