    Regarding the torque app? Does that talk to a devise that plugs into the obd? How does it work and where did you get it. Sounds like something we all should have to monitor vital parameters. I’m trying to get an XD but the prices are too high right now. When they come down, I’ll jump on one like yours. Thanks for the video and the details. I have a 7000lbs 29 foot RV and this truck will be perfect for it.

      That's a great question. You will need an OBDII Wifi Adapter to send info to the head unit. I have attached a link to the one I'm using in the video description. It's a bit bulky, but it works. I've tried smaller versions but had connectivity issues. Sounds like a perfect truck for your needs! Hopefully prices will get back to a realistic level soon! Thanks for the comment and watching our channel.

    I tow a 38 foot travel trailer highway speeds. Through most of midwest I don’t need two mode, avg 8-9.8 MPG towing. If I’m going through Appalachia I’ll engage Tow mode, otherwise not needed. Fuel quality really matters, found best mpg from shell summer gas for towing. As far as performance, I passed semi up the mountains with 7% grade with ease. Holds speed really well down grade. Very stable with load leveler.

    Curious how many miles you got to a tank of gas. I’ve heard of people complaining about the small fuel tank.

      Yes. See my last comment. The tank size was a disappointment that’s for sure.

      @Mike2500able Před rokem

      I don’t see why people are so worried about the fuel tanks, they have the same size tanks as other crew cab short bed trucks…

    • @BuildYourOwnAdventure
      @BuildYourOwnAdventure  Před rokem +2

      For me, it was towing range. It’s a hassle pulling into a gas station to fill up with a camper in tow. If it was a diesel it probably wouldn’t have been as big of a deal since you can use the commercial lanes.

  • @salvatorepuma
    @salvatorepuma Před 8 měsíci

    First of all its a pick up truck. The tank size is relative to the purpose of the vehicle. Next, there is a method to the madness of underrating the weight ratings, which will probably be sabotaged by ratting out one of the two only predominantly American made Pickups( Yea, keep thinking the big three are made with American labor). As a current owner of two Titans (2011 SV AND 2017XD) , I beat my first Titan (a 2004) by overloading it and doing so for over 300 K before trading it in for my 2011. First generation was bulletproof, and my 2017XD seems to be on its way to be just as reliable.

    I own a 2017 titan SL with tow package . Ya think it would be okay to town a 7000lbs 34ft travel trailer 1200 miles ? I'm a little nervous cause I'm new to towing. I have a EQ hitch with sway control and all that I just don't want to over due the towing like I said I'm new. It's flat road basicly from Colorado i-70 to Saint Louis ans i-55 down to Memphis. So flat interstate for the most part!

    • @BuildYourOwnAdventure
      @BuildYourOwnAdventure  Před 2 lety +4

      That's a hard question to answer, but I'll give you my thoughts. The powertrain has no shortage of power and it will handle the load just fine. The areas that are most important, however, are the payload and towing capacity. If your towing capacity is less than the gross vehicle weight rating of the travel trailer, then I wouldn't try it. It's normal to max out payload capacity on a truck well before you reach the towing capacity so be sure to pay close attention to what your payload is rated for and what the tongue weight of the trailer is. You don't want to go over your payload. If your truck fits all of these parameters, then you should be sure your weight distributing hitch is adjusted properly and your trailer brakes are functioning properly. If all of those things are good, you should go down to the largest parking lot you can find and practice turning and backing your trailer. Make wide turns and take your time to check all areas around you. My advice for towing on any interstate is to stay in the right lane and drive a safe speed. Don't rush or try to keep up with traffic!! Always keep your distance from traffic ahead of you so you have enough room to stop. Take frequent breaks and don't travel to far in one day. We like to stick to 5 hours per trip. Good luck and stay safe.

    Did you ever manually select a lower gear when cruising down the hwy or did it hold 7th?

    • @BuildYourOwnAdventure
      @BuildYourOwnAdventure  Před rokem +2

      I did manually shift when I first got the truck. I would tow in 5th and downshift to 4th just before any steep grades. After towing a while, I would turn on tow/haul and let it tow in 6th. I did still downshift manually before going up a grade. The MPGs did go up a little more when using 6th.

    Not knowing what the weight of your trailer is to ensure you don't overload the brakes and transmission is not wise. Especially with a family

      @BuildYourOwnAdventure  Před 3 lety +2

      You are correct. I have an idea of the weight but never weighed it. With our new tow vehicle, I know we’re not even close to the maximum capacity. Besides the power of our F350, the Titan XD felt very similar when braking and towing. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @BuildYourOwnAdventure
      @BuildYourOwnAdventure  Před 3 lety

      Our last trip was 180 miles I had about 5 miles on that tank before we left and the gas light was on when we got to the campground. The gauge said we had 28 miles left till empty. You’re looking at less that 200 miles per fill up if your getting decent mileage. We usually stopped every 150 miles to be safe.
