Yes, NA builds are expensive. No, it’s (generally) not worth it, but something something eye of the beholder…
Rough breakdown of costs:
- *Cams* $1,000 (127600 + phaser limiters)
- *Stroker Kit* $4,000 (4.9L, but only ~9.6 compression ratio [for eventual boost])
- *Exhaust* $1,500 (Kooks LT, catted x-pipe)
- *Intake* $2,000 (CAI, TB, Manifold)
- *Trans* $6,500 (includes clutch, driveshaft, and axle gears)
If you have any questions for me, you can reach me thru my Tazet profile:

And special thank you to those who watch the video all the way through 🙏
its still cheaper than a coyote swap
I just had a 302 3-valve installed in my 2005 Mustang just because I love the 3-valve nothing to do with being faster than a Coyote but fast enough. @@LordSamuelJ
"Worth It" comes down to what you actually want to accomplish. If the goal is a dyno number or a track time sure boost it to the sky but if you just want smiles per gallon I think nothing else feels as good as a smooth running NA engine
@LordSamuelJ is not anymore. You can absolutely junkyard it for less. Will it have tons of loose ends, yes.
nice work man, i just did about $15k in mods to my 2018 camaro and fully built the motor NA
The chop is immaculate!
Ngl for daily use I would prefer little more power over stock at down low. 30hp over stock at down is a definitely a tradeoff

