My understanding is that enslaved African CV's were taken by Portuguese to Curacao and other islands. Check out Frank Martinus Arion, a linguist who researched and wrote about this subject.

I am Cape Verdean. My Mom and Dad are both Cape Verdean. My Grandmother and Grandfather came to the US from the Island of Brava. My Grandma spoke broken english. My parents spoke to us in English, so I didn't learn to speak the language fluently. Thanks for the video.

I would love more! I’m Cape Verdean and half my family speaks it but they live a few hours away from me and I lost what I learned as a child and I feel very left out when I visit.

Lol my grandmother is from portugal grand father from cape verde , brava & forgo iam born n the states and only know mostly bad words , lol or i wanna eat or go to sleep , i hate the fact i cant even have conversations with my girlfriends and have to speak english ! I really appreciate your channel!! Both of my parents are from cape verde (brava e san antao) but they never taught me how to speak it growing up. I can understand it, but it's difficult for me to form sentences. I took portuguese in both high school and as a gen ed in college but I would really love to learn and embrace a lingua de cabo verde

@@CapeverdeanBarbie1990 I came from S.Antaõ at a young age but I never forgot how to speak kriol,but the other versions of Capeverdian Kriol My Mum and Dad thought me😊
And for English and Spanish I learned all by myself they we're quite easy to learn.
I learned English and Spanish in a period of 6 months.And French I always knew how to speak it 😊
