Fitzy: fucking saves a guy.
YMH title guy: Tom almost DROWNED! 😄
Greg Fitzsimmons= Unlikely Hero + Hilarious Comedian
"The ocean is a strong bitch." -Ol' Fitzy
Also possibly a serial killer lol
YMH: "Tom almost drowned!"
Tom: "When I came up I was breathing hard..."
I was starting to panic just listening to this
That dude laughing in the background gets me every fucking time 🔥
lol, I live in Hawaii, love these stories. there's a beach on Oahu with a current so bad it's called "The Molokai Express" - because if you get caught in it, it will bring you to the neighboring island of Molokai. another beach, the waves crash so hard there is an ambulance on site at all times. and the lifeguards will straight up tell some tourists "you can't go in the water"
Sandy Beach comes to mind
I take the signs at their word. If the sign indicates my amateur ass shouldn’t go near the water, I do not go near the water. I’m always amazed at some folks over estimation of their skill level.
@@squid_fish exactly 🤙
i live in hawaii too and i knew a guy who died picking opihi and a fighter athlete guy who died swimming by cliffs...the ocean dont fck around
@@politerudeboi6898 ehh sorry to hear that bruddah. Had one friend die at Barber's, a family beach. nothing major but just too much for him. waves no joke
We get real relaxed in the water and we need to avoid that.
Easy to forget how little it takes for the ocean to kill us. Respect her. Well done to Greg. Absolutely amazing and truly a heroic act.
This same shit happened to my wife and I in Cancun, Mexico. It was deceptive because we spent all week going into the waves with no problem, and the water is very shallow, you can be out a long ways from shore and still be in like shoulder height water. But our last evening there we went out and the waves were kicking our asses, no matter how we tried to attack the wave (diving into them, diving out of them, standing still) it would blast us like being hit by a truck into a washing machine, it would powercycle the shit out of us every time. And these waves are maybe 10 seconds apart or so. Eventually we realized every time a wave hit us, we got our bearings, and figured out where we were - We were a little further from shore each time. So we had to give it 100% with the seconds we had in between waves to try and make it as far forward toward shore as possible, because the next wave was going to wipe out most of our progress and drag us back out. Scary shit, by the time we got back to safety we were both exhausted.
“And I get sucked back into the wave” has me dying
So I failed the written part of the test. And then I failed the physical part as well. 😆
“Kept stroking.”
Lol
Have you ever watched Bondi rescue. I live in Australia and the beaches here yes beautiful but also dangerous. Most public beaches are an inlet or a cove so when the weather and currents start ripping they rip hard.
A few times I've had to save a tourist who was sold this beautiful calm beaches of Australia and they never ever show them a safety video about rip currents and how dangerous they can be.
Bondi beach is notorious for people dying from drowning. They can get upto 30k people at one time on the beach. The council has actually put in place lifeguards who are specially trained for hard conditions there.
They have a Rip called backpackers rip. Bascially everyday a tourist gets stuck and has to be saved.
The ocean is a mean beast and you have to respect it. The cove that Bondi is in creates a whirlpool somedays just past the breakers. It just sucks out the water so hard you could be an Olympic level swimmer and you'd be fucked.
Stay safe out there people, little rule of thumb if.you don't know the beach don't go further out then about upto your knees. Ask the lifeguards where is safe to swim if there is no flags set up. Always and I mean always swim between the flags.
6:00 Woah woah Greg, DONT swim out to sea in a rip current. Swim PARALLEL to the shore until you get out of it. DO NOT SWIM OUT, SWIM PARALLEL. Sorry, I live on a beach and have gotten stuck in currents myself, and just don’t want anyone to drown over that comment he said. The more you swim out, even if you can manage to get out of the current you might end up being too exhausted to make it back to shore from that far.
Greg's shirt is incredible 🤌🏻
Rip currents are terrifying. Got caught in one in Santa Monica. I've been back in the ocean many times since, just cant bring myself to do it in Santa Monica.
I was vacationing in Hawaii once and a child about the age of eight or nine was getting swept away by a current. He had floatation devices on his biceps. I am a certified scuba diver, not a lifeguard. It took me a while before realizing he needed help, and that I should take Initiative. I felt pretty dumb for just standing there not taking action sooner. But the parents and his older sister were looking for him and they were thankful I retrieved him.
Probably should have just let the little bastard drowned you could have taught everybody a lesson
Damn Tom, the views are lacking. Love the show bud!
I’ve been out in ponce inlet when the pressure is up from tropical systems and there was a day that I got tombstoned
(pulled down to the extent the top of the board was poking out of the top of the wave hence tombstone) and was held for a good 20 seconds before the pressure let up and I could swim upwards
I got out and went home, haven’t been back in that deep since
I'm so thankful that my dad took me and my siblings to Martha's Vineyard every summer to teach us to swim in big rough waves in the ocean.
Ok Richie Rich.
@@ghostpiratelechuck2259 Sorry that my dad went 500k into debt the year I was born to start a construction company that became wildly successful because he worked 80 hour weeks.
@@Arthur-ek7nd You should be Baron Von Bottomtooth the IV
@@ghostpiratelechuck2259 I actually am a IV lol
You don't swim out with the rip current, it could take you very far out. Instead swim perpendicular to it so you get out of it, then swim in.
me and my buddies used to swim out passed the piers. I've gotten caught in rip current and undertow pulling me out to sea the key is don't panic swim with the flow to the side. learning to float on your back if needed is so important.
on another note there's a big difference between pacfic waves and atlantic waves due to the shelf distances from the beaches
Seriously back floating will save your ass big time. You can essentially float for hours even when your dead tired.
@@Sillyhands1 yep first thing I always make sure to train anyone how to do if they don't.