THANKS for not making a 25min video for a simple concept, straight to the point, no extra, very cool video
Yep, 25 mins with 35 midroll ads, that no one
watches. This was an excellent video.
Dude has more quality content in a 6 minute and 25 second video than almost every other car-focused YT channel I've seen. I'm not even into Mustangs, but I love this kinda stuff. will be watching more of your videos for sure!
Right, where everything else now days is BS/jokes/dumb/clickbait... these are full of info and great quality builds that are still entertaining with excellent production value. We need more creators like this.
Brace yourself and go check out M539 Restorations
@@RunGMCSycloneand its all about they cars not some vlog bullshit about his day and unrelated stuff
I definitely love this channel. Please, never stop to making content like that.
Ai minha voida!, nn sabia q vc gostava de carro
Ihhh o rei do kuduairo curte uns carro
I’m not even a mustang guy but i like these videos just bc of how educational and how well edited they are. Keep up the great work
I'm definitely more a Miata and Cayman guy, but if you are a bigger guy on a budget that needs a real car for going to work in, and can also be kind of sporty on the weekend, they are a solid value proposition in the screwed up markets we are living in. His no nonsense content is my preferred delivery. He is like the anti-moron style of Donut media.
Couldn’t have said it better myself
Came here to say the same.
Exaclty and it's not 25 minutes long
Yes, very well put together video.
Can we take a second to appreciate Zach's insanely clean and beautiful stock S197? Wow is that a nice looking car.
For my taste it is the better looking car,
love the stock lights front and back, though
the rims aren't as nice as the new ones on
'four eyes' car.
That has got the be the cleanest and best sounding S197 that I've ever seen. Very crispy!
Love the comparison with a stock 3V stang. Huge difference. Must be that ceramic coating 😊
gotta minimize that drag coefficient!
Better aero lol
For all the newbs for this channel, this guy has put 10s of thousands of dollars into his 2007. Love seeing how far an S197 can go. Keep it up!!!
The 2007 or 2008 S197s hold a special place in my heart; I think those are some of the best Mustangs they have made, as in looks and general feel. The Terminator Cobras are amazing, and the GT500s will always be my dream car, but the S197s have a solid "Mustang" feel to them.
I've never driven a vehicle that was less exciting to drive than one of those. Its nice to see someone doing something decent with it that isn't throwing in an LS with turbos or a coyote engine.
@@jeepmanxj An LS would've been far cheaper in the long run.
@@Luke357 so
@@jeepmanxj So what? Beefing up this motor is very expensive and you will never get the power you can get from an LS. There are so many more cheap parts and easy upgrades it's not even funny.
Several years from now after the conclusion of this series this is going to be one of the best on CZcams IMO. Some young men will find this and be able to enjoy it start to finish in one sitting, I’m happy for them. Thanks 👊🏻
Another great video! Clear information displayed in a timely matter. Looking forward to that Viper getting kitted out man!
Always explaining things the right way and not being boring 👏
I was wanting to see what a high comp NA build could do to begin with, glad you've also decided to find that out before going boost!
Thanks for the video. Would be nice to see how these older cars keep up with newer stock cars and their mods. Will be a nice demonstration of power to money ratios.
Love the video! The graphic overlays and pace is awesome.
Absolutley love this channel. The idea of pushing platforms to their limits and testing them is always fun to watch!
That Mustang sounds absolutely godly. Love what you've done with it! Honestly though I wouldn't go further. It just seems so perfect the way it is. It's got the right power, and amazing sound and response without being too crazy. Almost seems a shame to mess with what looks like perfection.
The whole idea was it was gonna be boosted, he needed to do all this so the engine can handle the boost he’s gonna make
@@extsy2794not with high compression it won't handle nothing past 6 psi if even that
Dispite ford Modular’s not making the most power they are godly sounding V8s. Even stock with a catback.
I love when I see one of your videos drop on my home page. Always look forward to watching them.
Need to start the upgrade process on my 10gt
Will be consulting your build list so thank you for all of your work and videos. Keep it up!
The build has come so far and there is still so much room for improvement. Cant wait to see
Nice. I dig the way your videos get right to the point. No fillers.
Great video as always, looking forward to seeing the engine build!
The quality of editing, the attention to detail, and straight to point yet informative points is refreshing. I don’t even own that type of mustang but i’m a car guy above all. I always loved this body type and i always root for the underdog. I own a 69 mustang with a stock (for now) 302w. I hope to be able to keep up with my 07 srt8 6.1 (a bit modified nothing crazy but it’s quick). Love that you also have a Mopar to have both cars compete. I had to share how impressed i am and i immediately subscribed, hello everyone reading this.
Always a pleasure watching you're videos, you're channel growth is well earned :)
Love your no nonsense videos. Great stuff
I’ve been doing this exact same build almost for the past 2 years! So nice seeing other people appreciating this car! Mine is a2010 grabber blue, but the main differences are that I swapped the front end with a 2014, rebuilt the 5speed to be more appropriate, and did a mcloud clutch. I have mine setup for drift instead of drag, but idk how I didn’t find this sooner! Can’t wait to see it as it goes!
UK viewer here. Not usually a US car follower but they way you approach issues and show your findings makes for a really good watch
I am so excited for that viper. The videos are always great and you explain things very clearly. Thank you.
Damn it sounds and looks so good with much better performance, having a vision and seeing it through well done
I love how non clickbait, fact based and how competition was handled in such a friendly manner. dont see much of that on YT these days
I had a 2007 Mustang GT many years ago in college and that was my favorite car. Amazing video. The quality of your editing is excellent!
Great video. You could change your axle ratio so it would get in the power band faster.
Back in the day I loved reading mustang magazines about builds like this. The S197s should be a good budget build now a days.
These are some of the best budget cars to get into racing with on track or drag racing. Cheap reliable and fast but after a bit of upgrades to the tires and suspension these things can be very quick. I have an 07 for the track and its stock motor but with the heavy aero and suspension I keep up with porches vettes and lots of BMWs They beat me in the straights but I eat them up in the turns which is odd to say for a mustang lol
@johncorbin4125 Whats funny is gen if Mustang is one of those cars that you could have fun out of the box, even if you don't upgrade it.
@@recon1673 oh for sure! pick up a decent GT for 5k-8k and will be faster than most other cars in the price as well.
I just freaking love it. The other content is superb too but i am here for that 3V Love 🥰

Your videos are really well presented and put together. Great effort.
I applaud you for building it NA. Can’t wait for the new high comp engine vids.
This is good stuff. I have a 2007 911 Carrera 4 and this was pretty cool to see. It actually feels faster than my 2012 Mustang GT, gotta be the lower weight and gearing playing tricks. Handles so much better as well. The Mustang might as well be a 90s Cadillac. I also have a 2000 Viper GTS ACR, so your channel is right up my alley.
As always, love your content and concise format.
thanks man
Thanks for the video, waiting further content!
Just purchased my own 08' GT because of your series, exact same color as your cousins in vista blue. You have definitely set a good path on where to go, and how to make good power out of these things.
How much did you get it for?
Seriously one of if not the best channels on youtube. Great video, great graphics, clearly presented, and just the right amount of info. Keep crushing it.
I agree. I’ve watched every single video start to finish straight through the first time. I’ve learned so much from him.

