The XD is a very under rated truck. Great value for the money. I've had the 5.6 and currently own the 5.0 diesel. Both have been great trucks. A lot of people give them crap because 2500s are more capable but the XD is not a 2500. They handle weight at their max capacity way better than a half ton at their max capacity.

Thank you Rodney for letting JB use your truck!!
I have a 1st Gen Titan and it’s been a great truck. It’s a 2013 with 2.94 YES 2.94 gears. Even with its 5 speed auto it’s still very strong. The trans is geared accordingly so the 2.94 works well. The first Gen Titan did have an optional 3.36 ratio.
Different truck and load but I towed my Mustang on an open car hauler from GA to Florida. 1000 mile round trip. 6000+ lbs. My truck got 13 MPG hand calculated. I used cruise control. 70 mph and I locked out 5th gear which puts RPM’s right around 2,000. I was very happy with that.
My 1st Gen 5.6 makes its peak torque at 3400 rpm. That’s 600 rpm sooner than the current 5.6 but the 9 speed more than makes up for it.
JB you said you were going to stop reviews but you keep pumping them out. I hope you stay with it man!

Just finished a 5300 mile round trip towing a 7k 8.5x20 cargo trailer from WA to east TN with my 2020 XD SV gasser. Loaded on way out probably mid 6K in weight, unloaded on way back around 3.2k. Fuel mileage averaged daily between 7.5 up to 10.3 mpg. Lots of sustained headwinds, crosswinds, steep grade mountain passes both ways (took the more northern route on way out, more souther route in the way back). Didn’t miss a beat and so much better stability than my 2013 Titan SV.

I was originally only considering the standard Titan, but my biggest gripe about most 1/2 tons are the low payload and short bed for crew cabs. On paper someone will try to say there are half tons with more payload capacity - but not in the same configuration. direct comparison with a crew cab and 6.5’ bed 4x4 you get the increased payload and 11k lbs towing. For someone who loads up the bed with a decked box and a camper shell and uses the truck for towing, hunting in the back country, hauling kids and camping gear the XD fits the bill. Still can get the pro4x with rear locker and all the goods.

I have a 2018 regular Titan SV (non XD) with tow package. I tow occasionally anywhere from 3,000 to 7,000# rock solid...no problem. I installed timbren ses suspension enhancement. 6,000# progressive rubber springs on each side that when you load the truck down the springs sit down on the axle plates. I also put E rated 10 ply LT tires all around. Truck is solid as a rock when towing with that same V8 motor. Also, when not towing I have the great 1/2 ton suspension ride. Best of both worlds for me. That being said I would also love an XD with extra weight and capacity. Awesome trucks ! As long as you don't need a true HD truck and towing loads over 10,000# etc.... 1/2 ton just fits my specific needs. Also, recommend the 12,000# shocker impact hitch with sway bar mounts that can be used with Curt or Reese heavy duty sway arms. Unbelievable!!
You don't know the trailers back there. It's like the hitch has its own suspension and separates and smooths out the ride and bumps between the truck and trailer. I just couldn't be happier with my crew cab Titan and paying $32,000 for a brand new 4x4 loaded with tow package Titan works great for me . Also, 1 last note....I see videos of people hauling trailers up hills or mountains not utilizing manual shifting ??? Don't do it!!
Lock out the auto downshifting and screaming RPM's for God sake! Just manually shift up and down as needed keeping RPM's 2,500 to 3,000 area.
So much easier on your transmission and truck and a lot less annoying. I lock out my 7 speed tranny to no higher than 5th gear and down shift to 3rd or 4th as needed in the hills. Works awesome!

Nice review. Pretty cool doing this with a viewer.
As for the truck, I still kinda think it’s an answer to a question that no one asked. This is just my opinion so don’t kill me, but it doesn’t do anything as well as a 3/4 ton gas truck would have done and you’re still kinda limited to what size trailer you can tow just like a regular 1500. Any of the American trucks with a gas engine would have weighed 7,000 pounds or more and would have bigger fuel tanks, bigger brakes, bigger 8 lug axles and get the same or better fuel mileage.
Just my opinion and to each their own but if a 1500 truck ain’t cutting it for your towing needs I think you may as well get a real 2500 and then not be nearly as limited on trailer options.

These comments come in so fast, I don’t see them all lol. In Lehman terms, Rear Axle Ratios provide better acceleration (numerically higher) or increase mpg (numerically lower). The most common ratios in trucks are 3.73 or 4.10. If you have a truck on a lift, you can spin the tire 1 full turn and count how many times the drive shaft turn which would look like: 4.10:1 or 3.73:1
