Yeah! Red or blue this song epitomises Manchester after the arena bombing when it became a “City United”. You may need to be English to understand that 👕👕👕

    • @dave93x

To you, the people at that tribute and a lot watching it may have, but it absolutely did not galvanise the whole city or the UK. To not "look back in anger" at what happened is insane and I saw, I knew a lot of people that hated when that woman started singing it.
The bomber was "known" and was "under surveillance". Whatever all that means, whatever that means when he's allowed to waltz in there and not be stopped and checked out of fear of coming across as racist. That's what a security guard felt at the arena. He was effectively allowed to walk in there and murder families.
Looking back in anger and not forgiving is what I would say most of the UK and the city feels about it.
Tony Walsh's poem "This is the Place" is much more fitting and something I'd much rather remember.
I'm not trying to come across as combative, just getting another perspective on it out there.

Maaaaan, this song takes me back; when this album came out, I was a hardcore hip-hop head with like minimal knowledge of rock and pop. One of my roommates played three albums incessantly: Throwing Copper by Live, Seal by...uh...Seal, and What's the Story Morning Glory by Oasis. Used to drive my other roomate and me nuts at first, but eventually it got to the point where we all knew every line to every damn song...and honestly, wouldn't change a thing.

Oasis modelled themselves almost completely on the Beatles - the Gallagher brothers are huge Beatles fans. Their accent is Mancunian (from Manchester), so not identical to the Beatles, but similar. This song has become an anthem for community healing after tragedies a couple of times - and it's a perfect song for that. Wonderful to see the late great actor Patrick Macnee in the video (as the chauffeur) - I'd forgotten that! Other great bands from the UK in same era include Oasis's "arch rivals" Blur, Pulp, The Verve, House of Love, The Charlatans, and Suede.

The whole album is AMAZING! I ❤ Oasis. This brings me back to the 90s, for sure. I’m a big Beatles fan. And yes, they do make me think of like an “updated” 90s Beatles band.
Yes I have left out of anger, hurt, heart break 💔 and just to save myself from an abusive relationship. It took me a long time of praying, letting go, and letting God take over so that I can let go of the anger. At times, if I do “look back” at my relationship and life at the time I was with my ex-husband, at times, anger can kick in, but that’s when I need to let God take over my emotions and I look forward at the happiness I do have in my life. So, in a way, my ex cheating on me and abusing me, it’s a blessing in disguise for me to finally leave and move on with my life. So in a way, I don’t let myself keep that anger bc I am happier and I am just living a life with love and respect to and from my family and friends. So yeah, I don’t look back in anger, bc I am living my life with love and happiness ❤
Good reaction! More Oasis! Champagne Supernova, Live Forever, Some Might Say, and Morning Glory. They have so much talent and good songs. ❤
Oh…and I wanna say, to me, the song has always just meant about life, you don’t look back in anger at life in general. The lyrics “so I start a revolution from my bed” definitely refers to John Lennon and Yoko Ono doing just that, against the Vietnam War. And to me, throughout the song, it just means live your life, don’t look back at the past in anger bc your past is just that, your past, and maybe just live, learn and move forward and live your life to the fullest. Well-that’s how I’ve always listened to the song. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I may have it all wrong, but that’s my POV 🤩

In an Oasis documentary, Noel Gallagher (guitar/ vocals) said he was writing "Don't look back in anger" in the studio... his brother Liam Gallagher (lead vocals) was listening and asked "Who's Sally?" (Liam heard Noel singing and misinterpreted the lyrics)... And Noel was confused at first and shrugged but thought, "Why not? I'll add that line into the song..."
That was where the line, "Sally can wait..." apparently came from.
Noel claims Liam didn't like the song (Liam didn't like what became Oasis' biggest hit 'Wonderwall' either) and Noel decided to sing lead on the track... Liam was not pleased; he was the singer and singing was his gig... Now, his brother was stepping into his gig in Oasis.
It became one of Oasis' biggest hits in 1995... Noel still sings it as a solo artist.

I think you guys were right about the song meaning before you listened to the actual song. Noel has mentioned its about looking at the history of your life and realizing mistakes were made but not regretting any of them. Giving a toast for all the good and bad things that have happened to bring you to this point in your life.
The whole "Sally " thing is because he had gone to a strip club the night before gotten really drunk and woken up with the song in his head. So he thinks he was writing about a woman who hasnt had the best life but doesnt regret any of it. Then when he was singing it during soundcheck one day he had a filler for the word sally and his brother misheard it and ask if he was saying " so sally can wait". To which he relied yes and thats when it became about a woman name sally who as mentioned refuses to feel regret over the good and bad things in her life. No matter how bad things got they would never burn her heart out, she will survive, she will move forward and she will love every min of it.

The old man driving the taxi is a much loved British actor called Patrick Macnee who played John Steed, a British Secret Service agent, in the long running, and much loved, British series called The Avengers, and later, The New Avengers from the 60s and 70s. Oasis are all of the British generation, as I am, who would have idolised the Avengers and thus Patrick Macnee. One of the actresses who played alongside him was Diana Rigg who played the very sexy, often leather clad, character called Emma Peel. She was also in Game of Thrones as Olenna Tyrell. Sadly both have now passed away.

Oasis were greatly influenced by the Beatles. Even down to the John Lennon glasses. However Noel Gallagher said it was embarrassing to be compared to them but they made iconic songs of their own. "Champagne Super Nova" and "Live Forever" should be next on your list and there are plenty more to come.

The lyric " Stand up beside the fireplace - take that look from off your face" - that is a common saying from Irish mothers back in the 70 / 80's. Mainly when you had your photo taken - for the likes of a communion or confirmation. I've had that said to me many times. Oasis are pure positivity for me compared them to other contemporary artists of the time.

Guys, there was a Canadian band that had its debut album come out in 1976. It is no lie to say that many listeners and even some music critics at the time truly believed it was The Beatles reformed. Although even as a 13 year old in 1976 I was pretty sure it was not The Beatles, but you can definitely hear their influence in some of the music on the debut LP of the group Klaatu called 3:47 EST. I loved the album then and still love it. The two songs that I'd say are Beatlesque in sound on 3:47 EST are Calling Occupants and Sub Rosa Subway, the two big radio hits of the day. Other interesting tunes on that LP are the rocker True Life Hero, the Beach Boys-like California Jam and the grungy Anus of Uranus (great title). The two primary musicians/songwriters in Klaatu knew how to right quirky lyrics, tell a story and create catchy hooks/melodies. I'm really surprised people have forgotten or don't know about Klaatu. Please give them a try.

Note how Noel stole the piano intro from John Lennon's Imagine. Noel is probably the best songwriter to ever steal music all over the place but somehow make it sound new and even better at times.

There's a band called Fastball that is similar to Oasis, at least to me they are. Check out the album "all the pain money can buy".
