Michael Stripe was a friend of Kurt Cobain. He once joked in an interview that Kurt sang "yeah, yeah" so many times in Nirvana songs that he decided to beat him at it, that's why he sang 54 "yeahs" in this song.
It wasn't written for the movie, as it came out about 7 years before. But it was used in the movie.
Now their song' The Great Beyond' was written for the movie.
I went all the way through school and Hebrew school with Andy. This song always makes me cry and smile at the same time. May his memory be for a blessing. Loving your show here in Neo-Tropical Costa Rica

Andy Kaufman did an incredible Elvis impersonation. So good that Elvis himself said he was the best he ever seen. It's here on CZcams. Jim Carey was a huge Andy fan and got robbed of an Oscar portraying him in man on the moon.
Do Texarkana! Excellent bass line. In fact, the bassist, Mike Mills, sings the lead on it instead of Michael Stipe. Mills also wrote the song (it is credited to all 4 band members, though). Great driving song.
"radio free europe" and " So. Central rain ( I'm sorry" are geat songs by REM.
Night Swimming ain't bad either
Kaufman's character with the accent was known as Foreign Man and he used that accent on Taxi when he was Latka...

Yeah, this song is from the Jim Carrey movie about Andy Kaufman. Love the song. Especially the yeahs in the backing vocals they added during the last few repetitions of the chorus for some weird reason.

REM means rapid eye movement, but in his rock & roll hall of fame speech, lead singer said that his grandmother said that it means Remember Every Moment, which i thought was so sweet. Actually REM and the B-52's have one thing in common, they both formed in Athens, GA in the late 70s and early 80s.
I can still remember where i was when first hearing the song.
I was stopping at my grandparents for the weekend when this had it's tv premiere on the ITV chart show, on a Saturday morning.
I can still picture myself sat on the floor, infront of the TV.

This song came out in 1992 when Danny Devito was getting the movie "Man on the Moon" together and getting ideas this song was very popular and always on the radio. The film production company approached R.E.M. to score the movie and to use this song and its title for the film. They also wrote another original song " The Great beyond" for the film and soundtrack (awesome music video BTW) which is also about Andy kaufman. I think the Man on the Moon movie was released in 1999. You really should also watch the music video to this fantastic song.

The opening lyric - 'Mott the Hoople' were a British rock group from the 1970's. They had a big hit with 'All the young dudes' written by David Bowie which is well worth reacting to. If you don't believe that they put a man on the moon then there's no hope for y'all! Cheers.

Check out any of the songs off thier album Life's Rich Pageant. They are all great-IMO its by far thier best album--Fall on Me, Cuyahoaga, Begin the Begin, even Underneath the Bunker...all fantastic. it may be a bit less polished than their later stuff, but the writing and arrangements were very good.

A coworker of mine is the son of Apollo astronaut Jim Irwin who went to the moon. I believe it with all my heart. I wasn't there with them, but I believe it for sure.

One of my favorites R.E.M song is "it's the end of the world"(as we know it) still relevant lirics on it also I still trying to sing along over that song without screwed it up myself lol.
The “trick” to it is to NOT think about it, as soon as I think it’s gone! (some SOAD are the same for me).
It’s a cart and horse thing… The song came out first and when the time came to make a movie, they basically said well there’s no way we can pass this up and use the song because it fit perfectly and hence they decided to name the movie, the same as the song…

@CSmith6887 at the same time as the weasel 😀. They moved from an independent to a major label about the time of Green I think. I would say they got a bit more accessible and commercial sounding from Out Of Time onwards - personally not such a big fan of that album or Automatic, although Monster was a bit of a return to form (at least the form I preferred)
They didn't go pop. Pop went REM for a few years. They always wrote catchy songs.
@daneng3641 all their singles were catchy, but that's in the nature of singles. But there's a big difference between Radio Free Europe and Shiny Happy People in my eyes. I define pop, in this context, as not rock. They were a raw, guitar driven rock band with poppy moments at first. They went to a singer-driven pop band with string sections in every other song and occasional rocky moments. Still a cut above bit not so much for independent radio and much more for the mainstream

YMCA definitely a religious company. But they don't care if you're religious and you wanna work out there. That's my favorite of all gyms, even though I'm not religious. Just because they don't play that obnoxious music while I work out and I can listen to my own music. You know, like rappers, react and all that stuff.😊💪

no need to be defensive about it, its not a matter of faith. if someone stripped butt naked in a shopping mall you would have evidence without having to look to hard even if you were not there (in all propability the information would be catered to you if you were living in the area where it happened). it is implausible for humans to fake all the evidence like radio signals receivable world wide with the correct time delay (moon - earth, time delay varies ever so slightly around the world because earth is essentially a space-ball with a somewhat chubby mid-section) and also keep quiet about faking it. the soviet union never (to my knowledge) contested it and they were pretty much to the us what the republican party is to the democratic party today. the people who deny it are usually the type that have evidence that the earth is flat and balanced on the back of a turtle, tell you the world is secretly gouverned by the rothschilds and want to talk to you urgently about the benefits of crypto currency. jk, i wouldnt know any of them.
