  • Being prepared for labor and childbirth is something most people want to accomplish. But if I told you that learning how to BREATHE with your body and your labor contractions is one of the most important steps to that preparation? Sounds simple, right? But it's actually something we need to learn about and PRACTICE before the big day and baby's arrival!
In this video I go over 6 different breathing techniques for:
    1. Active Labor
    2. Transition
    3. Laboring Down
    4. Pushing Open Breaths
    5. Pushing Closed Breaths
    6. Crowning

Due in April- watching this, saving this, taking this to the hospital with me, hoping and praying I have a nurse like you.

Breathing techniques that I was taught felt unnatural and counter intuitive. Maybe it was never explained well, but I have a high pain tolerance and have learned to breathe my way through severe menstrual pain all my life, which really helped. I knew how to breathe and relax my pelvic floor naturally, and I wanted the people around me to leave me alone and let me focus. I liked in through my mouth and out through my nose. I liked some short panting breaths. I did not want to over breathe or hold my breath. I am also a singer with lots of breathing practice in that context but I don't know if that was helpful or not.
I was in transition before I knew I was in labour the first time, and the second time went from 4cm to babe in arms in 12 minutes with only four contractions when my water broke. First time, I slept between pushes. Second time, I heard a noise before I realized it was coming from me! I think that was the open-glottis pushing that you describe. My body was pushing all by itself as I squatted.
Labouring down breathing sounds like a great tip.
I did tear both times. First time it had to do with baby's position. Second time, it was size and lack of rotation, but this time I clearly remember feeling like I had sat on a firecracker! It wasn't until I heard my four year old say, 'I can see the baby's nose' that I was brought back to the moment.

My first baby is due in 2 months and I really want to try to do it without epidural, but I'm worried about panicking, so this breathing video really helped. There are so many types of breathing to remember though! I might have my husband read me the next one throughout the labour haha

Thank you for this video. Almost had my third without the epidural and got absolutely terrified when they said it was my last chance to get one. I'm super confident this time around and will definitely utilise these techniques with the help of my teen who wants to be in the room to cheerlead her momma 🎉❤
She turns 15 right before baby is due and this is one birthday wish I will grant her because the start of covid did not allow her in the room the last time around. She is also hoping to one day be a L&D nurse and this might help her decide if it's for her or not 😅

I look forward to the weekend to watch your videos and I'm not even pregnant, just really interested in L&D.

Dear Tina, thank you so so much for all the info. 39+4, I had one massive contraction wave (like a typical period for me) throughout the night (!?!), nothing today but surely it's gonna be soon. Now reviewing the most crucial videos for during labor, esp positions and breathing, and trying to not freak out. May I suggest please make a survival playlist with the most essential stuff to revise, the current one for labor is 24 videos - a treasure trove of info but I think you know what I mean by "survival" type 😅

For the crowning small controlled breathing are you going? Ha ha ha each time you push push push?

Do you have any tips on recognizing you are actually in transition? I just freaked out and didn’t understand I was in transition (even though I had read about it) until after I delivered. I was just having a very unlike me meltdown.

    • @mamanursetina
      @mamanursetina  Před 3 měsíci +1

Exactly that. It’s the time where I hear most people doubt themselves or feel a sense of panic. Also vomiting is pretty common.

How do I remember all these during labor, especially the active stage of labor?🥹🥹

    • @mamanursetina

So your job is to practice practice before labor starts. And then…your nurse or midwife and your partner (who also practices and learns the routine!) keep you on track!
