Man there’s just something about the sound of the 4.0 definitely doesn’t sound like your typical V6
Sounds decent
Pushrod v6
@@louiscle1622 This is not a Pushrod V6. Those ended in 2002, This is the OHC 4.0l V6.
It's a 60° v6 as opposed to a lot of American v6 engines which are 90° v6's. American v6's are usually 90° because they're based off of a v8, but in Europe they're much more likely to make a v6 for a v6's sake and this motor did start in the European market.
@@louiscle1622 I can safely say after rebuilding 4 of these engines and working on mine for the last 10years its definitely not a push rod engine its got rollers no rods on the cams
Damn, wish I had a shop near me who could play with my 4.0, I’d love to have her make some healthy power

Why didn't you guys drive the car? Makes no sense to show dyno queen and not one second of drive time¿
@@frankkirkman5994they clearly know what theyre doing in terms of engineering but they love to shit talk the 4.0’s like crazy, despite 4.0’s being about as fast as BRZ’s and Civic Si’s and having similar potential. Theyre not bad, better options but not bad and pretty dirt cheap honestly now days. Good entry level sports cars. Not sure why they get so much hate for their price other than that the GT’s and 3.7’s are clearly better, but also clearly cost most. You can get a decent 4.0 for $4000-6000. Goodluck finding a half decent 4.6 or 3.7 for under $10k. For anybody well into their career year sure get the 4.6, 3.7, or 5.0 if you can afford it. But if you actually want a traditional mustang looking body style and a good entry level sports car for cheap that you can easily get into the upper to mid 14 seconds range with a tune, CAI, gears then yeah, the 4.0 is a great car for that. Basically someone between high school to college range or just struggling a bit financially

rebuilding my 4.0 in my Sport Trac now. Actually a great engine if it weren't for the damn timing chain guide problem. Couple mods I've seen to direct some extra oil to the front, as well as an oil accumulator for pre-start oil. Doing them both, plus an m90 supercharger with 5.5lbs.
Cool
The weekest part of these motors is the timing chains. it actually has a pretty stout bottom end. I have an 05 Explorer however you cannot access the injectors with the intake manifold that is has. I'm in the process of doing a 6266 it'll be install around where the muffler is right before the axle. You have one of these motors and it's completely stock no Port work done to the heads and stock cams might want a 52 mill turbskie. I know the 4.0 sohc & 5r55 trans inside& out. You will also have to update the trans if you wanted the last@ 400plus
yup
I have an 05 with a 4.0l V6 and I plan on doing a 5 Speed swap very soon along side short tubes and a Dry-Cold Air Intake and a tune. I know it's gonna be work and money and time, but i want a 5 Speed and not have to resort to buying another vehicle instead when I only had mine for 4 months now.
Can you give a mod list of your 4.0 stang? I want to build a 4.0 and I aim for 400 whp. Can a stock motor safely handle that for a daily driver application? LAstly are there forged internals anywhere for the 4.0?

May I ask, was there any parts of the engine to be rebuilt to uphold the power or are components like the shaft, cylinders, valves all stock ?

So you was talking about how the turbo could be improved. What do you recommend , because I want to do the same thing to mines but I need like advice before committing
Sell the 4.0 v6 and get a 3.7
I build little 2-stroke engines for a living, and know how a blower works, but I found it interesting on my roots blower when it was tuned by a shop (the first time tuned), that thing would move/boost as soon as you got off idle. I had a different tune put in that makes me press the pedal more to get the boost, and runs pretty much like stock under that. The tune has to do with all the electronic engine management (a weak spot of mine), including opening the gate.
Do you have that kind of tune-ability range with a centrifugal super charger?
Yes we have lots of tuning ability with centrifugal superchargers like procharger
What kind of tuning software are you using? I’ve got a 4.0 turbo 62/66 T4 on a powerhouse turbo kit with a SSM 4.0 short block so pistons, rods, also had stage 2 heads set up from them as well and ARP all the way through. Currently sitting on a 8psi spring and I make 350hp and 400tq on the current tune. Which I’m not very happy with but no one in my area is very good at tuning the 4.0 it seems like.
We use SCT, HP Tuners, Cobb, UP Rev, stand alones, etc. On this car we are using SCT. We saw 10 lbs on the final pull to get the 430/513
Were did you get your upgraded heads at
Just subbed cool car😎😎
Thanks for the sub
Who's timing chain set up are they using? Tensioners and guides break under stock power, what company's would you use to support 400+? Cloyes?
We like cloyes
I have a 2018 camaro i4 and was wondering if I can get it tuned by you guys, I’ve been looking everywhere for a tuner. Also correct me if I’m wrong but are you guys located in Florida ?
Yes we are in Arcadia Fl and would be happy to tune you.
Auto Mafia Racing as soon as I get my zzp down pipe and zzp intercooler Ill go get my car tuned by you guys. So far my mod list is : injen evo cold air intake, zzp throttle body and catback straight pipe exhaust. Where can I email you guys to let you know when my car is ready for the tune
whats all done to it? curious whats the best stuff to do to increase power on a 4.0
Boost is the best power. This has a ghetto turbocharger setup.
4.0s are the same as every car they need more air more fuel and more exhaust to make power.
I have a question for you about my car and driving. I have the 2006 V-6 Mustang with 110,000 miles on the engine, and a X-Charger roots Magnuson M90 that I have about 55,000 miles on. It is my old man muscle car (60), because I did not have one in the 70's, (dirt bikes instead. still do those too). I might take it to a drag to see what it can do once, but not my main car and I don't beat on it much. I don't know the maintenance of the blower or how long they last. I think the engine will be OK for a long time though, at least another 100,000 miles. I am making about 340hp at the crank, so you know the stress.
How much mileage can I expect from that Magnuson M90 blower?
If you have any idea, or who to ask, thank you very much.
Doug in Michigan
I'd ask Magnuson but the oil Def needs changed every 3 to 5 k miles
Doubt there would be much interest but I would like to see a 3.8 turbo kit.
Thats the problem. No one wants to pay $3500-$6,000 for a turbo kit for car thats worth $1500
Auto Mafia Racing I would be interested. To be fair the 3.8 never got the respect or a chance to really form a following like the 4.0 or the 3.7
Even with that tiny snail? That’s making me rethink what turbo I can use in my car.

I have a 2010 V6 Mustang, I’m not sure if you want your 4.0 to sound very loud and raspy or a more aggressive deeper sound but, I’m going to closest of a 70s muscle car sound.
I’m going with BBK ceramic coated long tube headers, pace setters high flow cat H pipe, and a dual borla s type stinger cat back, you’d have to change the rear valance or depends for dual.

Out of pure curiosity, what is it about the 4.0 you guys dont like working with?
they are simply not a good motor for performance. the 3.7 holds more boost and makes way more power even stock. also the 3.7 comes with the same transmission and rear end as the 5.0, the 4.0 comes with a weaker trans and rear end. overall its just not worth messing with

At what power level do the blocks split on these? I wish companies would put as much time into the V6 engine development as they do the V8 so that the main components (block, heads, crank, etc.) are just as strong as the V8 engines or at the very least, not prone to cracking in half at lower power numbers.
Pretty much at this power level. The rods are ticking time bombs at over 500 ft lbs or 400+ hp and we are over on both.