Dude, this is epic i love the series youre doing
Love your content, always looking forward to a new upload. 3V Life!
Thats a pretty sweet build. Theres something special about a well setup N/A engine, it'll be cool to see what it runs like with high compression pistons.
He’s not going that route bc he’s going for boost
@@akush420695:47, he mentioned here that he is going to go for a high compression motor first, then he will boost it, watch the video properly before you comment
learn cars better before u comment. high compression doesnt boost very well. high compression wont give u much to boost. didnt he also say his compression is around 9? thats low... not high...@@bigmansir3745
Always enjoy your videos. I like the cars and comparisons. You keep it condensed - well done!
Thank you Randy 🙏
The best thing I ever did with my manual 07 GT was cams, long tubes and 4.30 gears. Finally gave it the acceleration (and sound) that i was happy with.
This is where it’s at. I’m more interested in NA tunes than boosted. Both are cool, but there’s just something about getting the best performance without boosting that just speaks to me.
$800 nitrous system is the cheapest way to go
This could damage the engine
And damage even more if it's completely stock
Cheapest way to kill the beautiful GT
Agreed with the above replies... $800 is the cheapest for the first week or two of being on, but can your stock mechanical parts handle that power? Pressure? Heat? Etc.
This video was revitalizing to my soul, especially the sound of that cam!
i adore the effort and education purposes of this project, keep it comin'!
I can't imagine how much forced induction is gonna improve this build considering you're doing your best to max out its NA performance first. It's gonna be a beast
Doubt he's gonna go FI if he already bought NA cams
@@scottlefaux he already mentioned in the video that he is going to do it.
and he "prepared" by only going for ~9.6 compression ratio even though he is NA right now
@@InFlamesOfSorrowyeah that alone tells you he had intentions of boost later. That compression has to be low to run boost. Only reason top fuelers get by because they run nitro methane.
Did you also know a 10% mix of nitropropane is a nice power adder.
@@oldskolacura9798 I prefer medical nitrous oxide or the food grade stuff at the very least
It's crazy that your NA 4.6 (4.9) has almost the same amount of power as my supercharged one can't wait for you to add boost you are the bright star of the 3v community love from Germany ! Keep up the great work
The Modular engines 2v, 3v, n 4v where banned from Engine Master's competition bcuz these lil engines make crazy power for their lil 281ci displacement..lol Mine is at 309rwhp 321rwtrq @5,447rpm.. It's a 09 P71..lol
Well this compression ratio wouldn't be the best for boost haha

i would have loved to see you race a stock gt350 or stock hell cat especially since u beat the 10 speed even if u didn't win would have been nice to see a fully na 4.6 vs these 2 cars as a lot of 10 speeds claim to beat hellcats on just e-85 and headers. And the GT350 is like the king of the NA world for mustangs would have also been nice to see ur NA setups vs Fords for that year

I bet the Porsche would be faster around a track as is.

Man your mustang sounds so good, especially that chop chop 🤩 As always great video, straight to the point, no bullshit!
Love all your content man! Super excited for the viper videos!
Squeezing 130hp over and still N/A is impressive 😮
No it’s not when you spent thousands of dollars on it
@luisuribe5432 it's low compression dude.. you spend "thousands of dollars" more than 3vs cost to get into these fancy coyotes so you're spending the money either way. This thing is ready to make 1000+ wheel with boost without even trying or being stressed. That's what you're paying for. Some of yall aren't very intelligent. Yea let's brag how much better the new coyotes are but just ignore that you gotta spend 30-50k just to own one. Youu're spending money either way. This is way more unique than the same ol 5.0 build everyone does.
@@luisuribe5432130 hp above stock while still using a low ass compression ratio is pretty impressive that is a huge gain on a car that was below 300 rwhp factory.
@@midnight347Hi I have a question what is low compression and why is it more impressive that it has low compression?
@@thetheorist99compression directly affects how much hp an engine can make. I believe he is at 9.5 cr which is .3 less than stock but he has more displacement sonce it is bored and stroked. They make pistons that go upwards of 12 and in an NA build could make almost 100 more hp. But since he plans to go FI at some point you need less compression so he doesn't need to run race Gas or e85
Nice build my man. Who doesn’t love a good N/A build? They always sound fantastic, and that’s half the fun 😁
