"What's so civil about war anyway?" That's a powerful line.
Amen brother ! 😎💪❤️🇺🇸
ACtually, I always found that line to be a little embarrassing. Too obvious to be deep.
@@MarkMay-cr6bv it's an oxymoron, that's why.
Look at the shoes your filling
Look at the blood we're spilling
Look at the world we're killing
The way we've always done before... 💯
@@PML78 “look at the leaders we follow.”
Rocket queen, night train, appetite for destruction is one of the greatest albums ever made
Rocket Queen is one of the most underrated songs ever. What a fucking jam!!!
@WolfFX13 I agree 🤘🏽😎
😂
Hell yeah 👍
By far the best debut album EVER!!
You cant trust FREEDOM
WHEN IT'S
NOT IN YOUR HANDS
When everyone is fighting for the promise land ....
If your favorite GnR song is 'November Rain', then you would like 'Estranged'.
I second Estranged. My number one GNR song
We found out today that there is indeed 1 person in this world that has “Chinese Democracy” as their favorite GnR album
Yeah, that admission really surprised me. 🤣
I have never even listened to Chinese Democracy.
Your missing out
I really enjoy that album. Sure, it isn't the typical GnR we all know but it has some great songs on it. Like Madagascar, a very underrated song.
That's a pretty wild take when the same band is also responsible for Appetite for Destruction...one of the greatest rock albums ever made lol
Strother Martin giving the speech at the start of the song. From the movie Cold Hand Luke. The intro and outro whistle by Axl are the old American Civil War song When Johnny Comes Marching Home. The interlude quotes a Peruvian Shining Path guerilla officer. This song are the only one that featured the original drummer Steven Adler. The rest was done by Matt Sorum.
Came here to say this. Great movie.
Gnr were a mixture of all genres because of their influences
A powerful song, a master piece…
You gotta check out “Get in the ring”. Also from Use Your Illusion.
Top 3 Guns and Roses songs
1. "It's so Easy"
2. "Nightrain"
3. "November Rain"
I have to add Rocket Queen
@@JL-is9rgWhich lends credence to Appetite as their best album.
The opening speech comes from the movie Cool Hand Luke early 70’s,
Just another badass whistle intro 🤘🏽😎
You got it right when you said every war is a civil war. Incredibly powerful and sadly apparently eternally relevant song.
This song came out when many countries around the world were having civil wars like in El Salvador. I loved it since the first time I heard it!
Gums N Roses did my favorite cover of Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door”.
anything out of appetite for destruction, use your illusion 1 , use your illusion 2 all is a banger
Look at the shoes your filling
Look at the blood were spilling
Look at the world were killing
THE WAY WEVE ALWAYS DONE BEFORE... 🇺🇸
I don't know how, but Smokey rockin' the shades and the wig a little too well lol
He looks like Steven Adler the drummer of Guns and Roses
When my fellow Ginger Hoosier gets on the piano GnR songs go to another level. The November Rain live performance with Elton John at the 92 MTV awards is amazing. Axl and Elton on the piano together is next level.
You can't imagine how it feels to see them play this Live.
Axl Has Been Super Loud About Politics Forever!! He Has A Zero B.S. Tolerance!! If You See The Live Version Notice The Jacket Changes!!
He also admired Charles Manson. He was a goof.
@@johnsambo9379 He Was Fascinated By The Control & Obsessiveness Of Cults In General!
He gets his info from readers digest!
Chinese Democracy is your favorite GNR album? 😮😳
You gotta understand, when this album coming out, it was an epic release. Even though we had GnR Lies, that was just an EP, so we had waited since Appetite for this release, and it was 2 albums. Use Your Illusion I & II were incredible, and still are. It was also an epic time for music, as we had like a dozen releases all released withing a few months of each other. Simply a great time for music, and a great time to be in college and angsty. Lol
1991 was an amazing year for rock and metal, so many classic albums released:
Use Your Illusions 1+2
The Black Album - Metallica
Arise - Sepultura
Never Mind - Nirvana
Just to name a few!!
It's more societal than political. It's more about what society is willing to tolerate and accept.
Best Gn'R song right there
The beginning from the movie "Cool Hand Luke" is epic.
Rocket Queen is one of the best songs that encapsulates GNR talent
Agree!
The first album will always be my favorite album. I love the rest but the first one has so many good songs. Listen to the whole album .
Did you ever did 'Estranged'? It's from the same album en my persnal favourite, with Civil war right after that.
Estranged is a masterpiece!
