    Personally here’s my experience with my 2007 4.0 build. After you throw on the must add CAI, Exhaust, Headers (optional) combined with the tune to wrap it all together. You’ll really notice a change to the car. You really only have a handful of mods after that to help your NA 4.0 build. You’re gonna need some grippier tires to maintain traction to the ground so you’re not spinning out that right rear. I see a lot of guys who are always spinning and it’s wasted power! Thats why I run the 235/55/R17 Pirelli Cinturato Strada, really a quality beefier tire for the price point. Aftermarket coil overs Suspension is all optional, if you have the Pony package then you’re doing pretty good, it’s a bit smoother ride and of course if you’re wanting to drop your car 1” to 2” inches for looks get rid of that stock gap always a favorite. Some like to get a higher gear ratio, 3.73 or 4.10 depending. You’re gonna lose some MPG but gain a bit quicker acceleration. Next best thing is Performance wires/coil pack and some NGK iridium plugs really help take out the lag in the throttle response, adds a couple HP, and better MPG. I did notice on your Temp gauge you were running over mid (halfway). REALLY good thing you guys can do for this engine is bring that temp down is with a 180 degree thermostat. And for any new 4.0 guys with a 100k + miles 05-10, WATCH that OEM plastic thermostat housing!! Those cheap plastic replacements WILL break, do not even waste your money, just get the Simmons Auto Solid Aluminum housing and you and your wallet will thank me later. 🙏🏼🤞🏼 Hope this helps some of you new guys. 4.0 is a really solid car for any starting out in the car scene. Enjoy what you have, don’t let those guys say nonsense about “oH iTs A V6”. When they say anything, go ahead and ask them when they bought their GT why they didn’t opt for the GT500? The dumb look on their face is always priceless and you can smile and walk away. Everyone drives what they can afford, so enjoy your car and the build!!

      You've pretty much covered anything haha, the only thing I was not running was the 3.73 gears I wanted to do and the thermostat housing. And I 100% agree with you about enjoying what you have, also your response to the gt guys asking why not buy a gt is great

      I got the original 4.0 SOHC in my 01 XPLR Sport 2door up to 375,000 miles B4 I cracked cyl 4 trying to race an SVT Raptor 6.2 on the highway, that engine would prolly still be running to this day around 430k on the odometer if it wasn't for that Raptor lol. O and I put an Eaton M90 on it from a Thunderbird Supercoupe at around 225k on the XPLR, I call my 01 Explorer an SVT Explorer because I tried to build what I imagined Ford would have built as an 01 to 03 SVT Explorer Sport(I have an 01 SVT cobra so I'm an SVT kinda Ford guy lol). The way cyl 4 cracked, I've seen the exact same piston breakage on multiple 4.0 Sohcs that broke under full load and 9 times out of 10 it's always cyl 4 that cracks a piston lol. Ive had a few engines since my first motor but that's because I just get em from the junkyard for a dime a dozen and usually the timing drive is all busted and u can usually get away with just rebuilding the timing drive and she's good to go. I am gonna build a proper motor for it eventually tho, the only problem is that the couple or the few 4.0 performance internals suppliers know they can get away with ridic prices because almost nobody has perf parts for this German made Cologne 4.0 SOHC. I just wish somebody would build a performance timing drive kit thats better then the Ford kit cuz just about all the aftermarket timing drive kits for the 4.0 don't have the same quality or reliability of the Ford timing drive kit for the 4.0 SOHC, I've done extensive research on this lol and their are a few CZcams vids that illustrate pretty well just how much better the Ford timing drive kit is compared to aftermarket kits. However I do currently have an Amazon timing drive kit that I'm testing out lol and so far so good after like 10k with my blower. But I'm in the process of refreshing another Junkyard motor cuz my crank is nicked up under the rear seal and keeps letting oil out. Repair sleeve seal didn't help either lol. I accidentally nicked the crank when I was swapping out the rear seal while refreshing the motor so it's my own fault lol, I'm making another better motor because of it lol. I currently have 4 4.0s sitting in my garage right now that I'm tearing down for best candidate parts to make a good motor. But eventually I will build a motor with custom pistons and rods etc and I already have upgraded head bolts, I woulda got ARP head studs but they cost more then the engine Soo lol I just got rid of the TTY bolts and went to some Grade 12 bolts instead. I'm too invested in the V6 set up to swap in a V8 plus I want to keep my air conditioning and four-wheel drive. The dream would be to get DOHC cyl heads from the UK off a Sierra Cosworth and adapt them to the 4.0 block which requires redoing the entire timing drive so the timing Drive wouldn't be an issue anymore after that the real issue is getting the Cosworth cylinder heads they're almost impossible to find. I'd love to have a 4.6 DOHC in my XPLR like in my 🐍, but like I said I'm already to invested in the V6 setup and that's too much work and the torsion bar leaf spring suspension rides like crap anyway and I'd like to get an 02 4 door with a 4.6 SOHC v8, then I could DOHC swap no problem whilst retaining 4wd and ac, plus the suspension in the 02 4-door is independent coil springs all the way around and is much nicer than torsion bars in the front and leaf springs in the rear. The reason I want an 92 4dr and not 03-05 4dr is because in 03 they started using the electronic throttle bodies, the O2 still has the cable throttle body. Tuning an electronic throttle body used to be harder than tuning a cable throttle body, but it's not anymore these days, I just prefer my gas pedal to be connected to a throttle cable rather than some wires lol for a whole bunch of reasons. I'm planning on ditching my front torsion bars and doing a coilover swap after I install this lift kit that's been sitting in my garage for a while. Sorry I wrote so much