@@Sillyhands1 I am not a good swimmer but I float like a motherfucker, I can do it forever.
This is the most insane video title after the story Greg told wtf..
Sounds like Tom was caught in a rip current.
You have to swim parallel to the beach until you get out of them.
We would watch tourists struggle on rafts and boogie boards all the time.
I think people who aren’t familiar with the ocean severely underestimate it. Even people used to it can get overconfident or complacent and end up in trouble though.
yes, they said exactly that in the video not even 10 seconds after he finished his story.
@@corrosion83 Yes. I repeated what they said and added my personal experience in watching people struggle over decades.
I’m not sure why it bothered you enough to comment.
Yep, same here on the Cape beaches and down in Florida...people think it's just a big Wave Pool.
They also said to swim with the current all the way out to the ocean so I think it’s good to reiterate the right info here
my buddy and i almost drowned as kids at summer camp...the current took us way out and we didn't even realize it...
Fitzsimmons goes to Joe Rogan's hairdresser. Pass it on!
That life-guard is related to christinE, with her stolen valor vibes..
I remember saving my little sis in a pool. Some guy pushed her in the deep end at 5 year's old. I was 9, she climbed on my head and I walked on the bottom of pool with her on my head untill we got to shallow end, almost drowned. I worked year's on the ocean but never came close to drowning then in that pool. Did almost have our Vessel sink 100 miles out in a storm, that was scary also.
If being pulled out in a rip, swim across the beach - parallel to the beach - not out to sea as Greg said.
Sound advice as well 😎😎
Love two bears when Bart's away
Yeah, Segura is much funnier without those two boat anchors weighing him down.
Australian here, swim horizontally if caught in a rip!
I almost drowned twice. The one time was because I went it to help some kids who got caught in a current. Luckily, I used to be a swimmer, but it was still scary AF.
Spring break in Puerto vallarta 12 yrs old La Jolla De Mismaloya I was afraid of the ocean (creatures) went waist deep got racked by a wave almost died and not a person parents included realized haha literally about 10mins of "almost there" just to get swept back out luckily got pushed to a rocky side
All the laughter at people hurting is definitely gonna bite you in the ass, Tom 😂!
I thought it was bald Christina on the preview 😅
Everyone should learn to bodysurf and get tumbled and thrashed in 8 foot waves. Really teaches you how to dive under waves and stay calm when getting slammed into the ocean floor underwater.
No swim parallel to beach until you are out of rip tide
Has no one explained to Tom, if you are stuck in the undertow don't keep trying to go towards the beach, go to the left or the right parallel to the beach.
I was stroking like crazy listening to this
ok 🤤👌
both of your hips are too low in the water, don't even need to see you swim. Go to a pool and put one of those floating things between your legs and try to swim slow on your arms, so your body gets used to the higher position on the water. Add legs with a gentle kick, keep increasing strength without having your hips drop down. When you try it in the sea, you have to keep your elbows up high. Decrease your drag guys :)
This is why I stick to lakes and smaller fresh water bodies. One, no sharks. Two, you can fish from the shore and catch just about as much as with a boat. Three, less likely to die from the water itself.
We get it Tim you know how to swim
Swim out in a rip current instead of directly left or right? Idk bout that
Damn, Tom looks good.
If you get caught in a rip current, just swim parallel to the shore to get out of it then swim in
Damn, almost got him.
Nadav got the title on this one wayyy wrong lol
Don't swim out.. just swim parallel to the beach to get out of the rip current. If you're still being pulled when you try to go back in just keep swimming to the right or left until you're out of it. 👍Don't die Tom. 🌊
Happened to me at boynton inlet in west palm. One of the scariest moments. Was 2 football field out by the rip current. Was praying a shark would eat me compared to drowning. Full panic.
Swim Side ways, out of the current. Cheers. Don't go in the ocean if you don't know how to actually swim. Your friendly lifeguard.
Don't they teach you guys in the US to swim sideways to the rip? We get taught that as kids in Australia
Who swims at Venice?
how did you meet Moby
You dont let the rip current take you out. You're supposed to swim parallel to the beach to get out of the current. Bad advice.
You need to stop letting Nadav make the titles of the videos.
Someone already mentioned it but yeah if that ever happens to any of you. Don't swim out like he casually said. Swim parallel.
6:08 No! From an Aussie that did ironman. You swim sideways through a rip!!!
Tom looks healthy
and then he ate the lifeguard true story
Riptide
let it take you out then swim to a right/left diagnol towards the beach.
tom thinks this didn't happen
Yay
Not yay that Tom almost drowned, yay that there’s a new clip. Just to be clear.
porque no los dos
swim to the side, not out
NO NO NO!!
DO NOT LET THE RIP TAKE YOU OUT, THEN SWIM BACK IN.
SWIM SIDEWAYS, OUT OF THE RIP!
No wonder we have to keep saving yanks and Asians from the water, they're taught this crap.
2:56 of course it was a black guy lmao. We're notoriously bad at swimming, even worse in the ocean.
Lol we know bro
Swim parallel to the beach, not out.
Greg Fitzsimmons almost drowned! ... Not Tom Segura!?
Taking away credit from Greg; like the lifeguard that day ... SMH 😔
Tom is starting to show a little fitness. Weird.
Huh, guess they can't swim. 💁♂️
Does Greg have cancer?
Second xD
Tom wearing his $400 Burberry tshirt. You derseve man
Who goes into the water in Venice? Gross
first
Of course its a black guy.
Humans think the beach is cute and all but don't fully fathom the power of the ocean. If you've ever seen it angry, you know not to fuck around
Never fight the current when it's that strong.Go along the beach left or right. Then you can swim in np.