Smokey in the wig and sunglasses is a spitting image for Dave Stewart in the 1980's ! big love to all people :)
Dude this is one of my favorite songs of theirs the message, the guitar solo, vocals and lyrics. Also the live verion of this back in the awards show and other live in 80s version this song is amazing.❤😊 love the whole breakdown and how u guys analyze it.
Funny how this song still relates to what's happening today. 30 some years after it was written and recorded. both the use your illusions are probably my favorite albums, but Appetite for Destruction was a HUGE influence.
What magic masterpiece.....I love this Song.....
I love the Smoke Dog just be vibin! This is such a great song!
The song Chinese Democracy is 🔥
Ya'll should absolutely do Coma. Far and away the best song they've ever done
Love the Duff Mackagan's bass guitar intro at the start of Coma!!
my top 3 guns n roses songs:
1. breakdown
2. double talkin' jive
3. it's so easy
Double Talkin Jive ... damn... bad thing about that track is it's too short... it rocks🤘🏽😎
@@PML78 hahaha. yeah, but when i saw them play it live, they did an extended outro for about 5 - 7 more minutes. it was the 4th song they played, and i leaned over to my cousin and said, if they walked off stage right now, i'd still fee like i got my money's worth.
Masterpiece
You need to watch a “Live” performance of GNR doing this song ! You can feel the emotions of Axl and the band as they rock out
If ya wanna know how guns n roses felt about the press the very next song on this album is get in the ring yeah axl calls everyone out
The spoken word part about "as popular war advances" is a quote from the Pentagon Papers.
This has always been my favourite gnr song. Cheers guy
One of my Guns N’ Roses favorite songs. So many great songs. Rocket queen, Night train, One in a million, Patience: pretty much all of them. My favorite from Chinese Democracy is There was a time: the guitar solos are freaking amazing. I love your enthusiasm. I think Civil war is about all the war aside from the 1st and 2nd world war. He also mentioned Vietnam
My biggest realization was iv made mistakes and I wish I didn't make them.. but I would never want to forget the lessons
The whistling at the start - the ants go marching - is When Johnny Comes Marching Home, and is an American Civil War era song.
Speaking of TRS: Was at the Rolling Stones concert just a few days ago in Htown.. Mick Jagger said his first American tour began in that same city in 1964... Thats 60 years of touring here on this side of the pond... he had all the energy on stage too..
The quote at the beginning of the song is an audio clip from the movie Cool Hand Luke with Paul Newman..
The intro is from the movie Cool Hand Luke with Paul Newman..great movie btw
The opening speech is from the Paul newman movie cool hand Luke based on the speech the song goes a different direction
I started listening to Guns around the time I was 7-8 when Appetite for Destruction came out. This is probably their best song. If I wanted someone to know about them I'd play this. It has everything that made them cool-imo. Piano, sweet guitars, drums, singing all over the place, great message.
This is how you start an album! Hands down this is Axl's best work lyrically.
Axel was a really good whistler. Just throwing that out for the algorithm.
My favorite too
Love your reaction
My biggest self realization is that I've lived in my head for many years and I need to remind myself on the daily to do grounding and be mindful and enjoy the moments life gives me
Hollywood don't try to overthink it. According to the band it is a protest song on war , referring to all war as "civil war" cause war only "feeds the rich while it buries the poor". Duff McKagan said , " I went in a peace march , when i was a little kid with my mom. I was like 4 years old , for Martin Luther King. And thats where the line , 'Did you wear the black arm band when they shot the man who said : Peace could last forever ?". It's just true life expieriences , really.
EVERYONE wishes they could sing like him, even HIM haha
This song is fantastic. The lyrics so true....
Great song, great reaction
My too 3 are:
Mr. Brownstone
Nightrain
It’s so easy
I can’t narrow down top three G&R songs. But this Is definitely one of the best.
Loved H&R and I agree, this is my favorite song by them.
Skip to 9:45 to get to the song
One of my GnR favorites for sure! I'm so glad someone else appreciates it as much as I do. I think people were so turned off by the Chinese Democracy album that it wasn't given a chance. A classic for sure 🤌🏾
Masterpiece. 🤘🏻
That was the old man from cool hand Luke the movie talking... where Paul Newman Had to eat 50 boiled eggs in an hour eggs for a bet
I just listened GnR concert on YT and Axl Rose his voice is 🫣 not the same anymore.
My biggest self realization was things are never as they seem. When I learned that it made me a lot more aware of the world around me
Civil war my favorite gnr song too Holly wood needs to listen to both use your illusions imediately
#1 You could be mine, #2 Night Train #3 Paradise City.
Guns N' Roses got their name from the fact that it was originally the union of Hollywood Rose and LA Guns, two big bands on the scene in that day.