    I wouldn't bother with the cold air intake and shorty headers. Although they add to the sound, they don't do much for performance. I would go with a Zex nitrous oxide kit. They sell one that is dedicated to the 2005-10 Mustang V6. I would keep it conservative and limit it to a 55 shot. I know you can go more with this kit. However, I would want the engine to last and I would like the nitrous to last also. The initial boost in horsepower would make that car really responsive when you mash the pedal. The car will need a tune to accommodate the nitrous. Add good tires and install a 3.73 gear and that car would be fun. At some point if you want to improve sound, a good axle back would help. Keep the cost reasonable because you don't want to put a bunch of money into an older base model Mustang. It will get to the point where you're spending 3.7 liter V6 or older GT money. My suggestion are to set a budget and keep the money spent reasonable. I would limit my expenses to no more than $3,000 at most. The nitrous kit can go in your next car and if the tires aren't down to the cords, you can install them on your next car.
    The important thing is to have some fun driving your car. If some jerk decides to criticize you for buying a V6, take him about 20 miles away from his house and kick him out of your car because you feel he is too good to ride in your piece of junk. Obviously, I'm only kidding. On a serious note, don't worry about meeting someone else's standards. The only ones I owe anything to are God, the people I love, and me. The older I get the less I care about what others think. You'll often find that people that tend to be critical often have more problems than you do.

    I have an 07' V6 I enjoy it and love it regardless of it being a V6. These motors are definitely not very responsive to power adders. On the dyno mine only made 202whp estimated 246 crank. I have LT headers with custom mid and exit pipes, 70mm throttle body, CAI, plugs and wires with coil pack. That's it for power adders. I also have a built rear end with 3:73's and limited slip, 1 piece drive shaft, Koni suspension and 2" lowering springs. I do have a garage built turbo kit waiting to go in and when I say garage built it was put together with eBay parts and custom made manifolds. I'm just waiting to get some forged pistons from Supersix because the stock pistons are known to be weak and crack under boost upside is these motors come with forged rods from the factory.

    Good advice for the most part , with a couple exceptions. Finding a CAI that doesn't actually require a tune in order to keep your LTFT and STFT under 20% deviance is harder to find that a Unicorn.
    So what you get is a CEL got Banks running lean, which can eventually result in your valve train melting from the heat.
    I agree about the Tune.
    Besides the length of the headers, one is used for Turbo, the other is the basic set up for a supercharger.

    • @matttorres5968
      @matttorres5968 Před 3 lety

      Ofcourse but you want mods so Do
      Coil pack
      Fuel injectors
      Cold air intake stay away from spectre intakes
      For real more affective mods get
      Catless Exuast with an Xpype and tune for the most power
      Then do long tube headers on 93 octane
      Next do a bigger throttle body this will really wake up on engine
      If you want to really get crazy get cams / ported heads, and a bigger intake manifold this will be the most expensive but their the best ones for really boosting power gains especially addings turbos or goin procharge. This is advice from a v8 owner i did this mods first all in order i seen good ass results

    I know this is about mods, but I noticed you reply to most of your comments so I thought I would ask, would you say a 2005 v6 would be a good car? I’m about 7 months from being able to get my license, and I was trying to find a car that looked good, and was just generally good for around 5k used, I have seen a lot of these on the used market, so I was wondering whether you would peg that as a good option? Or whether you would recommend something different, thank you

    • @erikjenks6426
      @erikjenks6426  Před 3 lety +4

      All things considered, its a pretty good car. All around good but not excellent at anything, but it is reliable. The gas mileage is pretty average, but it has pretty ok power and is very torquey. If you wanted to get something with a little more power and faster, definitely recommend the 2011-2014 v6's, but i honestly prefer the body style for the 2005-2009, plus the 2011-2014s will be a little more expensive. It also sounds very good for a v6, and there is a ton of aftermarket support for bolt on's if you so choose to upgrade the car in the future. Working on it is also pretty easy theres a ton of room in the engine bay and relatively easy to understand what is going on. Its a very good bang for your buck car and since it was my first car I'm a little biased but i think you should go for it cause its a good first step into the car world

    • @erikjenks6426
      @erikjenks6426  Před 3 lety

      Of course I'm glad I can help! So I don't want to sell you that it will be perfect, cause there will be 4.0s with problems, and for the most part they should be fine (other the rare engine chain guide problem, if you can find a car that has had this problem fixed and replaced with a new timing chain guide, that would be ideal), I actually purchased mine at 130k miles. Ideally, you would be able to find one with a maintenance history and a well taken care of, cause if that's the case, it will be reliable past 150k miles. And on top of that, it doesn't make enough power that the engine would blow any pistons or any things like that and has a very hardy bottom end. It just comes down to maintenance history and if the previous owner took care of it
