In this video I show you how to fix the problem where you can't install PS4 update. Whether you have a working PS4, but can't install PS4 update or if you're stuck in a cannot start the ps4 safe mode loop this fix should help you out. Do you have to keep the USB connected to the ps4? I installed yesterday and it deleted all my games and info so I redownload everything and this morning I turned my ps4 back on and it was back into safe mode asking update the software again

Same it does the update and everything then brings me back to square one again , I’m thinking the only option is to initialize the ps4 and you’ll have to redownload all ur games n lose ur clips or do this, gonna try this method and hope it works

It’s now on 8.03 and when I go on the PS4 website it won’t download, I’ve tried 2 laptops and on 1 phone and the update won’t install and every device I used to do this has enough space to download so I don’t see why it won’t work any help?

I'm 2 weeks late but I want to say thanks for showing us how to disable automatic downloads for system software updates. I never knew there was an option to that. It's like you said, some updates don't require a restart to install, and if auto-update is enabled, there's always a chance that you'll get the "cannot start ps4" error when you wake it up outta rest mode. Thankfully that's never happened to me, but that doesn't mean it never will, but at least I can leave it in rest mode without any worries from now on

So my on button doesn't work I've got an older ps4 not the pro unfortunately and the power button hasn't worked for while
My PS4's also stuck on safe mode loop. I tried to update it (already 4 times) using wifi and an ethernet cable in the safe mode, also tried to rebuild database a couple of times, and also the restore default settings option. I've tried all of these but unfortunately, my PS4's still in the loop. My last option is the initialize option which will delete my data and reset the whole PS4 but the thing is, the gmail I use in my PSN account is already deactivated and in case I choose initialize I won't be able to recover my data. It's so sad because I have 4 years of game data stored in that account and also purchased games and now I'm left with the last option (initialize) in the safe mode.
So for you guys concerned with the safe mode loop, I strongly believe the initialize option will get you out of the loop but you'll have to make sure you can still access and log in to your PSN account. As for my case, I'll try to contact playstation regarding the migration of my PSN account to my working gmail.
youknow, i have tried to initialize it multiple times with several different usb drives, and external HDD's. done it through my pc and my phone and it still tells me that the ps4 can't locate the update file.
Then we're probably screwed for now then. I'll try to wait for another update and I won't use the PS4 for now. Sony's updates suck.

initializing sadly does NOT get you out of the loop. i have initialized 8 times within this WEEK all initializing because it is my last resort.

I had this problem and tried everything but today I had to hit option 6 and wipe my PS4 Pro. Thankfully everything was saved in the cloud and I was able to download all of my Cold War progress yeaaa!! ;)

Just wanted to say very helpful i did end up doing it slightly different once update was on usb drive and connected to ps4 i turned ps4 on normally and it automatically updated and restarted on its own with out the safe mode steps just incase u dont have proper cables for controller or other issues slowing u down thank you for this video really helped 😁

So by clicking on the link for the 8 update you said they will do the latest update to install does that mean it goes for the 9.00 update cause I want to download that into it

Hey after I did my ps4 did took the update from the USB. I was able to log into my PlayStation account and downloaded the game, but I try to turn it on the ps4 the next day and it said the same think to download software file

My ps4 has been acting very slow lately. I restarted it and it put me on that “cannot start ps4” so I reinstalled the system software but it stops me from updating the ps4. I get a message that says cannot access system storage(CE-30781-9) any help with this issue, I don’t want to buy a hard drive if that’s not the issue for it.