Also, to quote Freud, "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar." The song is literally a call for peace on Earth. If you think about when the band grew up, it was in the aftermath of WWII and the rise of American exceptionalism in the 50s, followed by the wars in Korea and Vietnam. At the time they were working on this album, the Middle East conflict was heating up again, shortly after Iran-Contra. All they'd seen, it seems, was people being killed in wars that only made the rich richer. So they pulled from Lennon and are asking to give peace a chance.
My top three would be, Mr Brownstone, Rocket Queen and Civil War.
Not sure if you've done it or not but "get in the ring" is a good one
You gotta listen to "Coma" so it can become your number 1 GnR favorite song. It is like "Chinese Democracy" but actually good.
The "Use Your Illusion" albums by Guns N' Roses, released in 1991, have distinctive album covers. "Use Your Illusion I" features a detail from Raphael's "The School of Athens" painting, which depicts various philosophers, scientists, and mathematicians from classical antiquity. The cover of "Use Your Illusion II" features a modified version of a painting by Mark Kostabi, an artist known for his surreal and thought-provoking works. The modified version for the album cover is titled "Time Fades Away." Both covers are quite intricate and visually striking, adding to the mystique of the albums.
My fav albums are Appetite for Destruction, Use your Illusion 1&2…..
GREAT reaction guys!! This is my top GnR song - has been since this came out!!
Seriously Hollywood, if you think Chinese Democracy is their best, then you really haven't listened enough to Appetite For Destruction, Lies & Use Your Illusion 1 & 2...it's not a horrible album, but it's really not GnR - it's Axl with a supporting band.
This song has everything that made them great! And yes, always loved the closing line - one of the ultimate oxymorons - there is NOTHING civil about war!
Noticed you haven't done Estranged, Night Train, Don't Cry, Mr. Brownstone, Rocket Queen yet! Get on it! Cheers!
I sure wish you guys would react too Breakdown by Guns n Roses....it is my all time favorite song by them hands down.
You all should react to Coma off the Use Your Illusions I album. It's absolutely epic and grossly underrated song. My absolute favorite GNR song.
The spoken word in the beginning of the song
Is from a movie
Called cool hand luke
Start the great paul Newman
Breakdown is my favorite GnR song followed by Civil War.
It's ok, man! I love Chinese Democracy too! It's a fantastic album and completely underrated
Get in the ring, rocket queen,mr brownstone, your crazy are all 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Cool hand Luke my all time favorite movie ❤
Crazy how apt this is for today . Guess its evergreen
American Revolution, war of 1812, some Indian mexican scuffles but yeah we see a lot of war
Top 3 GnR:
1. Don't Cry
2. Sweet Child O' Mine
3. Patience
F yeaya! Nice one Atlanta!!!! Mad love from Richmond Va ☘️💥
Appetite is the only answer for best album. Every song on that album is good.
GNR is a hard rock band.
Classic! 🤘🏻🇧🇷
Public Enemy -
"Harder Than You Think"
(lyric breakdown)
Michael Franti and Spearhead - "Good To Alive Today"
(lyric breakdown)
Smokey looks like duff mckagen the bassist with facial hair.
Huge fan from.Wisconsin! Y'all must do the song "COMA" from Use Your Illusion I - challenge me and the GNR fans that it won't take the top spot! 😁
My favorite band right here glad you shared this, check out all the albums, they have been my favorite but when use your illusion albums came out just solidified them as rock legends. Im gonna try and do the you got it my friend, thanks. Have a good one fellas. Thanks again so glad you enjoyed 🎉 Check out get in the ring on that album,
This is one of the greatest songs, sadly it will stay relevant until the end of time..
Mr. Brownstone
Night Train
Rocket Queen
We used to make fun of this song so hard but it’s always a good listen.
One of my favorite GnR songs. Have you ever checked out Get In The Ring by them? It's kind of a diss song.
Greetings from Germany
You guys should react to their first album, “Appetite for Destruction.” Now THAT’s the REAL CLASSIC Guns’n Roses with their ORIGINAL lineup!
My favourite track by GnR. The song is definitely anti war just like Sabbath's War Pigs. By the way, your country may only have had one civil war but your politicians and forces have been involved in civil wars world wide.
My self realization is I do for many people cause I have a big heart but nobody does for me. Can't let people into my world cause no trust.
I know yall going for guns n roses all i see is the fabulous freebies, Hollywood is Garvin, and Smokey is Michael ps hayse
Both albums are KILLER! But You should listen to GnR use your illusion 1 "Coma" 🤘😈
