  • Hi Everyone, welcome to the Ranger Shop!
    I created this channel to focus on everything to do with Ford Rangers. I love these little trucks, they are cheap easy to modify and great off road.
    Please follow along if you have a Ranger and want to learn about modifying and repairing it.
    This is Part 1/3 of my Supercharger install. I am using the Moddbox kit linked below. It’s been a great kit, well designed and beautifully made. In this video I cover rebuilding the charger, fuel pump and replacing the plugs.
    Thanks for watching, we will see you in the next video.

    I just stumbled across this little gem of a video and am VERY glad I did!
    I'll echo what others have said: great production skills! Clear, well-lit shots combined with excellent, well thought-out descriptions makes for a VERY enjoyable viewing experience! (I also learned about fuel injection hose clamps.) I've got a 2004 Explorer with the 4.0 and now want to throw a supercharger in it!

      Glad you found it! Yeah unfortunately I’m not sure why more aren’t working on these. They are great little trucks that are still reasonable to buy!

    Definitely a project I’m going to do with my 4.0 ranger once I pull the motor to rebuild it. Always wanted to either turbo it or give it a supercharger.

    I just came across this video, and subscribed. I’ll investigate your channel further.
    Most informative “how to” video I’ve ever watched. Your camera work is incredible. I was not distracted by your audio descriptions because they were direct & to the point. (If you hang up wrenching, I’m sure you could teach some of the young fellas how to create streamlined videos.)
    My dad gave me his 2004 Ranger 4.0 XLT 4x4. I would love to do this it. It has 135,000 kilometres.
    Take care & Thank You

      It’s recommended to use the the 1994/95 Eaton FORD M90 (rectangular-style) and the 1989-1993 FORD Eaton M90 (oval-style). Often found it the Thunderbird supercoups.

  • @jamesclayton9163
    @jamesclayton9163 Před rokem

    I don't think u should have put that oem fuel pre-filter on because with the high flow pump it will suck up faster and may collapse the filter. The filter that came with the kit has a plastic inners to keep the screen open and won't collapse.

    • @RangerShop1
      @RangerShop1  Před rokem

      Totally picking up what your putting down…. the decision was not made lightly. The problem was no matter what that filter was not going to fit on there…. Unless I cut the complete bottom out of the plastic holder then I’d be worried about the pump falling out. What made me feel better about using the oem was it had plastic ribs to hold it from collapsing and was over double he surface area. I think if you were building a high boost 4.0 with upgraded high flow injectors then I’d be looking at getting a different pump set up. But I’m keeping my boost low and sticking with stock injectors. I’ll keep my eye on my injectors pulse width once I start towing I’ll keep you posted… appreciate the feedback keep it coming 👍

    Well spoken video, have been watching all your videos on your beautiful baby. I have a question for you, with your knowledge and as a ford mechanic, would you know if they make a supercharger for the 3.0 v6 ranger motor. That's what I have in my 2002' Ford Ranger. Thank you for showing & sharing your experience and thoughts

    • @RangerShop1
      @RangerShop1  Před rokem +1

    Where did you get the rebuild kit for the blower? I couldn't find any that would work for the super coupe or cougar units. Lots for the m90s used on range rovers, jags, and gms.

    How many psi and how much horsepower should you gain? Any loss to torque?

    • @RangerShop1
      @RangerShop1  Před rokem +3

      I’m running low boost 4.5-5psi. Should be good for about 50hp and 50ftlbs torque, these superchargers are for torque that’s why I used it… if you look at this dyno run notice how quickly the power comes on… it’s instant no lag that’s the main reason I went with it.
      This is on a stock truck- modd.me/faqs/ scroll down a bit. 185ftlbs factory went to 236ftlbs

    not sure if your on any ranger groups on FB or the ranger station- I'd love to talk to you more in depth about installing a Supercharger- what would I be looking for for a 2002 3.0L Ranger?

    • @RangerShop1
      @RangerShop1  Před rokem +1

      Unfortunately, I don’t think you can get the kit for the 3.0 it’s only for the 4.0 SOHC. I’ve seen a bunch turbocharging their 3.0 rangers seems to be really slick.
      Instagram @ waysoutback is probably the best way to talk, if you still want.

    • @RangerShop1
      @RangerShop1  Před 10 měsíci

      I’m not 100% sure I think as long as it’s a 4.0 SOHC then you’re good, but I’d reach out to the manufacturer he’s got lots of great info.

  • @StewCrew72
    @StewCrew72 Před 6 měsíci

    If you have a 4.0 is it required that you have to rebuild the supercharger. Also I have a question about the m90s, I have one off of a gm motor would it still fit?

    • @RangerShop1
      @RangerShop1  Před 6 měsíci

      I would highly recommend rebuilding it but you could probably get away with just replacing the rubber coupler adding new oil and sending it.
      I’d skip the GM one since it was mounted on a transverse motor they made it too long. The SC has a short nose and body perfect for our rangers. There is a guy on CZcams that used a GM one on a 4.6 CrownVic take a look at his videos…. he had to cut off the rear and JB weld the housing back on….. seems like too much work. There are lots of Super Coupe SC around just keep your eyes open. I just picked one up yesterday for 250$, but I had to drive bit. In my opinion it’s a lot of work why add to it.

    Is it possible to install supercharger without changing OEM fuel pump?

    • @RangerShop1
      @RangerShop1  Před rokem +1

      I’d probably reach out to Moddbox, but personally I think if you went with low boost around 4psi with no tune you would be fine. If you went with larger injectors you would definitely have to upgrade.

    • @Samophlan
      @Samophlan Před rokem +1

      Yes you can. It's even stated on the moddbox site that the pump isn't needed. I have the 47lb injectors installed to. Though I ended up installing the pump that came with mine anyways. It gave me nothing but problems and eventually burned out within three months, leaving me stranded in the middle of the desert in the middle of July in 110F, 50 miles from the closest town.
      Eventually got it towed to a Ford Dealership and had them replace the fuel pump with a stock OEM one. Been over a year now with no problems running the 3.15" pulley, which according to my boost gauge produces 3.8lbs of boost at WOT. Fuel pressure is a constant 65psi never dropping below 62psi.
